Looking at Undead sourcebook, got some campaign inspiration.

So the deal is that there are wheels within wheels, and the undead can work well together... but might just be out to manipulate each other for their own gain.

The campaign would start by the PCs each giving a reason to be in this particular town... there have been some problems there lately so maybe they are actually adventurers by trade and hoping to earn some coin and do some good, maybe they live there. Up to them. The first adventure would start with my favourite opening: "You wake up naked, and apparently captured by kobolds." Currently unguarded, skill challenge to work together to escape from their cage that's just big enough to hold all of them.

Their starting gear would housed in a chest nearby. They would fight/find their way out and learn more of the plans of this kobold group, who are working to supply corpses for parties unkown. This would lead to the necromany club, who in turn had ties to the ruler of one of the local city-states (think Renaissance Italy for political structure). All this would lead through Heroic Tier where they fight the minions and find more information about this ruler and finally confront him in early Paragon Tier and slay the wicked vampire who has apparently been the centre of this whole thing.

But wait, there's more! As it turns out, the vampire was working for a whole organization of the undead that is growing in political influence throughout the mortal realm. Much of Paragon tier would be spent tracking down agents of this organization throughout society and killing them. Agents of this organization would included necromancers, wanna-be liches, liches, and other free-willed undead (and their lackeys). Finally, they would start to really worm their way into finding out more information on the leadership, a triumverate of liches who aim to rule the world.

But wait! There's still more! Upon stopping them, they'd find that they too were acting on behalf of another agent, again a lich. But this one has all along been using the political manoeverings to create more strife and death, in aid of a ritual to gain even more power which he hopes to use to defeat and replace Orcus. For their final conflict, they would (if they chose to accept it) the aid of Orcus against their common enemy. Fun moral dilemmas there, and of course inevitable betrayal if they accept his aid.

Ideas? Suggestions? Am I being too ambitious, or not ambitious enough?
