From what I understand all the classes now have fixed HP on leveling. Like a Cleric gets 5 + Con modifiere, and a Fighter gets 7 + Con modifier. Also from what I understand the DMG doesn't really present an alternate option to this.

Anybody got any ideas to house rule rolling for hp each level instead of having a specific number?

I may still use the static method of gaining a fixed amount of hp. It doesn't sound bad, and its not a complaint, just looking for ideas.

My current character is suffering from a series of bad HP rolls. We're talking three ones and twos in a row. Me, I'm ALL for a flat number per level. And, for the record, point-buy character creation. A little math is all a DM needs to tell if the player is "off" with his stats or HP. Lots less argument about the guy who magically rolls straight 18's and max hit points EVERY level. (Had one of those, many years ago.) I'm planning to let it stand as is.

You could always multiply the static number by 2 and round down to the nearest dice even if it's already a die that exists.(the numbers you provided look rounded up from the assumed average roll anyway), and have them roll that. All of the static HP gains they provided look like they rounded up the average roll of a die.

Assuming this is true it would work out: static 3= 4-sided, static 4=6-sided, static 5=8-sided, static 6=10-sided and static 7=12-sided.
