| #1EdTheMadOct 17, 2010 22:57:16 | Is there any reliable way to get rid of daily powers? I cant simple make it a encounter, because powers like bless will break the system. The problem is that the system as it is, people only use daily on the last encounter, exploding the enemies with all daily and action points. I was thinking in a system to give "power points", so people will have 2 resources to use. Healing surges to heal up and "power points" to use powers. Any ideas? |

| #4melloredOct 19, 2010 12:07:57 | Don't have the last battle be the tough one. You get into the castle (moderate), you fight the BBEG army (very hard), you fight the BBEG (a total wimp). |

| #6dave2008Oct 22, 2010 15:53:02 | We don't use encounter or dailies anymore. We spend 1 surge (no HP) to use an "encounter" power and 2 surges to use a "daily" power. |
| #7xpochianOct 22, 2010 19:10:28 | how do the PCs know what the "last encounter" is going to be, and why is the last one always the toughest? |
| #8EdTheMadOct 22, 2010 20:04:19 | Because if i dont tell that it is a tought encounter, they think that will be tougher ones ahead, so they hold back they power, unless they take a beating. If that happens, they stop to make a extended rest. I know, and i do, DM ways to resolve that, story wise. But i would be really glad to find a way so i dont need to worry about that problem. |
| #9tequila_sunriseOct 23, 2010 14:44:38 | A house rule I'm trying is not giving the PCs an action point after extended rests. They get one after the first encounter, and another one after each successive encounter. So far it's working out well; it cuts down on our action point dilemmas (How many APs did I use last session? How many encounters have we had since last extended rest? Gaaah!), and it gives the players a reason to fight on rather than hitting the bedrolls after every mildly challenging fight. There've been a couple great suggestions on this thread; just try one or two and see how it goes. And then let us know! |
