I devised a campaign for my friends and its an oriental style campaign.  When I was thinking of the whole samurai thing i thought that it shouldn't be a class because to me it seems to be more of a title.  So multiclass feat.  The feat is called Bushido and it gives proficiency in bastard sword and once per encounter Combat Superiority like the fighters.  Prerequisite any martial class.  It would give access to Shogun and Ronin paragon paths (still working on those).  I'm wondering if this is a good idea because I know somebody in my group is going to ask about them.

What would the gain be for a fighter who wants to be a samarai? It should offer them more than just an entry feat to a PP.

And that is why I asked this question thank you bone naga i never would have thought of that.  Thought about it and instead of the opportunity being a basic attack for a fighter the ability to use an at-will power for the opportunity attack.

Do you feel it's necessary to create specific mechanics for a samurai? The default fighter, paladin, warlord, and several other classes can all make a perfectly viable samurai from a theme standpoint.

A more subtle approach would be to focus on non-power aspects, in particular feats that offer a couple of connected perks that address the theme. (Quick Draw serves that purpose as written, but other feats that combine appropriate effects in a similar fashion would also work.)

I've considered this stuff (though no player has used it yet):
Weapon Mastery Feats

"Katana" Mastery

Iaijutsu Training [Multiclass Iajutsu Mastery]
Prerequisites: Str 13, any martial class
Benefit: You gain proficiency with the bastard sword.  Once per encounter, when you draw a bastard sword you gain a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with that weapon until the end of your turn.

Iaijutsu Novice [Multiclass]
Prerequisites: Iaijutsu Training, 4th level
Benefit: You can swap one 3rd-level or higher encounter power you know for the Iaijutsu Strike attack power.

    Iaijutsu Strike            Feat Power
In one fluid motion you draw your blade and strike your foes, exploiting their surprise.
    Encounter * Martial, Weapon
    Standard Action    Close burst 1
Special: You must draw a bastard sword as part of this attack.
    Target: Each enemy in burst.
    Attack: Strength vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage.  If you have combat advantage against the target, the attack deals extra damage equal to your Dexterity modifier.
At 11th level, increase to 2[W] damage.
At 21st level, increase to 3[W] damage.

Iaijutsu Expert [Multiclass]
Prerequisites: Iaijutsu Training, 8th level
Benefit: You can swap one 6th-level or higher utility power you know for the Intimidating Blade utility power.

    Intimidating Blade            Feat Power
The glint of your blade and the fire in your eyes cut a swath of fear through your foes.
Daily * Fear, Martial, Stance, Weapon
    Free Action        Personal
Trigger: You draw a bastard sword.
Effect: Until the stance ends, adjacent unmarked enemies take a -2 penalty on attacks against you, and you can make the following attack.
        Immediate Reaction    Close burst 1
Trigger: An adjacent unmarked enemy misses you with an attack.
Target: The triggering enemy in burst.
Hit: You push the target a number of squares equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1).

Iaijutsu Specialist [Multiclass]
Prerequisites: Iaijutsu Training, 10th level
Benefit: You can swap one 9th-level or higher daily power you know for the splitting draw attack power.

    Splitting Draw            Feat Power
You draw your blade in an upward arc that, if it slays your foe, slices him in two and showers the battlefield in his blood.
    Daily * Fear, Martial, Weapon
    Free Action        Melee weapon
Special: You must draw a bastard sword as part of this attack.
    Target: One Creature.
    Attack: Strength vs. AC
Hit: 2[W] + Strength modifier damage.  If you have combat advantage against the target, the attack deals 4[W] + Strength modifier damage instead.
At 15th level, increase to 3[W] damage, or 5[W] damage with combat advantage.
At 25th level, increase to 5[W] damage, or 6[W] damage with combat advantage.
    Miss: Half damage.
Effect: If you kill the target using this attack, it is split in two and the pieces fall in its square.  Make a secondary attack.
        Free Action        Close burst 10
        Target: Each enemy in burst.
Hit: You push the target a number of squares equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1).

Actually, those feats seem quite viable for what you're doing. The powers work and appear to fit the theme. Just two things:

1. The effect in Splitting Draw has no mechanics behind it, so it shouldn't be there. If there was an actual effect (say, a -2 penalty to attack rolls or AC or somesuch), that'd work, but flavor doesn't go into mechanical entries. You already took care of the flavor beforehand, anyway, with the and the power's name and description of what it does.

2. The forced movement in Intimidating Blade and Splitting Draw should be keyed to Wisdom. Charisma is not a key stat for a fighter, and Wisdom is at least secondary to most defender classes, anyway, so Wisdom would be a better choice.

did you know ninjas used shorted swors so they would be better in iaijustu? (you can draw your sword much quicker if the blade is shorter ...)
