However, this leads lots of room for interpretation and crafting by hose of us inclined to do so. What holidays have you, as a PC or a DM come up with? I came up with this one for my rogue/Sehanine: This holiday takes place on the last new moon of the autumn. On this day, the goddess Sehanine is said to come down from her pale throne to take on a lover. It a festival for lovers, in the vein of Valentine's Day and Halloween. Anyone who has a significant other usually trade tokens (usually ribbons) that they wear outwardly so that they can recognize each other and not be tricked by the Moon Goddess' tendency to shapeshift to get her way. They are also encouraged to stay indoors once night falls. Single people on the other hand go out corousing till sunrise, in the hopes that they might happen upon the Moon Goddess in disguise or get lucky with one of the other single people out on the streets. Many taverns and inns host dances and it is customary to greet with a kiss on the cheek and rude to deny a kiss to anyone who asks of it; those who turn down kisses may be targeted by the goddess by her tricks The traditional food is baked onions or round pastries One of the traditions of the Lover's Moon is the carving of a white onion with the name of your intended lover. The white onion symbolizes the moon, the pungent smell draws the attention of the goddess and the tears shed from carving the vegetable are meant to draw her sympathy. The onion is meant to be left out in front of one's house (before sunrise). If your intended does in fact make it into your home that night, it is said a dish made with the carved onion will bind your lover to you. |
