#1 nnnnn May 24, 2010 11:23:34	The players need to gain entrance to a city which is under a paranoid police-state.  It's very hard to get in without proper papers or authorization. I want to construct a skill challenge around this, but I'm very inexperienced with constructing skill challenges. At a high level, there's a few ways to get in.  They can try to trick their way in, sneak in, or recruit someone to get them in, or fight their way in (obviously a bad idea). They can use Stealth, Bluff, Diplomacy.  Some secondary checks to help them with the primary checks could be History (for knowledge of secret paths into the city?), Insight for bonuses on Diplomacy checks, Athletics to help with stealth if someone tried to climb over the wall. That's what i've got so far.  can anyone help me flesh out this skill challenge?  I"m really new at it.
#2 twisted9 May 25, 2010 1:39:52	I have yet to build a skill challenge myself but plot wise, why not try splitting up the players by assigning them to different tasks. Someone can distract guards (diplomacy and bluff) while another person sneaks past (stealth plus some acrobatics and/or athletics) in order to open a back door* to the city (history) where a player is waiting in police clothing. That player then attempts to infiltrate (Bluff) an administrative station to gain some papers (Thievery). If successful, the player gains X number of papers granting the party permission to be in the city. The player gives one to the stealth player and then attempts to allow the diplomat inside by showing the guards the passes (Bluff). *Maybe throw an NPC that is friendly to the party to reveal the back door to the city (or even a Streetwise check) or have them stumble upon it (Perception) while looking for another way in. If you need insperation just watch some movies that involve bank robberies such as Inside Man, Bank Job, or the Ocean's movies. Hope that helps.
