Do you mean that you don't have to pay to learn the ritual? Or do you mean that you don't have to pay component costs to use the ritual? Because the former is fine, but the latter is likely too much unless you limit it to once per day. Fey Step: You can use fey step as an encounter power. Hmm, if you're going to do this, I recommend that you do what the Drow does and say that they can only use one of their two powers per encounter. |
| #3zorakerDec 01, 2009 3:28:44 | actually that is a good idea so wat do u think did i get the lepricorn race right and with that ritual you gain it at first level tho you still need to do the components cost |
| #4Crimson_ConcertoDec 01, 2009 3:35:01 | Wow, I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but capitalization, punctuation, and writing out your words would go a long way towards making posts like the one above more readable. Anyways, if you still have to pay the component cost for the ritual and if you can only use either one racial power or the other per encounter, then I think it's fine. However, if you were really just going to rip off of the Gnome so much, I'm not sure why you didn't just re-flavor the gnome to begin with. |
| #5QubeDec 01, 2009 8:41:15 | meh ... I got a feeling of "this is a race that is a gnome and/or a eladrin". I'm missing something original ... |
| #6zorakerDec 02, 2009 8:05:00 | well i made some changes hopefully its more like the race im trying to make |
| #7Crimson_ConcertoDec 02, 2009 8:34:14 | Way of luck: When you roll for initiative, if you roll a natual odd number you gain a -2 to the roll, if you roll a natual even number you gain a +2 to the roll. IMO, this sounds like a terrible idea. Effect: you teleport to a square that is not adjacent to any other creature. Range limit on that teleport? |
| #8zorakerDec 02, 2009 8:39:58 | sorry about that i forgot the range limit any ideas on what i should do for way of luck |
| #9QubeDec 02, 2009 9:31:38 | I don't know, but 'trigger: enemy hits you; effect: teleport 3'. doesn't that mean the enemy doesn't do damage ? |
| #10pluisjenDec 02, 2009 9:33:19 | It's a reaction, so resolve damage first, teleport later. |
| #11zorakerDec 06, 2009 8:01:16 | so is it all right |
| #12Leogun_91Dec 06, 2009 9:08:14 | Way of luck: When you roll for initiative, if you roll a natual odd number you gain a -2 to the roll, if you roll a natual even number you gain a +2 to the roll. That was what made this race intresting for me, it's so cool to play a race where luck is so important. It's a really cool rule and not gamebreaking at all. |
| #13Crimson_ConcertoDec 06, 2009 9:50:41 | I'm not of the opinion that it's game-breaking. In fact, it's completely power-neutral. The problem is that I don't think self-destructive gambles belong on a racial feature, because they're the sort of thing that only serves to drive people away from what they might otherwise consider a really interesting concept. It's not that I don't think that mechanics that are self-destructive gambles should exist. I think it's great for people who want them, but my problem is with making them mandatory as opposed to optional on a character concept that doesn't require them to be mandatory. Furthermore, the mechanic doesn't actually serve at all to drive home any concept of the race being any luckier than other races. They still average the same initiative as everybody else does. I think that it would be conceptually better for this feature to only be able to provide a bonus. That way, you've just "lucky" and "not as lucky" or "luck-neutral" but not "unlucky", which should average towards "lucky". If I might make a suggestion: Way of Luck: When you roll for initiative, if the D20 die result is an even number, you gain a +4 racial bonus to the roll. ...or... Way of Luck: When you roll for initiative, if the D20 die result is an odd number, you gain a +1 racial bonus to the roll, and if the D20 die result is an even number, you gain a +3 racial bonus to the roll. I think that something of this nature, with lack of luck simply not being rewarded instead of being punished, would be both more mechanically appealing and more in-flavor. Plus, this way it actually comes out to average as a racial bonus instead of just being completely mechanically neutral. |
