| #1srkingdavyAug 15, 2008 17:19:25 | one of my players seems dead-set on being a tinkerer type who can construct traps, springboards, minor explosives etc. the beta Artificer class is the closest thing out at the moment, but has anyone tried introducing crafting rules to 4th edition, especially explosives? thanks in advance~ |

| #4srkingdavyAug 15, 2008 19:19:17 | Alchemy looks good. What about crafting traps? |
| #5theninjadAug 15, 2008 19:22:56 | I know I saw someone doing a thread about that somewhere on the WotC forums. I'd suggest you look for it. Just don't use the search feature, it tends not to give you results. If I come across that thread again, I will post a link here. |
| #6nerdicusAug 15, 2008 21:39:27 | the easiest way to do this would be to reflavor the wizard or the warlock so that spells and what not are now traps, bombs, potions and what have you. Make everything stay the same crunch wise just give it a reflavoring. That's how I would handle it. |
| #7snarky_monkeyAug 16, 2008 1:28:04 | I actually think setting traps should be covered in rituals, seems appropriate. |
| #8theninjadAug 16, 2008 14:48:40 | If you are staying with the minimalist, simple approach to the system, a reflavoring would probably work out nicely. Spells could be made bombs and the like while rituals could be more along the line of traps. Still, that would cause rituals that do damage and that doesn't sit well with me. |
| #9snarky_monkeyAug 17, 2008 2:05:47 | Still, that would cause rituals that do damage and that doesn't sit well with me. Not exactly. You would use rituals as you would for magic item creation. Your creating the trap just like you would a +1 sword or what have you. The ritual isn't doing the damage, the trap is. ![]() |
