The setting is based on Ireland circa 1000 AD, of course I've thrown any sense of history out the window for fun's sake. Some of my campaign background... On the island of Annan, the descendants of the ancient ones have formed tribes and clans, seperated from each other, always at war. Meanwhile, the arrival of the dwarves and men from the south have increased the nation's tensions. Now, ages past, a strange race of men have spread from the East, into endless clans across the island, and the descendents of the Monsidhe, the elves, are now outnumbered slightly by men. The monsidhe have been lost to time, although some believe they merely live between the worlds. The nation is now populated by many races. The men of Cealla brought with them their adherence to the will of Bahamut the Platinum, a benevolent dragon god who protects his children, while the Dwarves have brought with them Moradin. Corellon and Morigan are the dual gods of the children of the Monsidhe, with high elves holding Morigan in a higher regard. There are some in the high elf society who hold to an older, more mystical belief. These beliefs are falling out of favor to the aggression of conversion to Bahamut and Moradin. At the time of the campaign, the tribes are being united under the banner of great warriors, who have somehow managed to gather all of the races together to face the fear of a powerful being to the south, a great worker of magic who has gathered an army to challenge the great nations to the south, with aspirations to become a God. While there are many of these new warlords, one high elf holds the most promise, centered in the trading post of Blackmore. Not only is the threat across the sea, however. The fearsidhe, mischievious and vile creatures continue to work their magic on unsuspecting men, with a malice aimed at the "second comers" to the island. Perhaps underneath the barrows, the elves may learn the truth of their origins... |
