The Lady of the Autumn Veil is not known for her kindness nor her patience. But perhaps you should be more afraid of her servant, who stands before you.” Prerequisite: Warlock class, fey pact You have wandered into the realm of Sylrahd and somehow curried her favor. Perhaps, she is the Archfey with whom you first forged your pact or perhaps it was not until years later that you came to the attention of her Autumn Court. However you managed to garner her attentions, you have spied deeply into the secrets of her maddened realm and found a source of strength in those hidden mires, which stretch far into often untouched expanses of the feywild. Some think you mad, while others think you a genius. But those who have not shared your visions of Ancient Autumn can never truly appreciate the lore you have uncovered nor the power you have cultivated. When others stare into your eyes, they share some brief insight into the truth behind the decay and defamation that lies in wait beyond the veil. Unfortunately for them, it may be the last thing they ever see. SCION OF SYLRAHD PATH FEATURES Bitter Harvest (11th Level): When you spend an action point to take an extra action, you may also use your eyebite power as a free action. Eyes of Autumn (11th Level): Your eyebite power's damage increases by 1d6 for a total of 2d6 + Charisma modifier at 11th level and 3d6 + Charisma modifier at 21st level. Autumn Mist (16th Level): Once per turn, when you leave a square by teleporting, you may become invisible to all enemies within Intelligence modifier squares of that space, until the start of your next turn. SCION OF SYLRAHD POWERS Sylrahd's Sight Attack 11 Encounter * Arcane, Charm, Psychic Free action Varies Trigger: You hit a creature with your eyebite at-will power. Effect: The attack deals maximum damage. Autumn Veil Utility 12 Encounter * Arcane, Charm Immediate Reaction Personal Trigger: An enemy cursed by you hits you with an attack Effect: You become invisible to that enemy until the end of the encounter. Curse of the Mad Queen Attack 20 Daily * Arcane, Charm, Implement, Psychic Standard action Ranged 10 Target: One creature Attack: Charisma vs. Will Hit: 5d6 + Charisma modifier psychic damage Effect: The target is afflicted by maddening visions of the feywild (save ends). Instead of explicitly stating critical hit, it instead simply does maximum damage, which means the implement's critical hit bonus will not come into play. At early paragon levels it doesn't look to be as big of a difference when compared with something like Learned Boost, but it scales higher and more quickly than Learned Boost when you take the implement bonus into consideration. With the new wording it keeps it from scaling as sharply. This actually puts Sylrahd's Sight beneath Learned Boost in terms of damage output, but keeps it somewhat higher than if you were actually to choose to use Learned Boost with eyebite. If you already critically hit or rolled maximum damage with your eyebite then there's no reason to use Sylrahd's Sight. If you didn't then you still have the option to maximize the damage roll. Of course, no one with Learned Boost would ever use it with eyebite. But this keeps it appropriate to the theme of the PP, without overshadowing Learned Boost. For comparison: Sylrahd's Sight makes eyebite deal 12 damage before taking bonuses into account. Learned Boost, with a normal (1d6) eyebite, would deal 10.5 damage on average. Learned Boost, if applied to Eldritch Blast, would deal 16.5 damage on average. At epic levels, Sylrahd's Sight deals 18 damage before taking bonuses into account. At epic levels, Learned Boost would make a normal eyebite deal 14 damage on average. At epic levels, Learned Boost would make Eldritch Blast deal an average of 22 damage. So, Sylrahd's Sight is more potent in regards to eyebite (due in large part to Eyes of Autumn). But it doesn't outmatch Learned Boost. It actually keeps the bonus somewhere in between what Learned Boost would deal with a more damaging at-will and what Learned Boost would deal with a baseline eyebite. |

This really would not matter at early levels of the game, where one has an enhancement bonus of 1-2 or three, but after that point, the additional damage does become comparable to using the attack all over again. Just throught I would point it out. I am not even sure that it is overpowered. Just an interesting fact. |

This really would not matter at early levels of the game, where one has an enhancement bonus of 1-2 or three, but after that point, the additional damage does become comparable to using the attack all over again. As written the attack deals maximum damage. That's not intended to do anything about the implement's critical bonus. Although, I suppose I could just remove the implement keyword from the power. Implement is still listed on the eyebite power, so bonuses would still apply via eyebite (unless there has been some ruling by WotC that states otherwise). Does that seem like it would solve the problem? The whole idea is to eliminate the critical bonus on an imeplement from being an issue. If I remove implement from Sylrahd's Sight, wouldn't that allow the implement to function normally on the eyebite power, but not maximize the damage if it does happen to be a critical hit via Sylrahd's Sight? That should make it pointless to use Sylrahd's Sight with an already critical eyebite, since you'll be maximizing the damage of the base dice on eyebite, which have already been maximized by the critical hit. At least, that's what I'm going for anyway. |
