So I thought about a solution in keeping with the 4th edition design philosophy: Paragon Path feats. The basic idea would be a bunch of paragon tier feats which would have the requirement "Must be a member of the ______________ paragon path" and that would provide minor benefits that fit the flavor of the paragon path. Here's an example: Blood of the Forest (Paragon) Prerequisites:Verdant Lord Benefits:You no longer require food or water to avoid starvation or dehydration so long as you are exposed to at least 1 hour direct sunlight each day. Do you guys think this is an interesting or workable concept? And do you have any further ideas for feats based on specific Paragon Paths. |

It not only fulfills the role you stated (putting more of the 3.5 fluff into the 4e Prestige Class conversions), but it is yet another source of feats that operates on vastly differing themes. This material is clarely worthy of a series of Dragon articles or even a book of it's own. If you continue this vein of thought, you can even then expand into epic destiny feats. |

A feat in paragon tier can be counted as equivalent to +2 to any NAD for most characters, so spending one on cool fluff represents a definite reduction in power. I note, however, with my keen powers of perception, that paragon paths get abilities at 11th, 12th, 16th, and 20th levels. There are some nice big gaps there at 14 and 18. How 'bout this: write up the abilities, make them fun and fluffy and generally not combat associated at all. Then, plug them into those level slots. If you have two abilities for a class, it gets one at 14 and one at 18; if you have one, it gets it whenever seems most appropriate. Great idea - I agree with MechaPilot, this deserves some official WotC coverage. |
