Yout see, the basis of my campign is that the characters start in what used to be a northern border province of a far larger empire. However, the empire abandoned the people of that province to the nearby orcs and goblins long ago to concentrate on wars closer to home (I got the idea from the Romans abandoning Brittania). That was just going to be the basis for a run of the mill PoL type campaign.
But after reading the warforged article and wondering whether and how I could fit them into my campaign, I had a brainstorm. What if the ancient empire was resurgent and trying to reclaim its former provinces, by force? And what if the reason was that they had won the wars that forced them to retreat. THey won because of a new weapon, a living weapon, warforged?
And what's more, what if these war forged had secretly taken over the empire. And the PCs find that the enemy that they think is attacking is actually just a front for their warforged masters.
Evil warforged, I like it. What do you guys think?
