| #1Xaielao2Jan 07, 2010 15:25:41 | A google images search doesn't bring anything up so I figure'd I'd post here. I've got an adventure coming up at Kalton Manor (my players want a good home base and after some discussion they all settled on cleaning up Kalton Manor and using it themselves.) From there I'll be launching them into a plot where they will come up against the circle of hags that lord over the denizens of the Witchlight fens and I'll be hinting towards this with a handout that consists of a map of the witchlight fens. So anyone know where I can find this map or heard of any artistically minded who have perhaps created a more detailed map (not including the map of the vale as a whole?) I could make a map myself but it wouldn't look remotely as nice as one made by someone with talent in cartogaphy as some in this and other forums are. |
| #2vman3forceJan 07, 2010 17:11:37 | i'd love to make one for you. if you post a rough map of the features you want in the region, i'll see what i can do. PS - im pretty sure no one at WoTC has mapped it yet, other than in the back of the DMG. |
| #3Xaielao2Jan 08, 2010 14:16:18 | Well I have zero skill with photoshop or anything so I cant really give you a rough map (if I did this myself it would be with pensil on grid-paper hehe), but I can give you an idea of what I'm looking for. I'll trust your own creative judgement in making the map. And many thanks for offering to make the map for me in the first place. The Witchlight Fens is a flood plain that partly dries up during the dry season and likely freezes over in the winter. So it's likely to have a lot of trees and muddy water with thick undergrowth and 'islands' of land here and there above the water, maybe with clumps of dead or dying trees nearby. In terms of what to put 'in' the fen. The Nentir River flows through it but unlike the Nentir Vale map it doesn't have a clearly defined riverbed but rather just opens to the flood plane. In my game world the swamp closes up at the south boarder of the map, the two forests on the map close in together and becomes a regular river again that quickly empties out to the sea. Theres a small port city built around the rivers mouth as well. Theres a significant 'fey' presence in the fens, so an old ruined eladrin settlment has moved into the mortal realm semi-permantly and is located somewhere near the middle of the fen. As I've said I plan on having a circle of Hags who rule over the Witchlight Fens so perhaps they have taken the eladrin settlment as their base of opporations. There are also tribes of werewolves and trolls in the fens so there's a variety of small caves they use for lairs. Also I plan on having a semi-civilized village on the edge of the vale, perhaps near one of the tributaries of the Nentir River (though I've not decided the exact details of the sight. I've already found a nice swamp village map for them but if you want to mark its location on your map, thats fine (though not necessary.) You don't need to go into exact detail on the fen and its locals and remember this is going to be a player handout so keep that in mind when making map markings or such (don't mark the location of a ruin that says 'Lair of the Hags' or something, but rather 'unexplored eladrid ruin', etc. Thanks again for your offer. Looking forward to seeing the results. PM me if you need any more info or what not.edit: Oh heres the swamp village I'm using. | #4LFKJan 09, 2010 13:37:56 | Here's a battle-mat I used for a fight in the Witchlight Fens.![]() If you want/care I could get you a copy of the PDF somehow. |
| #5Xaielao2Jan 09, 2010 17:32:25 | Thats great for a focused battle. I can take that screenshot and easily blow it up and use posterazor to create a battle mat out of it with ease. That'll be great to use for a specific battle or two. Thanks a bunch. ![]() |

| #9Xaielao2May 29, 2011 16:45:46 | Ah man looks great. Thanks so much. I'm gonna take the print to a store a friend of mine runs and get a nice big print of it. My players will love it. |
| #10vman3forceMay 30, 2011 22:15:24 | ![]() Finished Map. I probably wouldnt blow it up more than 140%, otherwise your print might get a little pixelated. Hope this comes in handy and let me know if you need any other maps done, Im trying to build up my skills. |
