What does everyone think about Lay On Hands healing the Paladin's Healing Surge amount, instead of the recipient's amount? IMO it makes flavor sense, but would it be unbalancing from a mechanical standpoint?

Feel free to argue either point.

Well, flavour sense, both ways could have a viable explanation.

Unbalancing, well... it depends. The best way to know should be building a paladin and running a game, trying eevry possibility. If you see that suddenly the Pala overshadows every other healer, then it is OP.

The thing is that increasing his own Healing Surge Value, the Pala would be able to cure more. Wether there are easy ways to do it and combo, I don't remember right now. Also, usually the PC's are all about the same level, but if a lvl 15 pala heals a lvl 10 char, then the percentage healed would be a lot more. The lvl10 would heal about 50% more (random estimation) than using his own surge, so it could happen that an at-will would heal partners completely. But that should be an uncommon case because, as I said, party members tend to stay about 1 lvl difference or so.

Yeah, unless the paladin is lower level, it's probably going to be healing more using the Paladin's surges value, then it starts to rival Healing/Inspiring Word (moreso with Healing word, since they also get the Wis bonus from Healer's Lore). I'd leave it as is, since it grants the ability to spend a healing surge, and can be done much more often than the Word powers.

Yeah, I can see that. I really like the flavor, though - the Paladin using his own life force to heal his allies, instead of just triggering their own healing ability.

How can I go about balancing it? I can't think of anything to remove or depower to make this balanced.

If you leave it as it is, you can always interpret that the most pious characters recieve a beter blessing (i know, it has nothing to do with piety, but with CON, but is a kind of trying to make it more glam...)

Oh, and also...

Dragonborn Palas will have a Lay of Hands value of 1/4hp+CON+CHA

Amazing. Maybe CON would displace WIS as tertiary stat.

Any ideas?
