I was recently looking at a copy of the new US history book 'War and the Republic'1 when I noticed that an increasing propensity of the information in the history book is based; not on the facts of history, but only the security leaks, and public releases of information by the State.

That got me thinking. What about the histories of our favourite campaign worlds? What do the people know as to the history of their worlds up to the present time? What level of history is little more than the prophaganda spun by the Royal spin doctors? What history is the 'leaked' truth?

so you mean all that 'history' is based on either propoganda or misinformation being disseminated to the masses on purpose. Well, thats what all history is anyway, so I guess its nothing new. This is easily done in anyone's campaign worlds because its the status quo.

you should know the drill, the aristocracy downplay their own shortcomings, even if they are mass murderers, until they shine like pinnacles of goodness, while maligning their enemies until the general peasant population fears them so much, that they consider the "enemy" demons who would eat your soul and desecrate your family, body, remains, etc etc.

Dang New, and I thought I was a cynic....

As for the original topic, I'm doing something kinda like this in my campaign. I'm working up an interesting religious play, with the different temples and churchs going at it and my players and thier employer caught in the middle trying to keep a lid on it all.

Since we're just barely starting, and each player follows a different god, I'm giving small (1/2 page max) breifing sheets outlining "what you know about x" when it comes to their god and/or religious organization, history of the world, and so forth.

From there it's up to the players what they share with each other and how they interperate the info and what that does to the group.
