| #1chanter_houndMar 30, 2010 10:12:13 | I'm currently working on something for mounted combat, and here is some little things I've come up with. [sblock Lance] Lance Superior two-handed weapon Cost - 25 Damage 1d8 Prof: +3 Range: - Weight: 8 lb. A person proficent with the lance and on a mount may use the lance as though it had the Verstile Property. Properties Reach Group Polearm Spear [/sblock] [sblock Lance Training] Lance Training Tier: Heroic Str 13 You gain proficiency with the Lance. While charging you treat a lance as a high crritical weapon. If mounted treat the lance as one damage size larger. [/sblock] The Lance Novice power.. Its goal is to allow a charger to charge and smack an enemy as they are passing by them. I need a little rules lawyering here though to get its wording right. Show Lance Novice Tier: Heroic Prereq: Lance Training, 4th level You can swap one 3rd-level or higher encounter attack power you know for charge by attack power. Charge By Encounter * Weapon Free Action Melee Weapon Target: One Creature Attack: Strength vs AC Requirement: You must be charging. You must be Wielding a Lance. Hit: 1[w]+Strength modifier damage and the target is pushed 1 and knocked prone. Mounted: You instead push the target equal to your strength modifier +1 At 11th level, increase to 2[w] Damage At 21st level, increase to 3[w] Damage |
| #2sanityfaerieMar 30, 2010 13:59:26 | First, except for the mount bit, the lance is strictly worse than the greatspear. - and I'm not sure the mount bit is worded properly. It's not possible for somethign to be both two-handed and versatile. What was your intent here? Second, I'd assume that you meant Lance Training to be an MC feat? Third, trying to smack someone with your lance while charging someone else was a really bad idea in general. I think you might be better off putting together some sort of extra-W, knockback, knock prone usable-only-on-charge power. More thematic. |
| #3chanter_houndMar 30, 2010 14:28:11 | Well the lance in 3.5 was 2-handed. When on a mount you could use it one handed though. (heavy lance) Yes, Lance Training is an MC feat, I just haven't And yes, in real life jousting, it isn't a good idea. Though riding on top of a spider or whatever else is also not a good idea. Thats why we are fantasy. Now what I see happening in the movie scene, is the character is charging a certian target. As he does he wacks an enemy that was in the way of him and the primary target. Or on the side of him. In a sense, the character is over running the enemy. Also yes, the lance is suppose to be strictly worse than the greatspear. Because if both cost a feat to take and one does 1d10, reach, twohanded and one does 1d10, reach, twohanded (One handed on mount)... Then it would be strictly better. (I forgot the damage numbers.) |
| #4chanter_houndMar 30, 2010 15:51:41 | What if when you are on a mount, the lance is treated as a 1h weapon with the verstile property. This isn't so important to be able to ride the mount as it is for palidines to be able to use a shield. But much of the power of the weapon is suppose to come from the MC feat, similar to the bola, blowgun, net, spiked chains, whip and the like. |
| #5chanter_houndMar 30, 2010 17:14:36 | Anycase, for now.. The other two feats for the MC lance. Barreling Charge needs some word work, I'm quite sure of that. Might even be too powerful as well. [sblock Lance Adept] Lance Adept Encounter Prereq. Lance Training, 6th level Swap out a 6th level or higher utility power with Sky Lance Sky Lance Free action Requirement: You must hit an enemy in a charge while wielding a Lance. Slide the enemy 1 + half your str Mod, rounded down. This slide may be vertical. Mounted - You may slide the target an additional number of squares equal to half your mounts str mod, rounded down. [/sblock] [sblock Lance Specilist] Lance Specilist Daily Prereq. Lance Training, Level 10 Swap out 9th level daily for Barreling Charge Barreling Charge Daily * Weapon Standard Melee Weapon Target: One creature Str Vs AC Requirement: You must charge and use this attack in place of a melee basic attack. You must also be wielding a Lance. Special: For this charge, you may move through enemy squares. Effect: For each enemy in your path, make the following attack when you can reach them. STR vs AC HIT: 1[W] and you push the target a number of squares equal to your str mod. HIT: 1[W]+str mod and you push the target a number of squares equal to your str mod and knock them prone. Mounted: When an enemy would make an oppertunity attack, they may shift 1 space instead. If they choose to make the attack, afterwards they take damage equal to your mounts str mod, are pushed 1, and are knocked prone. Level 15 Increase to 2[w]damage Level 25 Increase to 3[w]damage [/sblock] |
| #6chanter_houndMar 30, 2010 23:07:17 | First, except for the mount bit, the lance is strictly worse than the greatspear. - and I'm not sure the mount bit is worded properly. It's not possible for somethign to be both two-handed and versatile. What was your intent here? I started looking again at what I did here. Sacrificing your MC slot, the Lance becomes a one handed great spear on a mount. Charging it gains the high crit property. Without the MC slot, its similar to nets, bola and the like where you would most likely never use it. Pick up a MC feat, and a mount, and now you have a 1handed greatspear. Charge, and you have a 1handed greatspear with high crit. For the thing I'm working on, I'm doing a little eratta on the rules for mounts. Mounts (And animal companions) have three magic slots. Barding, Head Gear, Foot Gear. Most effects of these things will only effect the mount (or BC) which when riding the mount will sometimes effect the player (Particarly the foot gear.) Either that, Or a feat that expands the number of slots your mount can have. But thats just draining and I know no one wants another feat tax to play a mounted character. I also plan on creating something that no other weapon MC has ever had. A Paragon path to go with the feats called, of all things, Benalish Lancer. Here is a list of fairly underwhelming traits for the paragon path. Level 11 - Shielded Rider - Gain Proficiency with all shields. If you already had proficiency with all shields, while weilding a shield you gain an additional +1 shield Bonus Level 11 - Recovering Strike - Whenever you spend an action point to take an extra action, you regain the use of Charge By Attack. Level 16 - Armored Rider - Gain Proficiency with Platemail. If you already had proficiency with Platemail, reduce all its penalties by 1. |
| #7Omnirahk_half-RahkshiMar 31, 2010 20:53:48 | One suggestion for Barreling Charge. For the attack you make against enemies whose squares you move through (would that be a secondary attack? It might make the wording less awkward) - for that secondary attack, note that you can only make the attack once per target. Barreling Charge Daily * Weapon Standard Melee Weapon Requirement: You must charge and use this attack in place of a melee basic attack. You must also be wielding a Lance. Special: For this charge, you may move through enemy squares. Effect: For each enemy in your path, make a secondary attack when you can reach them. You cannot make the secondary attack against the primary target, and you can only make the secondary attack against each enemy once. Primary target: One creature Primary Attack: Str Vs AC HIT: 1[W]+str mod and you push the target a number of squares equal to your str mod and knock them prone. Secondary Attack: STR vs AC HIT: 1[W] and you push the target a number of squares equal to your str mod. Mounted: When an enemy would make an oppertunity attack, they may shift 1 space instead. If they choose to make the attack, afterwards they take damage equal to your mounts str mod, are pushed 1, and are knocked prone. |
| #8chanter_houndMar 31, 2010 21:13:26 | Ah yes, that would be important so the person charging the enemy couldn't just keep knocking one back and back agan to keep attacking him. The idea of course of the barreling charge is to attack the enemies that would be in your way with reckless abandonment. The ones directly in your path get hit with the secondary attacks and pushed aside (And if you can push them, sky lance fixes that for you.), and if you are mounted the ones to the sides of you get pushed aside, unless they do the hollywood style "diving" action. So that little bit for the front part of the attack would be good to fix On the second part, the mounted part, Something started bugging me about it. I realized that if the enemy was adjacent to you, and didn't use is AoO on you because you charged by him, he could just stand there and not get pushed and knocked prone. So how to set up the wording so its either you get an oppertunity attack, or you dive out of the way. And if they don't or can't do either, they are still shoved out of the way. |
