Hey guys,

So I need a certain monster/being, and a couple of "blanks" filled in.

The story is as follows.

A Ranger (NPC) was doing his rangerly thing when he was given a vision of his village being overrun with undead, and his wife and child being caught up in the onslaught and killed. (Horrible I know)

So in his haste he cries out for the ability to save his family.

__________ appears and makes a deal with him to save his wife and child, but in exchange he must at once leave and become an agent of _______ in Sigil. When the sife and child are saved, they are whisked to the Shadowfell, and the Ranger is going to ask the PC's to secure his family.

I don't want to use a devil or a demon as they already have places in the story. He/she doesn't have to be evil or nefarious even for that matter. I was thinking perhaps a god as they can not into Sigil.

Anyway, whatchoo guys think?

What about a faerie creature of a more old-fashioned type, almost alien and incomprehensible in its motives and methods. It seems like the kind of thing to answer a ranger, wouldn't be out of place in Sigil, and might be a good way to tie in the Shadowfell?

Hmm thats not a bad idea. Maybe an Archfey of some sort. Not as evil as the winter guy, but not "good" either. What would the Fey want with Sigil tho?

And pardon my ignorance, who is Pazusu?

-Pazuzu. Pazuzu is notable for reaching out to anyone who summons any kind of aid, regardless of alignment, as this hastens his ability to corrupt them, by giving them something to make them in his debt.

I've always thought of Sigil as the kind of place where you can find anything; I'm not actually that familiar with it, so maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah, why would an archfey want anything to do with Sigil? The most powerful outsiders in the multiverse frequent there, making deals and such; that's no place for fey. There's nary an archfey to be seen, so anyone wanting to deal with them would have to seek one out specifically. Any archfey with representatives in Sigil would be constantly mobbed, and would have to spend a lot of time to figure out who he wants to owe him favors.

Sounds like a horrible place for a power-hungry archfey, right?

Well, if you went at one particular time, you could...but Her Serenity set Vecna straight pretty quickly with the help of some clueless Primes.

Ok ok ok...

I unfortunatley do not have much personal knowledge of Sigil (looking forward to DMG2)
So help me out a bit more, and toss me a few brain storm ideas on what a mischeveous Archfey would need from Sigil. Or who would he want to work with.

Huh?

-Everything you need to know about Planescape.

And regarding my comment in particular, the 2nd-to-3rd edition transition was explained in-game by having Vecna attempt to take over the multiverse/become all-powerful/etc. In doing so, he got into Sigil via some fancy tricks to get around the "no gods allowed" clause, and while the Lady of Pain held off most of his divine power, the PCs (the "clueless Primes," what Sigil natives call mortals from the Prime Material Plane) were able to destroy his avatar, sending him back to Greyhawk.

Him just being in Sigil caused massive harm to the multiverse, however, and to fix everything the laws of the universe changed from the 2e ruleset to the 3e ruleset. The whole thing was laid out as a fairly infamous adventure called "Die, Vecna, Die," which you can find online if you're interested in more details.
