Interesting ability ideas

A while back my players came to a point in the game where I thought I would reward them with some thing a little different. Each of the PC's got an interesting ability. This idea was a huge hit and my players asked for me to continue using this idea, even for new character, and into my other campaigns as time has gone on. Some of the abilities were fairly straightforward; being resistant for fire and being able to create fire with their hands. Some took a little more work on my part, something I was happy to do, such as being a post-cog, and being able to read the history of an item or place. And some broke the fourth wall; one player could monologue, and as long as the player could keep talking, in character, no one could fight (think every anime ever). Another player got the ability to break crates, barrels, jars, and he would find small amounts of money or maybe a potion or something in them, and no one would notice (think every Zelda game ever).

So I ave been coming up with abilities for a while now, and I could use some fresh ideas. Any suggestions any of you have would be great. Thanks.

I always liked the idea of Epic Moment abilities. Basically, the PC would gain some sort of lasting benefit when a pre-determined set of requirements are met. For instance, an elf being injured in a fight with drow.
I like to tailor it to the character, though. In the above instance, a fighter would gain a +2 to hit, while a warlock would either recycle a daily or encounter power.

I like to keep them a secret until the moment they are used, though. Makes for more dramatic fights.
