Alright, so here's a couple fun familiars I cooked up, haven't really had a chance to use any of them in a game yet, though I am going to see about using the Planar Sprite in a current game.  So feel free to use them and let me know how they work out.

Angel & Demon
A little humanoid angel and demon reside merrily on your shoulders, ready to give advice...or criticism at a moment’s notice.
Speed 3, fly 6 (hover)
Constant Benefits
You gain a +2 benefit to Insight checks
You gain a +2 benefit to Bluff checks
Active Benefits
Angelic Aid(Angel only): When using an area or burst attack you can negate the square of one ally adjacent to your angel familiar.
Demonic Reach(Demon only): When using an area or burst attack you can also make the attack against one enemy adjacent to your familiar.
One or the Other: When in active mode, you can only choose to have either the angel or demon active. You can switch which one is active with a minor action.

Quirks
At will, though generally when fighting, they can disappear in spectacular fashion. The angel will dissolve into drops of golden rain, while the demon looks like it’s painfully dissolving into wisps of black smoke. They’ll appear generally on your shoulder a couple seconds later.

The angel & demon chatter almost constantly, usually about nothing in particular but generally they make comments on your actions.

The two love to argue over the littlest things, and often will fight on your shoulders

Storm Cloud
A small storm cloud that likes to hover above your head, but watch out for the rain and lightning!
Fly 6 (hover)
Constant Benefits
You gain a +2 bonus to thunder and lightning damage
You gain a +2 bonus to Endurance checks made against dehydration and hunger.
Active Benefits
Zap Ya!: Once per encounter, when an enemy adjacent to your storm cloud familiar misses an attack the enemy takes 1d6 lightning damage.
1d8 at 11th level
1d10 at 21st level
Rollin Thunder: Once per encounter the storm cloud causes a peel of thunder to echo around an adjacent enemy causing them to take a -1 to the enemy’s next attack roll.  Increase to -2 at 21st level

Quirks
The cloud zaps people with harmless bolts of lightning as a show of affection...and because it thinks it’s funny.

It pours rain when it feels sad, or ignored. Usually right over your head, which is it’s favorite spot to be.

Platypus
A little, awkward mammal with a bill that’s a master in the water.
Senses blindsight 3
Speed 5, swim 7
Constant Benefits
You gain a +2 to Nature checks
You gain +2 to saving throws against poison effects.
Active Benefits
Nasty Sting: Once per encounter on a successful attack you channel the inherent poison from the platypus into a single target of the attack. The target becomes stunned(save ends), and takes ongoing 5 poison damage(save ends). Ongoing poison damage increases to 10 at 21st level.

Quirks
It likes to make a sound like the combination of a quack and growl at random, or when he has the chance to surprise someone.

It will grab random little objects and begin to juggle them.

The Platypus itself is a quirk, I mean a mammal with a bill and webbed feet? Come on!

Portal Sprite
This unique little entity is the living essence of a planar portal. It’s head is actually a small runic portal circle, floating just about small robes that look like a starry night sky.
Senses dark vision
Speed fly 6(hover) teleport 5
Constant Benefits
You gain a +2 to Arcana and Nature knowledge checks
You gain mastery of the Planar Portal ritual, even if you don’t have the Ritual Caster feat.
Active Benefits
Dimensional Pocket: Reaching into the Sprite you reach into a dimensional pocket that can hold up to 200lbs of weight or 20 cubic feet in volume. Drawing an item from the Sprite is a minor action or the Sprite can teleport an item inside itself to land on a random square w/in a burst 2 of itself as a free action on your turn.
Here Now There: As a move action you or an ally adjacent to the Sprite can teleport anywhere within 5 squares of the Sprite. After the move action is complete, the Sprite returns to passive mode and cannot become active until the end of your next turn.

Quirks
The Sprite likes to change the color of the planar portal rune ring that makes up it’s head.

The Sprite likes to teleport small objects adjacent to it to random spots around an area, especially when people don’t realize it.

Anyone else have any homebrewed Familiars they'd like to post, or comments on the ones I posted?

Alright, a new familiar I'm doing for a friend.  He's a fire focused sorcerer, and wanted something to complement his fire abilities and wanted a familiar to enhance fire damage and let him play around with fire more, as you'll see.  So it may be a little more than your common familiar but that's actually what I'm going for here.

Phoenix
This little bird of flames loves to soar high in the sky.
Senses Normal
Speed Fly 8(hover)
Constant Benefits
You gain a resistance 5 to fire, if you already have fire resistance then increase that resistance by 2
You can read and speak Primordial
You gain the Affect Normal Fire ritual and can use it without expending component costs
Active Benefits
When you hit with an attack with the fire keyword you do an additional 1d6 fire damage
When the phoenix is killed it automatically revives in a burst of flames at the end of the encounter.

Quirks
The Phoenix loves to rain harmless sparks of flame when flying over people
The Phoenix constantly tries to warm all your food regardless of if it needs warming or not, and generally doesn’t know its own strength and will usually burn or boil the food unless stopped.

So getting Affect Normal Fire as a minor ability sure, could be considered too powerful.  But my friends wants to develop his character for more control over fire.  In the past he's uh...well lets just say he's an unintential pyro.  And sure he can just use the ritual, its only a minute amazingly for rituals, but he wants something along the lines of the wizard's prestigitation but with just fire.  He's not looking to use Affect Fire as like an attack or anything, its all about his character wanting control of fire but having to expend the cost every 8 hours.

Could probably just go with the usual "you can use it once per day without expending component cost" route and may do that, paying the cost once per day might not be bad for him but I'll keep that idea in the back burner for now.
