Show At the burial site the PCs have a chance to end up with a relic that Kalarel is going to use to collapse the seal. How is it that he doesn't end up with this object but seems very close to collapsing the seal when the PCs show up? I suppose it could be that the mirror just makes the ritual easier for him. Or maybe there are multiple rituals he needs to do to open it anad he hasn't gotten to the mirror part yet? |

The mirror is part of his "save my own hide" contingency plan. That's why he put Agrid the gnome in charge of finding it for him. If the goblinoid forces found out he was afraid of being defeated, they might be less likely to follow a "weak" leader. Just a thought, anyway. |

If the gnome does not have the item on him at the end of the battle then you can assume that another of K's people is watching and waiting till the players move away to move in and recover the item. Another possible choice is to decide that K will purposely leak his location after the player's have the relic. K will believe that the players are going to goof up and die in the keep allowing him to recover the item. If the player's finally reach K in the final battle, you can have K start with a big line like, 'Ahh, right on schedule. I am so happy that you brought the relic that I need to complete the ceremony. It was most kind of you to carry it here. As a reward, I will let you be the first souls offered up to Orcus as the gate is opened.' That should tick off the players and make them feel silly for carrying the relic all through the adventure. If the players bury it or try to hide then again, have one of K's agents be watching secretly and recover it. The agent can step forward from the shadows just as the players are about to interrupt the ceremony. Again, good times for the DM rubbing the recovery of the relic into the player's faces to set them in a mood for a final battle. |
