How to speed up combat in an online chat game?

tried to find a thread, but too many to search through, so will make new one.

I do a chat-based game, and it is fine during non-combat RP time, but combat seems to go so SLOW. Is there any suggestions out there (house rules, or general tidbits) to help speed up combat.

I like to have a bit of flair in the combat (instead of "I use twin strike, rolled 18, I do 14 pts of dam, I have them say "klink lunges both his swords towards the wrath like a tiger ripping into his prey.")

I could kill the flair, but it makes the combat more cinematic (in my eye).

Are there other time-saving strategies (even house-rules).

If you had all the stats posted, you could skip the confirmation stage.

"Does 24 hit?"
"Yes"
"I cut low and slice him for 4 damage"

That can be reduced to

"I cut low and slice him for 4 damage"

If you trust your players (i assume you do) you don't even need to say the name of the power.

"I slash the orc to my left for 5 damage and spin around to do 12 to the one on my right"

We implemented a 30 second rule, but we use maptool which allows you to setup macros. at any rate, you have 30 seconds from the start of your turn to take an action or you delay that round.

In fact I greatly suggest Maptool, as one set of macros actually does all the crunch bits if you plug in everything.

I second the use of maptool, i used it without macro's at first, and then used it with macros. Combats almost take half as much time, we're only slowed down due to new members.
