I'm a reasonably new DM and stumbled across something I thought was interesting...

My friend is currently trying to write a fantasy novel about a character passing away in this world and joining another world in a "religious war" between a bumbling, bug-eyed, stoner god (based 'loosely' on Bill Bailey) and a mean looking, kickass satan.

Let all the characters pick a faction (of good or evil) and be generals and control battalions and fight against each other but still have a DM to guide them along a storyline path. I know it sounds more in the realms of Warhammer but is there any possible way to create a set platoon of 20 men with a stat block for each so they could fight it out? The aim of the game would be to conquer certain areas on a map for a territory style capture game but include some real tactics like hills and forests giving people combat advantage.

Obviously their generals or special characters would still be from the D+D players handbook and an army of each faction would consist of humans or angels and tieflings (cos they look a bit hellish) or devils/demons???

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated cos I really wanna get this thing up and running but am stuck where to start off.

Unfortunately, I can't offer any advice, but it does sound possible from what I know.

It sounds quite intriguing as well (Bill Bailey, lol).

preferably 4e but one of the guys has 3.5 books too.
And yeh we're all massive fans of Bill Bailey and his mumbling...

D&D Minis battle with fully stated charaters.

PvP via teams might be balanced...
