I have spent some time designing a level 26 solo for use in the Forgotten Realms but I thought I just might place it here because my 4th edition skills are limited and this is the first time I have tried creating something at this level of power. It is not really intended for use against characters but rather as a plot device. But, I statted it out more for the practice of monster creation at epic levels.

So, I was hoping to receive some feedback on the monster's viability as an epic creature. I haven't spent a lot of time studying those character levels so I am not real sure of this. Also, it is the founder of a mercenary company so that is why I made it a leader and some of its stats might not be that useful for a solo or

So, I'm looking for all comments and suggestions. When I make changes, I will change it in the OP and put an update post in the thread.

Thanks,

Now for Coliar:

Background:

Coliar first made herself known in the Unapproachable East as the commander of her mercenary company and the priestess of a lost goddess. It was said by those who had faced her (and been allowed to live...) that she had the best footwork of any soldier to have ever walked on the face of Toril. In battle, her every step was a dance and none could match her. During their conquest of Unther, the Mulhorandi sent numerous Glorious Servitors (great divine warriors...) of their gods to slay her and yet the Black Lion, as the Turmic slave escapees referred to her, always emerged victorious. She ascended to something more than mortal before the spell plague and after her return from the Elemental Chaos has been busy re-establishing the company and spreading the faith. she is also searching for clues to lead her to the Lost Plane of Zigguraxxus where Gilgeam laid Inanna's body to rest after her death in battle. Perhaps she will bring about the rebirth of Inanna in her own person when she finds it. Thte few tales of her deeds in the Elemental Chaos and Feywild that have reached Toril have been shrouded in enough mystery to keep her true power a secret from most.

Description:

Coliar appears as a female Gray Orc with an aura of electricity about her. She is very tall and remarkably long limbed. Her long black hair is often fixed into eight braids and her eyes are as blue as a summer sky. She carries a grataxe with fiery red rosettes etched into its surface which is always polished to a glorious shine. A single piece greatbow is usually carried over her shoulder along with its quiver. Coliar often goes topless, wearing only a silk skirt, also inlaid with rosettes. She is often in the company of Shulgu (the Herald of Inanna,a battle angel w/the paladin template) and Humbaba (the cyclops storm shaman (w/wizard template) or running with the Pride ( a group of feline shifters, level 11 skirmishers (w/the ranger template)

I would say that you should deck it to make it look cooler.

update: added decking to OP.

About some of the 'abilities': wrath of the goddess, and bringer of death are things I just upped that would have been part of her abilities as a leader before being a solo so I just left them. The giver of life bit was just some fluff (based off the resurrection power of paladins (?)) I through in to make her appear as the seed of a dead goddess of rebirth. Inanna was a goddess of war and fertility.

Maybe I will put them into a fluff box.

To me it seems like she has no special abilities that use a bow for the attack so I think that it could be gotten rid of.

Also leader is just a sort of sub role. She is an solo leader but what role is she. Is she a brute, soldier, skirmisher, or what?

RB Coliar's Bow (standard, at will) ranged, weapon
+31 vs AC; Damage: 1d10+12, Critical: 5d6 thunder +22

R Storm Dread (minor, at will)
(Thunder rolls across the sky turning the enemy's bowels into water.)
Ranged 10, +31 vs. Will;
Hit: the target gains vulnerability 10 to thunder damage (save ends)

It gives an at will power that works with storm dread.

Maybe you could make a couple of different fighting templates for her. Each one uses a different main weapon or some such. She could have one with the axe and one with the bow. You could also add in one with a polearm of some sort or something. This way if we was fought multiple times she would have a different feel each time. It would also make sense as far as combat goes, cuz once you choose a weapon for combat it is dumb to change when you have many foes trying to kill you. It's just a thought.

I like that, I will have to work on it for a while.

then you should put weapon at the end of storm dread. I was thinking that it was some sort of supernatural thing. It would also have some sort of other key word such as thunder or something on it too.

It works with both bow and thunderstrike, it would also add to damage inflicted by Fury of the Queen of the Sky. So, it works with a lot of things. I think I might change it to a fear effect that gives vulnerability to thunder.

Note: her bow is a thunder bow.

I was thinking about the multiple template thing and I have sort of come up with something. I would suggest have each template have a different role and each one uses a different weapon. For instance, she could be a skirmisher when she is wielding her axe. In this template she would have the extra damage under a certain condition and would also have the movement abilities. I think that some of the other skirmisher stuff should have radiant type stuff added in or something.

I would suggest that when she uses the bow her template should be artillery and she should use thunder and maybe even lightning based attacks (one or two could be both). She should have an ability that keeps enemies from hitting her, or at least make it harder. I believe that you have one that knocks the enemy prone but it could probably be changed to slide X squares and knock prone. The damage should probably be lowered a little bit if you add in a slide. I think it would also be cool if she had an attack she could make with her bow that allowed her to teleport away, so that she can stay away from melee combatants.

I think it would be cool if she had another template that is that of a soldier where she wields a polearm or something. This one could mark enemies, pull enemies in close and allow for her to make multiple attacks.

Also I find that auras help out a lot with monsters with the leader, elite and/or solo role(s). The big advantage of auras is that they don't go away when dazed the way your ability to take immediate actions does.

I am maybe rethinking the template bit. Even though solos have a characterization (soldier) they can actually be all rolled into one. I'm thinking of dropping the bow and changing it to a CB lightning bolt that targets an individual within a burst and thus avoids opportunity attacks. Then I will change double attack to allow to melee basic and the CB, even possibly one attack of each.

As a solo she should be statted to fight a party of five simultaneously.

Since she doesn't have reach, I like keeping all the movement capabilities so she can reach any opponent. Also, the Dance of Inanna lets her attack most of the party one at a time in one round.

However, I think I like the template idea for use if I ever stat out Inanna herself, what Coliar may grow into. Inanna was very fickle, had a 1000 titles and many characterizations. I think that would be a cool way for different avatars to be represented.

Even though Solos are an encounter all on their own if you have them fight a party of their level the fight tends to be easy and boring. In this case it is often suggested to have many allies, standard and minions, accompany the solo into combat. For this reason I like support type auras for solos. If you want the solo to fight on its own then it is best to go with some type of harmful aura.

Because she was the leader of a mercenary company, you could make a template the is suppose to be similar in style to the warlord. She would be more like a warlord/fighter mix, as a solo, so her role would be that of a controller. This template would be best for fights where she is with allies so that she can give them extra attacks, allow them to move, heal them, give them bonuses and any other such thing you can think of. Her basic melee attack could let an ally within X squares shift Y squares towards the target. It would be a sort of flanking type combo move.
