So, gang. I've recently began the arduous -- however, rewarding -- process of forging my own world: Khalonar. I have a million ideas buzzing around my brain and I can't get a grasp on too many of them. I plan to post here periodically as I finish each scrap of knowledge, lore, and myth. I'm looking both for constructive criticism as well as additional ideas.

OH, and for the record, this is a 3.5 campaign setting.

Thusfar, I have very little. I have a decent map (drawn by me) of Khalonar. Another map of a small kingdom in Khalonar, Aziir. Finally I have the 'stereotypical dwarves' that are found in Khalonar. These are my only Concrete thoughts/devices.

Cool stuff - l like the map.

You mention deep dwarves having brown eyes sometimes - is there a mystical significance to this or just a rarity? I ask because the description made me think deep dwarves would look to check it the irises of their children were dark brown or truly black. I really like the board of the Underdark, and the Stone and Pebble concept.

For some reason this made me think of someone's description of Minas Tirith from another forum:

Minas Tirith
I'll second Gotham City and Gondolin, but I have to add Minas Tirith. It's more than a city built into a hill; it's a merge of mythological brilliance and historical authenticity. Ever heard of terracing? That was how the city started. Ziggurats? That's how it became a power. They terraced into a hillside, and built a wall on every level they terraced. The put gates on opposing sides all the way up -- the gate's on the left on the second level, right of the third, and so on -- so an army has to march in a zig-zag up every level until it reaches the top -- all while being fired on from above. And it's almost entirely made of marble -- white stone -- so it shines brilliantly in the sunlight -- did I mention orcs and trolls hate sunlight?

EDIT
Cool stuff - l like the map.

Thank you.

Great Question, hadn't really thought about it. Definitely something I might look into.
The birthplace of the elves makes me think elves are supposed to be buried there. I just see their families making a journey to this secret lake and rowing the dead elders there. Perhaps somewhere in the history of your world the mystical significance of this becomes clear (like ancestor spirits defend the living or something?)

Used this!
Anyway, great stuff, look forward to more!

Thanks, again!

I'm really looking forward to this one. If only because the dwarves and elves are to different to what I'm cooking up.

For Nordvaar I'd consider making Dragonborn the civilised race, who better to survive harsh winters and roaming ice giants than scaled people with an inner fire?

Also: I need to make a map too. Darn it. Laughing Good work, keep it up!
