Idea for alternate Power Allocation

The purposes of considering the following power scheme are:

1. First and foremost, it should be simple, quick and not disturb the balance of the game.

2. It should promote diversity in power choices.

3. The main benifit should be to relieve some of the reservations against the current at-will/encounter/daily system, while maintaining it's benefits.

Plan: Introduce an endurance statistic as follows:

Each encounter/daily power (not including utilities or racial/class powers), costs endurance points. It is uniform among all powers of all races at a specific level/type(encounter/daily).

Example breakdown: (this is not setin stone)

Level
1 enc:3, daily:6

3 ench:4

5 daily: 7

7 ench: 5

Your starting endurance each day is the cost of all your enc/daily powers so, 25 at level 7 for instance. After each encounter you recieve the cost of your encounter powers back; so 7 at level 3, 12 at level 7.

That's it.

This makes it easier to choose less powerful powers that are more situational, hopefully benifiting #2.

I'd have to take a longer look at this to see if it's at all reasonable. I do think, however, that you'll get a better reception in the homebrew section than you might here.

Is there a way to move the thread?

You might be able to request it in the Community Business forum. Otherwise I think you can probably just start a new one there.

This idea is actually a pretty fun one. I don't know how the math pans out, it might need to be tweaked, but the basic idea is a fun one--and an idea that people used to roll around regarding the old idea of wizard "spell slots". Basically rather than preparing one 6th level spell--could they instead prepare some number of lower level spells.

The idea of swapping power for frequency is a neat idea. You'll have to let us know how it works for you.

The way my group has approached this problem has been to do two things.

1) You can use encounter and daily powers more than once per encounter/day but there are penalties for doing it that makes it a sacrifice. In other words, people can do a power more often than it says--but there's always a serious downside, so people usually don't.

2) New kind of feat that lets you convert a daily power into an encounter power, or a encounter into a daily. The more you use a power, goes the logic, the better you get at pulling it off more frequently. You can't multi-buy a single power, so dailies will never become at wills, and you can't adjust powers you get from items, race or class features--but otherwise at the cost of a feat you can move any power.
