| #1crazedbananaNov 13, 2008 23:42:54 | HI. I'm really new to this, and really new to D&D. Like, I've barely even learned how to play, so I was hoping someone could help me think up a campaign setting. Kinda like a knock off of lords of creation!):P |
| #2crazedbananaNov 13, 2008 23:43:56 | Oh yeah, feel free to start it off, I'm totally clueless on how to start! |
| #3space_dragonNov 14, 2008 2:04:11 | Step #1: read the DMG. |

Famous settings are Tolkien's Middle Earth (I don't like it much, though), The Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Eberron, Greyhawk, Mystara, Norrath, and quite a few others. Books which can serve as source material would be Hyboria (described in the stories of Conan by Howard), the world of Lankhmar (Fafhrd & the grey Mousling by Fritz Leiber), the Riftwar Saga (in the books of Raymond Feist), Earthsea (by Ursula LeGuin), the Seven kingdoms (the Deriny books by Katherine Kurtz) or historic settings (the Empire of Rome, the Dark Ages, the greek city states, etc.), in which magic works. |

Start small and go from there. The 4E Points of Light idea is fine for this - all you need is a homebase and a nearby dungeon/ruins/cave system to explore/loot. Use this first area to learn the rules with your friends. After a bit, start anew in a nearby area. |
