I’m using a modified version of 4’s cosmology, where ‘the world’ was split into two worlds after the forming of the Feywild and Shadowfell. Anyway, one of these ‘pillars’ is inside an ancient Eladrin city that is located in a wasteland created by a magical explosion ages ago, and has since become tied to ‘the world’ and cannot re-enter the Feywild. The central tower’s design is getting its basic layout from the level “Library” from the original Halo, with the crystal suspended over a huge pit on the entry floor, and the party has to climb all the way to the top in order to take the elevator to go back down. The place is a labyrinth of passageways, many cut off from cave ins. Most enemies will consist of eladrin ghosts and wraiths still occupying the place. What I am asking for is ideas for ‘ghostly’ puzzles along the way in order to make the tower seem more haunted and mysterious than just a ton of encounters with ghosts. I want to differentiate the adventures a bit more than just different monsters and traps, as well as make the party more involved. |

The traps, I think, should revolve around not allowing living beings to show the ghosts the way out. Definitely closing doors behind the PCs. Shifting stairs and hallways. Think of combining "13 Ghosts" and "Labyrinth" movies. In the center of the labyrinth should be the explanation of the labyrinth and its purpose. Of course if the PCs reach this tome or scroll, the writing says they will not be able to get out. But that was written a long, long time ago. I am thinking of some kind of ghost golem that was accidentally created by the old magic and frustration of the ghosts not being able to leave. With the frustration and magic from the past, other doorways could have been opened. Negative plane, shadow plane, Abyss, Nine Hells, Ravenloft (I personally got chills thinking about a portal to Ravenloft....there could be a version of Eladrin City). Something eternal roaming around the halls of the labyrinth that seeks out and tries to kill living things. Gelatinous Cube? and the ghosts of the things that have been killed since the creation of the labyrinth. Ghost NPCs, ghost werebeasts, and of course the MAIN ghost the Eldarin city people did not want to be released...........a wizard ghost or lich. Let the lich give an oration about how he was punished for no real reason. He was wronged or tricked or betrayed. He is an angry lich or mummy or vampire (ooh Vampire...hmmm like Lestat in Interview with a Vampire after the burning of the Mansion). |
