| #1companioncubeJan 17, 2010 14:07:27 | This may require several threads because there is quite a lot, but i'd just like to get all this down and hear from some fellow DMs. So, first some backstory. The Seru Edict: At the begining of recorded time, the gods came to the realm of Seru, and found it to be controlled by beings of immense power, the Primordials. Wanting to create an ordered realm suitable for their mortal creations, the gods attacked the Primordials, and so a great war began. After many eons of struggle, the gods and Primordials decided to call a cease fire, and negotiate a treaty. The lands of Seru were devided, the gods created a land capable of sustaining mortal life, and the primordials had their chaotic domains. These divisions were logged in a magical document known as the Seru Edict. After the war, the gods, fearing an attack from the Primordials, or from opposing internal factions, created a being of immense power. Borne of material from god, primordial, and demon lord, this creature had the power to destroy any deity in the cosmos. This "godslayer" served as a deterant to attack for many ages, until it became self aware, and began conspiring to destroy the entire pantheon and create a world where demons ruled over all living beings. The gods, in a desperate act assaulted the temple of the godslayer with the intent of destroying their creation. Many dieties fell in the ensuing battle. Boccob, Weejas, Obad Hai, and many others were destroyed. At last, Pelor, Ioun, Tharizdun(god of wisdom), Tiamat, and Torog created a spell of binding, using an artifact for each of the five gods involved. The godslayer was locked away, presumably forever. The god Tharizdun, once a wise and benevolent diety, was driven mad by the backlash of the ritual, and he in turn was locked away from the world. The remaining gods swore to never repeat their mistake, and the world went on... So, there is the creation myth for my campaign, as well as some foreshadowing for the plot of the camapign itself, which deals in part with the resurrection of the godslayer. The next segment will concern the layout of the campaign world as it exists during the actual campaign. |

Kind of lame, I want a clear victor and clear looser. This way we can have grudges, plotting ect. What cause them to decide "We have been fighting for eons, but you know what? screw it." If you can answer that with an interesting response, a cease fire could be interesting. If one side looses the other is granted the "less good" lands. Whether that be the mortal lands or the chaotic domains remains for you to decide. Borne of material from god, primordial, and demon lord Wait, where did demon lords come from? How do they fit in? this creature had the power to destroy any deity in the cosmos. This "godslayer" served as a deterant to attack for many ages, until it became self aware, and began conspiring to destroy the entire pantheon and create a world where demons ruled over all living beings. Did the gods make something that can destroy them on purpose? That seems dumb. How about the gods made an entity that is capable of destroying any primordial or demon, and basically it just wanders around hunting them. (See the predator X from the newer X Men series*). Unfortunately a primordial or demon has found a way to tamper with it. Granting it free will, and the ability to kill gods as well. Maybe it can also spawn smaller monsters, that can be used as foes for a lower level campaign. Ala the blight in Dragon Age Origins. If this is the case, we have gods who are angry over their loss in the great war so they make this thing. Or we have primordials who are angry at their police force thing (In this case I would say the predator thing mills about on the mortal world killing any primordials and demons who come to it acting as the police), and so they alter it. relavent wikipedia info on predator Show " Created by the scientists of the Facility and having absorbed some of Mercury's bio-metal skin, Predator X is highly resistant to physical damage, being able to draw in materials from the surrounding environment to help reform itself. The beast also possesses superhuman strength and endurance, as well as the ability to track mutants by their genetic signature alone. Predator X is essentially tireless, able to track and pursue prey without pause for great distances and lengths of time, eventually wearing the target down before going for the kill." |

And, what level are you starting at? if its first, you may want to build up to the god slaying stuff. Its fun to think about, but speaking as a sometimes player, I'd rather be involved with a story that revolves around my character's world, not some eons old feud between deities i know/care nothing about. |
