I am hitting a writers block for more detail.

This is the intial information, more will come but I am needing more help.

Residuum was to be our savior, the element of the gods that we could use to build a peaceful society and to create a Social Utopia where citizens would never need anything again. In the beginning it was blessing, Residuum was used to stimulate research into technology and magical theory. It allowed low cost energy to all locations, it helped the farmers produce an abundant of food for consumption, and it allowed the creation of advanced technologies to pursue dangerous expeditions for mining and gathering of precious items. For the next 2000 years the land prospered and the governments were at peace. For the next 50 years the Trading Guilds slowly started to wrestle power and control from the Governments by withholding Residuum shipments.

In the Year 2051 the first conflict broke out as the trade guilds realizing more profit would be made with fewer guilds. The first salvo of violence was cause by the Guild Kartalon raiding the Guild Giovann refinery and storage facility in the city of Carpasi.
The attack was swift and violent, there was no member of Guild Giovann left breathing as Guild Kartalon hauled away wagons full of Residuum.

Guild Giovann countered the assault on a pair of Guild Kartalon mines. Guild Giovann took prisoners and held them in the depths of the mines, When the Kinghts of Kartalon sprung into action and lead a strike to free the captives Guild Giovann collapsed the tunnels on them killing thousands of people.

From there the blood shed became free flowing. Guilds would make and break truce’s as quickly as the changing of tides. Looking for the most advantageous opportunities to betray for wealth and power, nothing was sacred in the Guild Wars. During the 500 year Guild Wars entire empires were reduced to rubble for siding with the wrong guilds. The smaller guilds were either totally decimated or submitted to the tyrannical ruling of the larger guilds. When the smoke settled, all remained were 15 guilds that had more power then any nation could ever dream about.

Two years after the unsteady cease fire from the guilds and with a chance for rebuilding the Horrors came. It was the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month when the earth shuddered and moaned, darkness filled the sky, and the moon slowly covered the sun. The earth cracked and spewed out the darkness hidden in its depths as screams filled the air. The moon receded from the sun revealing two smaller suns in its wake. Nothing was sacred as the demons devoured everything in their paths. The guilds joined forces and took up arms defending their properties and their citizens. They used the eldritch machines that were used against each other to fight the demons. The war with the demons lasted 11 years, ending as quickly as it started, the demons retreated and we declared an uneasy victory, confused why it had ended and they had fled when they were winning. During the Demon Wars 4 more guilds were destroyed. This war caused the surviving guilds to lose a lot of resources and capitols.

During the rebuilding process the guilds decided to work together, to help promote unity and peace, the struggling kingdoms decided to accept their offer on conditions and policies limiting their political power.

It’s been 20 years since the rebuilding has started, Empires are rebuilding and growing, citizens are working again, and the guilds are slowly rebuilding their might in trade and resources. One thing that has caused quite a stir recently has been the reports that locations of Residuum Veins before the Demon Wars are no longer around. These reports seem to be accurate as the price of Residuum has quickly sky rocketed and been removed from the normal markets.

Key Take Away Facts:
11 Guilds, while they have decreased in power currently, their ambitions are to regain their holdings.

The world has been decimated, by internal fighting and by a demon invasion.

Residuum is important but appears to have disappeared.

The world is rebuilding itself, it has some unique items and Eldritch Machines, but it also has ruins and some area back into the dark ages.

In a world where everyone had everything... what did/do trade guilds(TG) want?

Maybe you should figure out what the TGs would want? Or what weren't they getting that they felt they should have?

What are the player characters supposed to do that has anything to do with this EPIC-sized background? Are they going to be the sons/daughters of Kings and TG masters?
