what it says in the tile lets create a fantasy setting and the rules are below

1. You can only post two ideas per post. You can add to anything, the geography, the gods, the nations, the monsters, it is a world we all share.
2. The ideas must be well thought out, yet light enough for others to add to it later. So no complete world history, but events, stories and ages are up for grabs.
3. All ideas are awaiting approval from Me, Everything is Canon once approved and can't be changed except by the original poster or me and when your writing out an idea you must take into account all non-rejected ideas including unapproved ideas though you are allowed to change posts if they involve something thats been rejected.
4. No race can be removed from the setting. For example: You can claim the elves are thought to be dead, but you can't be sure.

now let the brainstorming begin

p.s. rules and concept inspired by the Everything is Canon! thread

Throughout the Multiverse there are many different kinds of mortal planes the one we now look upon is called Apia by it's natives and is a somewhat older world than the more prominent realm known as the Points Of Light and while that world is currently without any major empires this world is entering into the equivalent of Earth's Imperial Age when it comes to empires and nations and tech wise for the most part it's around renaissance level tech though with plenty of places that use lower level tech and some places have even more advanced tech

heres the world map

I got Banned from alternatehistory.com so I wont be able to post any maps or images there, but:

AGE OF CARNAGE
A Dinosaur age from which the regular D&D monsters evolve from Dinosaurs.

Needed: Dinosaur Templates for the regular Monsters so we know where they came from. For us the Chicken evolved from the UTAHRAPTOR, but the KOBOLD evolved from the SNAPDRAGON, a nasty little raptor that runs on its hind legs when chasing down prey but crawls through the muck on its belly.

The world is a completly normal earth-like planet, it orbits a sun. About 70% of it's surface is covered in vast oceans that are somewhat deeper then it's Earth equilant.
The landmasses are far more mountainous and plains and steppe country is a rarity as most of the landmasses are covered with hill-country, small valleys and vast mountain-chains.

Orcs are by far one of the more powerful races in the world and inhabit a dozen powerful states that covers about one fourth of the main continent. These states tends to be Monarchies and fairly militaristic.
Their armies uses a mixture of fire-armed soldiers, cavalry and pikemen supported by powerful magicans. They are highly trained and has nearly abandoned plate, chain-mail and other forms of armour. Instead the wear cloth uniforms in the colours of their homecountry.
Mages are used as artillery and tends to exclusivly focus upon destructive spells, especially fire-based ones are favoured.

Human society is not yet at its peak - there is only one human kingdom composed of a few castles that rebel against the orcish reign. Otherwise, humans are mostly used as slaves for Orcs.

Goblins, on the other hand, are native to the forests - their tribes roam freely in them, making wars against or pacts with each other. They are not evil, but more like chaotic neutral - they are also one of the rare allies of humans (though there is plenty of distrust between them and the humans).

After escaping from total annihilation at the hands of the powerful Orcish states, a city state of dwarves escaped into the oceans. They built a large armor plated floating sea vessel of enormous size. They call the home ship, Moradin's Hope. The dwarves travel from island to island, collecting the raw materials they need to maintain the Moradin's Hope as well as to build up their armory. The dwarves plan on reclaiming their homeland someday. After several generations, these dwarves are far more comfortable on the water than they are underground.

Currently the sea dwarves are working on making a submersible sea vessel.

The world has a single super-continent surrounded be several islands, some of them big enough to be considered continents of their own.
The super-continent whose western shores hosts the Orcish states is divided in to several smaller parts all that has their own cultural history and traits.
The Continent as a whole is yet unnamed but the different regions wear names. Such as the south-western massive peninsula that hosts the Orcish states is known as Jaffree.

Jaffree is heavily settled not only by Orcs but by many other races. Several cities, towns and settlements exists there and technology in general tends to be at an renaissance level here.

these posts that are quoted are canon the others aren't due to clashing with the basic idea behind this setting though they aren't bad ideas

Emm, what do you mean?

Are the ideas that are quoted accepted? And all the other ideas not accepted? Why do those that are not accepted clash with the basic idea? Is it due the fact that they have a more "Medievalish" feeling?

It's hard to make posts that don't clash with basic idea if we don't even know what a basic idea is, eh? Until then, I can only try to do non-clicheed stuff...

Well, take 2:

-Once every 2000 years, a large asteroid, which orbits the planet's sun, passes near the planet. The smaller asteroids that follow up bombard the planet, creating craters and bringing alien organisms with them, as well as different metals that are not found on the planet itself.

-Seismic activity is rather lively on this planet, and the continents move few dozen miles on average every year. That results in frequent earthquakes, volcanoes and creations of new mountain chains.

1: Orcs are by tradition Monotheistic and believe in one God, simply known as The One. According to the Orcish faith in the beginning the world was nothing but an endless ocea. Strong winds ruled the skies and dark beings drifted around deep below.
Then the One arrived, with firm hands he raised land from the ocean. With hard words he tamed the winds and teached it to heed his words and with endless rage he slained those beings that dared to infect what now was his. Some of them escaped though and a few even managed to fight back against the One. These treacherous and beastial beings are the ancestors and creators of everything that is not Orc.
The One created the Orcs in his image. Gave them his strength, his rage and most importantly his courage.

The story is heavily flawed and is strongly biased.

2: The world was created not by a sole God nor a Goddess. The world was there far before God and Goddess sat their feet there for the first time. It's origin is unknown to even most Gods.

The feywild and creatures of fey origin were unknown until 50 years ago when a large group of elves, eladrin, and gnomes forced a connection to escape from some horrible disaster in the feywild. Wielding a new and powerful fusion of magic and technology, they quickly secured the local area and began to attempt peaceful negotiations with their neighbors. Their immigration has allowed fey beings to break through into the wild places all over the world, where they have quickly integrated with the native life.

I'd like to toss out a suggestion that I used for the drow on one world. They kept the matriarchal society, and males have fewer rights than females, but a wise matron will listen to her consort for the different perspective he brings to things. They are militaristic, and in the service is the one place a male can expect to find any semblance of equality (few males are high-ranking officers, and those that are still often find themselves subservient to a higher-ranking female). The arcane arts are seen as a craft more suited to males, such as sewing and cooking in our world is traditionally seen as "woman's work", but there's very little stigma attached to a female that chooses to practice magic. The relationships are more like the Victorian standard from our own world. A consort might suffer from domestic abuse, but it isn't something that's talked about in polite society.

In the war, the drow fought alongside their surface counterparts. As the war was being lost, the elven commanders saw the "enthusiasm" with which the drow fought. Not realizing how restrained the drow were being, the elven commanders ordered the drow to go to town on the enemy. The savagery that followed was so horrendous that it was stricken from the history books. After the war (you decide which side they were on), when rebuilding was going on, the drow applied for their share of rebuilding assistance. After all, they had lost so many warriors in the fight, and it would be some years before the current generation was old enough to circulate the economy by working, farming, etc. Still recalling what the drow did, their requests were denied. Angered, the drow returned to their underground cities, vowing to disengage themselves from the surface world entirely. Any surfacers who wander into the Underdark are to be enslaved. After all, there is much work to be done.

In the version I ran, the drow referred to the War Above and the Peace Below. Strong proponents of peace through superior firepower, they have remained a militaristic society, ever prepared for war. In that campaign, the surface was almost constantly at war, and the drow just got tired of losing their people to what they saw as a "foreign war". Any who wander into the Underdark thinking they can coax the drow into an alliance find themselves enslaved for the duration at least. The drow do not come to surface unless they absolutely need to, such as to raid for supplies. When they do raid, they try to be quiet about it, but if noticed, they generally don't leave any witnesses, lest some idiot come to their Underdark looking for justice or revenge.

this one I didn't like is because it limits humans too much

this one at first I thought contradicted the world map I posted but I looked at the map again and it does fit so it's canon now

I like the asteroid idea as it allows for odd happenings to happen and makes for a good adventure hook so it's canon though the seismic activity idea would cause too much destruction so it's not canon

not bad though the timing for the portal is a tad recent for my tastes so I have to think on this one

((Perhaps create links to canon posts in the first post?))

Gods can talk to their worshippers at any time - without the need of angels. Their voice is heard only by the person they speak to.

A god is created whenever a person begins to worship him - however, in order to be able to make miracles and send his own agents, the god has to gain more worshippers. They do it by usually urging the original worshipper. This is rare, however, as the most numerous groups of worshippers of other deities quickly destroy the newly - made gods.

Greenskin Orcs are the second most well known member of what are unofficially called the Grendalkin which are further seperated into five main subgroups: Goblinoids, Orcoids, Trollkin, Ogrekin, and Djurkin and include among the ridiculously varied include Schleim Goblins, True Goblins, Hobgoblins, Koalinith , Bugbears, Trolls, Ogres, Dekanter, Azul Goblins, Norkers, Schnee Goblins, Varags, Thoul, Bakemono, Ogre Lords, Ogrillon, Merrow, Cyclopian Giants, Sea Trolls, and Squig-Beasts and they are a distant offshoot family of H0m0 Orcus' ancestor and in fact all Hominid species' ancestor the Glangus and have rivaled with other H0m0 species for dominance since Prehistory

Notes- on Apia most obviously human-related humanoids humanity included are descended from a hominid called the Glangus which takes the place of H.Habilis in the Hominid family tree and would diverge into the various Hominid Humanoids including Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings as well as humans and part of their divergent evolutions involve the coming of the gods and in fact the Grendalkin are a very good example of this their ridiculous amount of diversity is due to manipulation from the Deity they think is the worlds creator, Grummush and this can be seen with many other Hominid Races and their Deities and is the main reason they can interbreed with each other

is there a time limit on editing posts like there is on some forums?

on another note I like the idea as it's similar to what I had thought of which is that while gods can be born out of nothing they are without substance until either they find a domain to hold over or find beings to venerate them though this doesn't apply to Deities that are born of others of their kind or to those who ascend to Deity-Hood

Gods ( Especially the most powerful ones ) in general care little about the affairs of mortals. They are all to involved in the inner workings of the Celestial court. Therefore they tend to leave a lot of authority to their agents and clergy.

The Celestial Court is a certain plane that works as a meeting spot for the gods. Most minor gods live within the Celestial Court that takes the form of a palace of undisbuted beauty. Balls, festivals, dances and dinners are organized at every hour making sure that the Gods are properly entertained.
Though the thing that draws most Gods to the court is the political intrigue.
Major Gods often have planes of their own but tends to be frequent visitors to the court.

I'm unsure of this idea because I was going to have the gods be rather active on Apia so I'll have to think on this one though I like the idea of there being a Demi-Plane to act as neutral ground for the gods

Something to get the holy wars started, perhaps?

Power of a god grows as his circle of mortal worshippers does. That is why all gods constantly war against one another, attempting to gain more power by simply usurping their worshippers. They do not war only on mortal plane (making their worshippers destroy devotes of other gods), but also on their plane - interrupting castings of miracles, fighting for control of the scrying mirrors, et cetera. All races (Orcs, Drow, Goblins...) except humans worship only one god. Some humans worship this god, some the other one, some that one - and that is why they are almost always at war.

The largest human empire is a quasi - communist society, in which everyone (except for the current ruler) is considered equal. The amount of oppression is not that huge, as the ruler is most beneficial - however, there are some bureaucrats in that exploit their positions daily.

while there is normally at least one god that takes responsibility for a race they can still worship other gods though some races rarely worship other gods besides their Patron/Creator on a large scale such as the Drow with Lolth or Gray Orcs and Grummush in his guise as the Warbringer
