Homebrew Messing Around (Stone Trolls, Shifters, and Changelings)

Hello folks...I'm gearing up for a campaign that is loosely based on the Shannara world setting. Stone trolls are much like rock trolls, shifters are basically mutated humans from tribes gone practically feral since the great disaster... and changelings are magically altered humans created by tieflings, used as living weapons against the elves. (assassins, spies etc... the elves did much the same with gnomes, but they're already stat'd out).

The shifters are right out of the back of the MM (with the feat theme borrowed from Eberron, and of course, changelings are borrowed right out of Eberron)

Here's just the basic, 1st draft for the races and some feats that I've come up with:

Changeling

These creatures were once upon a time humans. However, the tieflings stole them away and magically altered them. This new caste of servitors, the changelings, served the tieflings in their war on the elves. They make perfect spies and assassins, and their ability to disguise themselves is legendary... few can pierce their magical veil.

Doppelgangers are changelings now I believe. If you need a seperate race go for it. But I'm sure it will be made clear in the eberron campaign setting books.

As for the trolls: I like them. One question... Is canny warrior a feat bonus to your attack rating? Or just extra?

Canny Warrior is just supposed to be an unnamed bonus, much like the War Forged Tactics. The Trolls are a very war like/militaristic race...so it makes sense to me that they get something similar.

I'll probably use changelings to fill in as a character race until I see the Eberron 4e.

However, I did mean to have the +2 damage from Stone Troll Warrior be a feat bonus... edited to be correct now.

Have you read the Doppelganger MM entry? At the end of the MM they have playable stats for a doppelganger. And I'd wager those stats will be expanded upon at some point.

Personally I've just renamed Doppelgangers to Changelings and left it at that.

Hmmm... I almost went with your suggestion, but I've got a very cool idea now...thanks for pointing it out!

I'm going to use the DD as an ancient fey creature that the tieflings styled their "lesser" creations off of. I don't want them to be able to take the form of specific individuals, nor be able to always be in a shapechanged form.

Now, that still allows me to bring in the true DD character as a nasty surpise! huzzah!

As far as expanding the stats and new feats, I may end up blending the two later on if it looks like a better move, or adjusting the changeling to be a little closer to the DD concept. Who knows... but I'm glad you pointed it out.

I have no clue what I did...

But you're welcome if its helped you.

BTW: Note that Beast Pack Tactics is going to be only a +1 damage bonus in situational times (you can get weapon focus and get an unconditional Attack bonus with the same scale)

steadfast Warrior should be a Defender feat and not racial. Or maybe a Martial feat... Just seems like something other races would get too. (Namely Dwarves and Bugbears...)

Noted... Tactics changed to an unnamed bonus to attack and damage to make it more useful. Steadfast Warrior changed to make it a general feat...not sure how to make it a pure Defender feat while making the requirements make sense though. May have to bite the bullet and just not have any pre-req's... but it might get bumped to a Paragon level... don't really know.

Well warrior now won't stack with armor spec. However that isn't a really big problem.

True, but there are a few other feats (backt ot he wall) with the same deal... it doesn't stack since it's a feat bonus etc. Seems balanced to me... I guess if it were to stack, I'd have to make it paragon.
