Inspired by the Shadow Power Source speculation in the Future Releases forum, I came up with an interesting and new approch to the "word" leader power, and I'm trying to build a class around it. Any help would be appreciated.

Illusionist:
Leader with a heavy Controller splash.
Shadow Power Source

Delusion of Grandure
Minor Action
Usable 2 per encounter (3 times after level 16)
The target may spend a healing surge without gaining HP. If he does, he instead gains Temporary HP equal to twice their surge value, plus your Int mod. (temporary HP does not stack)

I don't know enough about 3.x spells to fill up the list, but I'm thinking at least one utility that allows temporary HP to stack for a round, or something.

So for example, a fighter with 200hp and Illusionist with 28 int would get 109 Temp HP?

As much as I wouldn't mind seeing a different thing then just 'HS+1d6' this is much much more powerful.

As opposed to healing 59 + 5D6 stackable HP, for a bard?
Then the bad guys give up on attacking the fighter, and start shooting the wizard.

Not to mention the fact that it does nothing for short-rest healing. The temporary HP fades at the end of the encounter, and anyone hurt is forced to resort to second-wind heals.

59+5d6 healing is at most 89 hit points, and it commonly won't hit that, averaging to 76.5.

The games I have played in, fighters and other defenders rarely run out of surges, but then I play with a cagey leader.

The fact that this rather than allow access to HS makes a better alternative to Healing Surges is bad. 109 Temp HP is enough for a lot of fighters to make it through an encounter. Nothing stops your illusionst from doing it right out the gates. For most other leaders, he must wait for the Fighter to be down enough to make the healing worthwhile.

Indeed... and then if the DM doesn't target the fighter at all, the fighter has wasted a healing surge.

If the fighter is not drawing fire then he isn't doing his job; so I think it would be a solid strategy.

I think the amount of healing should around the warlord or maybe even up to cleric, as temp hp has advantages and disadvantages.

Oh? Can you write out a pro/con list? I'm seeing a lot of disadvantages, with only 1-2 pros.
