Updated: 6/27/10

"Lords of Creation” is one of the most addictive forum games you’ll ever encounter. You might recall one of the earlier versions here on these boards. If you saw it and wanted to join but the collective history was too daunting, fear not; now is your chance. This is a play-by-post cooperative world-building game in which the players take on the role of gods, with the full powers and influence thereof. The goal of this is to produce a campaign world complete with history, pantheon, geography, races, creatures, and anything you could possibly imagine. One of the best elements is that the world is entirely organic; ancient wars, cultural growth, and divine conflicts are actually the result of warring interests, rather than being pulled whole cloth from a single person’s imagination. This provides diversity that you just can’t find anywhere else. And of course, we have a LOT of fun along the way. To facilitate play and later use, we also have a wikia where game information (such as homebrew races, maps, classes, etc) will be posted: The Wiki

You can find the rules here: The Rules on Wiki
And we also ask that you read these basic guidelines: Guidelines

The full set of rules may also be downloaded from : The Full Rules

There is also a group for the game, which hosts in-world PbPs, discussions and important news broadcasts:  community.wizards.com/lordsofcreation

Finally, many of us chat on and off about the game or other random things at

Krika

May 19, 2010 15:30:20
Name: Karak
Greater Domain: Corruption
Moderate Domains (up to 2): Luck, Games
Lesser Domains (up to 4): Aberrations, Grafts, Improvements, Symbiotes
Physical Appearance: He appears as a floating mass of undefined "stuff" at the beginning. As he finds advantageous physcial characteristics in creature's/races, his body will unconsiously mold to add them. Eventually he will look like a rather strange comglomerate of a bunch of races and creatures.
Symbol: Those who profess their faith in him do so by the grafts and symbiotes that he gifts his faithful with.
Personality/Core Concept: His greatest joy is to improve the creations of others. However, his idea of what is an improvement is somewhat macabre and disturbing.

Plane of Origin: Culthet

So, yeah, everybody, I'm interested, just in case you didn't know.

Name: The Monarch Queen

Major: Death
Moderate: Light, Extravagance
Minor: Dreams, Royalty, Wealth, Butterflies

Symbol: The Monarch Butterfly pattern. It can be incorporated into anything the worshipper wishes, and in fact, the more eccentric and extravagant the manner in which they do so, the better.

Plane of Origin: Mishway (or, in her words, the Flower Pot)

Appearance: The Queen resembles a somewhat plump sort of woman who isn’t necessarily old, but certainly getting on in years. While no wrinkles mar her round face, her hair is white and her body is by no means spry. But to really define the Queen’s appearance, one must merely look to the word that says it all: extravagance. The Queen wears huge ball gowns so cumbersome, she can barely complete even the simplest tasks, and in fact has difficulty with even base mobility. Her hair is piled high upon her head in a tall beehive of sculpted waves and curls so shiny and stiff, it appears as though a thick lacquer has been painted over it. But if that seems extravagant, that is nothing compared to the accessories she piles on. Necklaces hung with diamonds the size of a child’s fist circle her neck and her nails are not painted with nail polish, but rather studded with tiny gemstones. Though the general “theme” of her outfits vary greatly, the Queen has been known to wear such things as actual flowers, not only in her hair, but upon her dress too, and not just small ones, but rather vast sunflowers and huge orchids. She has even been known to wear living animals as accessories.

Concept: The Monarch Queen is an eccentric fairy-queen/rich British socialite and monarch rolled together with a Broadway diva and shepherd of the dead with a splash of Tim Burton-y goodness for good measure. She is off-kilter and weird and teaches her followers that, if they are extravagant enough in their mortal lives, she will throw a huge, British socialite dinner/tea party in their honour should they ever happen to expire. Then, after the party, should they so choose, they may “retire to the lounge” and, in essence, pass on for good.

Name: Davos, The Aristocrat, The Worm

Greater: Knowledge

Moderate: Strategy, Decay

Lesser: Architecture, Aristocracy, Books, Avarice

Plane of Origin:  Culthet

Appearance: An immense, malignant worm, pallid and mold white calls itself Davos.  Hundreds of meters long, Davos lusts after information, the more depraved the better.  The Worm's head secretes a vicious slime, bulbous blue eyes staring outwards.  Tiny, vestigial appendages constantly ooze an acidic ink at random locations along the length of The Worm, etching weird patterns into the stone as Davos travels endlessly through the earth.

Mortal followers of Davos tend towards scholars who's minds have broken under the strain of academic labor, elites who allow a lust for position and power to lead them to shadowed paths and unscrupulous practitioners of magic.  It is, however, not uncommon for leaders of armies and hordes of soldiers to offer reverence to Davos, invoking devious cunning in the undoing of their foes.  Every prayer, every oath sworn and sacrifice made in the name of The Aristocrat brings another fragment of his corrosive influence into the Third world.

Name: Itja-Rek

Greater: Time

Moderate: Secrets, Language

Lesser: Rogues, Ruins, Greed, Traps

Symbol: A skeletal hand clutching a golden scepter.

Appearance:  Deep underwater in The plane of bleakness, a tomb, a relic from another universe sits.  Within in, the souls of those caught in its horrid traps twist and pulsate towards one another, coalescing into a shimmering, slightly slimy mass around a shard of extra-universal power.

Concept: Formed of the long-dead souls of thieves from another universe, the thing that is  (Itja-Rek) is brand new.  However, the conciousnesses of those dead souls that make up his body sometimes come to the surface, and as a whole has instilled a tendency to... acquire... things.

Aldii

May 19, 2010 16:30:20
Name: Djaf

Major: Death
Moderates: Spirits, After-life
Minors: Swords, Butterflies, Gardens and Endings.

Appearance: The God of Death has many forms and will shift between them as the ages pass. His first and true form though is a winged man. No dress will cover his body at he enters the world. His body frail, pale and malnourished. His eyes will shine white and pure and his hair will be dark as the night sky. His wings will reach far and wide, five times the size of his body. Black as the night they will be and half-hidden amongst it´s feathers tiny stars will shimmer.

A robe will then appear. A garb fitting a man of finest breed. Silvery embrodery flooding down long arms, painting pictures of tiny flowers made my purest silver, birds in flight at his shoulders, a closed gate with three bars at his chest and a downspour of silvery rain under it. A crown will form upon his head made by finest silver shaped by an immmortal´s will.

Personality: Djaf is an agent of order. He has a purpose in this world and that purpose is to protect the souls of the mortal creatures he knows will come and deliver them to what awaits beyond this world. Other then that his purpose and meaning is a blank card that lacks opinions, goals and memories of what was he before he entered the world. If there even was a before.

Totem Animal: Butterfly

Totem tree: Elder Tree

Totem flower: True Forget-me-not

Colour of choice: Dark blue

Symbol: A gate with three bars.

Name: Sonnet | Syreene

Major: The Seasons
Moderate: Destiny, Fey
Minor: Weather, Beginnings, Music, Stars

Plane of Origin: Mishway

Appearance: The God of Seasons changes with its domain. In the Spring, she is Syreene, gradually changing over the course of the summer into the masculine Sonnet come autumn, once more changing to Syreene over the course of the winter, the change becoming complete once more in spring.

Personality: As Sonnet, he is aloof and thoughtful. As Syreene, she is warm and loving.

Symbol: A segmented half-circle starburst of 4 colors (turquoise, green, red, white)

Name: Caltabactos
World: Mishway (Will change if necesary)

Major: Change
Moderates: Luck, Dreams
Minors: Insanity, Desire, Music, Capriciousness

Appearance: Constantly changing, but if humanoid, he is always male with pure white skin. His three favorite forms are:
1. A 4-digit hand that's gold and spikey. Continuously flexes its fingers, almost in a way that makes it seem like it is plotting something.
2. A naked man with gleaming violet eyes and long, purple hair carring a red walking staff. The staff is in a double-helix shape that converges at either end. The man is always grinning as if something is off.
3. An old man with white hair reaching down to his ankles. He carries a dagger in his left hand, and has billowing black robes have shining white dots like stars. His face is always stoic in this form.

Personality: Caltabactos is completely and utterly insane. The specifics of his personality are dependent on his form
1. While a hand, Caltabactos never speaks, which makes it seem the most reasonable in this form. It points and gesticulates in a way that any other divine beings could understand its intentions by the way it points.
2. In his younger form, Caltabactos speaks almost completely nonsensically to anyone speaking with him, sometimes abruptly saying something logical, but then reverting to his strange speech patterns. In this form he is excitable and inventive, wanting to create new things, and see how it affects other populations.
3. In his older form, Caltabactos is in an almost-constant ramble about things that make almost no sense. He is very irritable in this form, especially if anyone interrupts his rants on nothing. When in this form, he is more focused on doing tasks that increase his standing in the world.

Symbol: An infinity sign, imperfectly drawn.

Concept: Completely insane, but has a strange intelligence to him. I somewhat want him to be involved in connecting the two worlds.

AnubisDread

May 19, 2010 17:35:33
Name: The Mother

Major: Nature
Moderates: Insects, Community
Minors: Family, Hunger, Birth, Poison

Appearance: The Mother has two forms. Her 'true' form is a huge insect queen, with a bloated stomach squirming with eggs, puss drooling down her grotesque form. She bears resemblance to no insect in particular, rather seems to take parts of all of them to form some kind of grotesque horrible hybrid of all of them.
The second is a far smaller, human sized even humanoid form that looks a little like if a succubus was also an insect... an alluring, beautiful form that draws eyes and captures hears.
The Mother is under the impression both forms are equally beautiful, after all, they're both her. She acknowledges some races and individuals prefer one over the other however.

Personality: The Mother has very simple motivation: eat, breed, and protect her children. The world is her hive, and all the things she creates upon it are her children. Of course sometimes her children die, or are killed by others, it is the nature of things... in the same way a queen ant is not remiss when it's larva is eaten or one of it's workers goes astray, neither does The Mother care is some of her creations are wiped out. If, however, something were to threaten her very hive or an entire race or kind of her creations, her fury can be so great it can only be described as a natural disaster.
The Mother is also vain in the extreme... she believes herself to be among the most beautiful of creations, after all anyone who can create such beautiful children must be beautiful herself after all. She takes pride in her creations, beast or race, and values the simpleness of family and community... and loathes those that seek to undermine it.

Symbol: An large winged ant surrounded by a circle of inter-joined worker ants.

He trusts no one, always has several elaborate schemes to exert his will on the world, and never, EVER lets all of his secrets out of his mind. he is willing to help other gods, but always makes sure they put up collateral.

Name: Absalom, The Divine Muse

Greater Domain: Beauty

Moderate Domains (up to 2): Inspiration, Art

Lesser Domains (up to 4): Truename Magic, Literature, Theatre, Music

Physical Appearance: Upon birth Absalom takes on no definitive concrete form, instead allowing the world around him to flourish and form until he finds inspiration.  In the meantime, Absalom exists as a cloud of energy that has characteristics simultaniosly possessed by all four stages of matter, within which flows and dances an ever changing series of patterns and colors that reflect the thoughts and moods of the Deity.

Symbol: The double double white alabaster masks of Comedy and Tragedy sitting back to back with each other.

Personality/Core Concept: Absalom is a God devoted to the Platonic sense of beauty that can be found in all things, though at different stages in his existence he might come to emphasize different aspects of it over others.

Name: Ordek
Greater Domain: Fate
Moderate Domains (up to 2): War, Violence.
Lesser Domains (up to 4):
 Victory, Swamps, Vengeance.
Physical Appearance: In his natural form, Ordek appears as a shapeable ball of pale, almost ghostly light.  This light can be shaped into whatever shape Ordek wills it to be. The light itself is pale and does not generally cast much illumination. Ordek can also manifest himself in a humanoid shape which appears as a robed figure with a hat and walking stick, almost like a normal traveler. Almost, save for the fact that he is missing one eye and his only remaining eye is pale, looking almost exactly the same as his true form.
Symbol: A single flame surrounded by a black background.
Personality/Core Concept: When the universe was formed, there was an initial violent thought. From this thought, Ordek was created. Representing violence and the swamps he makes his home, Ordek believes that violence is the best thing ever and will do anything to cause it. He does not take sides in any conflict; rather, he simply instigates it and either watches or participates while secretly serving both sides. He also is the patron of Fate, especially when applied to war, and views himself as an instrument of fate in any conflict.

A word on admissions:

It's awesome that everyone is so psyched to get involved with this game. That's great.

We're not going back to the "domain broadcast, whoever gets it gets it method" we had last game, but we are going to try and gradually sprinkle in players rather than throw everyone in at once.

The important thing is, if you're interested in joining, POST IN THIS THREAD. When we're ready to add new players, we'll use the order of the posts in this thread*.

*As you may have gathered, we're trying something new this game with the "Dual Worlds" morphology. As long as the worlds remain split (before the titular WorldWarp), admins reserve the right to delay players from joining if their arrival would skew the population distribution too much. After the WorldWarp, this won't be an issue.

Generally, we will accept people on Sundays. For more information on what that means for your personal ascensions, please consult the wiki.

Domains
Greater:  Insects

Physical Appearance
A large, brown, eyeless slug with violet suppurating sacs on it's body.  All gross and slick with slugjuice it burrows out of sight once it's born, using a proxy to carry out it's will.

Symbol
A hexagon circumscribed about a square.

Personality/Core Concept
It is a reclusive beast with an agenda and quickly uses the pheromones it secrets from it's sacs to influence the minds of mortals to do it's will.  It doesn't want to be trapped in this form forever and longs for a more beautiful existence rather than it's current repulsive appearance.

Welcome aboard, Kal!

Huh, looks like we have mostly old-hands, aside from you. Oh well, I hope you'll have fun.

Anywho, down to business.

Name: Harkon Armal

Domains
Greater:
Water
Moderate: Civilization, Travel
Lesser: Forests, Caverns, Wind, Rain

Symbol: A spear being thrown into water. This is most commonly reduced a line representing the spear intersecting a wavy line that represents the water.

Appearance: A featureless globe of clear water

Starting Plane: Culthet

Concept: I will generally be working with a theme of "development" for Harkon. He will be starting out as a boring globe of water, but his physical appearance will evolve throughout the game, and I will be trying to have his personality and domains evolve as well. I suppose this is a little bit of a throwback to older LoC games, though in this particular case I have a decent idea of where I will be heading with him. The domains listed in italics above are ones that for the intent of RPing I will be "adding" latter; Harkon will only envision himself as "water" at first, though I hope to be maneuvering him towards the other domains over time. Those aren't set in stone, however, as he will be influenced by those around him.

EDIT: Oh, do we still need to PM the admins or is this enough for now?

Nice to feel the warm welcome to a newcomer. Can't wait until Sunday so I can start.

Been reading over the wiki that Thought's been so kind as to update. I don't know if Thought has caught this during the editting process, but I've noticed that Mishway has two gods with the major domain of Death. Now I realize that it's not on a "first come, first serve" basis anymore, but this is going to cause a bit of confusion. Hopefully this can be resolved peacefully, or we may just get to test out those divine conflict rules.

Yes, both Ara and Aldii wanted to play gods of death in the same world. (Oddly enough they also have butterflies).

It is okay to have repeat domains, though as long as the two players can work it out peacefully, and neither Aldii nor Ara are known for being impossible to reason with Smile

Name: Daxos
Domains:
Greater: Darkness
Moderate: Nightmares, Wilderness
Lesser: Fear, Hunters, Courage, Challenges.
Starting Plane: Mishway

Daxos is a considered by many a dark malicious god, or a powerful and uncaring faerie lord, he rule the darkness of night, creep in the shadowy places within the deepest primal fears of mortals and represent both the dangers of the night, the ones of the wilderness and the terror of getting lost and lone. Daxos, however, is also the challenger, he is far more content when mortal manage to defeat and channel their primal fear turning it into a weapon, then when his guiles and horrors triumph, for the god of fear Courage is not lack of it, but its mastery. He is a god ready to punish as he is to reward, granting dark boons of hyronic curses to those that manage to earn his attention. For him each monstrous spawn that that he creates is nothing but a test, something that, when overcomed, make the victor stronger and culls the weak.

Some prays to applease him, hoping not to face his gaze, others to gain help in finding their path in the wilds or within the darkness of their minds.

He is an entity ruled by fear somehow, that one day all the preparation that he has imposed on the world will become useful in some sort of terrifying conflict...

Appearance: Daxos has many forms, but he is not a true shapeshifter, somehow he is confined by his own domain. He can appear as a thin but muscled man, dressed in fine white clothes adorned with jewelry with dark black gems, his eyes are black with no iris and his ears nearly elven in apperance, his hair and well cured mustaches and beard are black as night. He also appear as a massive black wolf or cat, an hybrid between a mortal and one of those beasts, or a flock of black ravens. Rarely he looks like a knight whose dark armor covers completely his features, finally he can appear as a pool of liquid and oily darkness, when something manage to cut his skin the same darkness pour from it, making sages speculate that it is the god true form.

Symbol: Daxos symbols varies, however they almost always include a black orb or ring, for his more feral spawn it is a white fang impressed on a dark disk with the black somehow "eroding" the fang, for the others it usually is a white shield and a ring with a dark gem. More esoteric cults use simply an osidian orb.

Totemic Items and Beasts: wolves, cats, ravens, rings, orbs, obsidian.

Spells and sorceries inspired by Daxos usually employ components coming from a dangerous beast or acquired by risking something, including personal sanity, chants and ritualized prayers are less common than wilder dances and tests of courage in his cerimonies. Spells of his shamans and priests are usually inscribed on skin (including scrolls) and not in stone. Drugs that induces sleep or nightmarish hallucinations are not uncommon among those who woship him, dreams are the most common way to commune with the god and gleam some of his teachings.

May 20, 2010 16:00:13
Yeah, I think thats the most reasonable.  Have all the souls go to the 'valley of... dim' or something, and eventually move them to beyond the scope of the mortal plane once mortals start stumbling into this ghost-filled valley and mucking things up
#39

May 20, 2010 16:01:20
Sure, I'm fine with that.  Just move them all wholesale into the plane once you make it.

If it is not too late, perhaps mortal artifacts might work better? Those can be "portals" to other places; the "other place" that these portals would connect to just happens to be in the future.

#41

Topheh

May 20, 2010 16:36:45
Well, yeah.  If you intend to have them stay in the mortal plane and act as portals, then... mortal artifact is probably the way to go... if they're just decorative... then... yeah.

At the momen their only effect is a fluff one. Mostly standing there and being mysterious. As time passes I will detail what their purpose is and then remake them in to artifacts.

#48

Topheh

You have two options.  Both of them involve selecting the name of your creature, right clicking and then...

a) copy as text.   You can then copy it into the wiki, but be sure to change the font to 'code/preformatted' or, if you're going straight to the source code, the tags.
b) copy as image, save to an image editor (windows has paint, which works just fine), save as a .jpg, upload to the wiki, and paste it in that way.

I'm talking with the wiki folks about letting us use a fast-upload tool... which, from what I've read allows you to copy an image directly without the whole in-between saving to your hard drive.  I'll keep everyone posted.

I am pleased to announce that the next round of gods have been cleared for ascension!

As of this post, the following players are free to self-ascend their gods and join the IC thread.

Mishway
Mecha
Ritreaude

Culthet
AnubisDread
Wizdude47

The waiting list (post 8) has been updated to reflect these new admissions. Those yet waiting, never fear and keep your eye on this thread. Your time shall come soon as well.

After a god has been approved (like the 4 above), current players have one week to use an ascend action to bring them into the game. Otherwise, the players self-ascend after one week.

The key thing of import here is "approved". Players may ascend any approved god, but not all gods on the waiting list are "approved".
#54

Thought

May 21, 2010 12:07:53

So since those gods listed are free to self-ascend, rather than needing to wait until reset, there isn't currently an actual use for the ascend god action, correct?

Unless one of those players wanted to work with an existing god to create a familial relationship, of course.

#55

veok

May 21, 2010 12:13:05
Correct on both counts.

These first two batches got the option because there are still so few players. Going forward, early self-ascension is going to be an option. They'll have to wait the week or be ascended.

Aldii, that sounds fine.

As for maps... I'm playing around with options.  MapLib from the Lightvoid wiki is already enabled on the WorldWarp one.  The main concern is how we want to go about the mapping... which I'm still playing around with.  Once we get a better idea of what Culthet and Mishway look like in their present states, I'll see about actually creating a map or two... although the coming WorldWarp will make that irrelevant!

With that would 6pp worth of Tech just be three techs? I know this is already covered but I wasn't here when it was discussed. Also, Trade would only count as one nourish [becuase of the one nourished gained] right?

#79

Thought

May 24, 2010 16:19:52
If I am understanding the combat rules on the Wikia Properly: locworldwarp.wikia.com/wiki/Combat#Morta...

then the tech needs to be unique to really count, but yeah, 6pp would be 3 techs. And yes, again to my understanding, trade would count as a single nourish. But Veok or one of the other admins should be able to tell you with greater certainty.

The page I linked to early is mostly just a way to give players an idea of how much of an affect a nourish will have on a population. In the past there have been players who thought a nation was hundreds of millions strong while other players thought that the same nation was tens of thousands strong.

Thanks, Mech.

A question to the Admins: If one wanted to create a "disease," what would the appropriate action/cost be?

A "Thought" experiment, eh? Well, the simplest method is a 1 PP denourish. "Plague breaks out in Middle-lands, killing tens of thousands!" Works fine for a one-time thing, but I'm thinking you're looking for an uncontrollable "disease", that sweeps across nations.

If you want this kind of disease then, you're looking at a Rampaging Superior Spawn for 4PP. Not all Superior Spawns have to be Gargantuan level 30 abominations, like the Tarrasque. This will still be a Gargantuan mob, but with Incorporeal and Swarm. Of course to represent the difficulty in fighting an Incorporeal Spawn, I'd give it the Combat ability for 2 more PP. Then, it needs a trigger for moving. I'd give it a 25% chance of moving to a neighboring nation each week. (A Nourish(Trade) with the "infected" nation would have a 75% chance of moving the "disease" to the trading partner.) Voila! For 6PP you've got an unstoppable nation killer.

Of course, this is unofficial until admin approves it.
#120

Thought

Jun 02, 2010 16:55:10
Actually, I was thinking about disease as in those things that you have to roll at each extended rest to see if you get better or worse. So infecting a nation or populace really wouldn't be the goal, but rather something nasty for unlikely heroes out on an adventure to stumble upon.
#121

veok

Jun 02, 2010 18:08:35
A mortal artifact would seem to be the likeliest fist in that case. (Specific targeting). If you were looking for a more general case where disease couldn't be represented by a denourish alone, perhaps a "persistent" denourish formed from a world artifact?

In this ongoing skimmer/troglodite sereis of posts I would like to remind shadow that the skimmer's are merely a spawn while the trog's are a populace.  As such, the skimmer's are not intelligent creatures and while they may present a threat to small groups of trog's, they are just natural predators to most forms of life atm, they are not an existential threat capable of wiping anything out.

I'm pretty sure we both know that, we're just trying to hammer out exactly what sort of relationship the two have, and the environments each thrive in. At the moment, it's a fairly predator prey relationship, but less like snake vs mice, and more like wolf vs moose or something. Well moose might be taking it a bit far, but it's good to try and get down the dynamic.

To be clear, the Sybilline Dream does not provide omniscience.  It does not affect gods, recording only the conversations that Davos or one of his proxies is present for, and functions essentially as such sensory overload that in recording everything Davos is only able to take in the largest events.  It will be used later for mortals, I'm feeling a race of book keeping librarians, but they won't be omniscient either.  Just thought I'd clear this up.

Wizdude, I think you misdeclined your pronouns in those laws that Hulna and Ur gave to the Mindflayers. Shouldn't they be as per the following?

Laws of Hulna

1. Thou shalt not cease in thy quest to reach thy full potential.
2. Thou shalt not give thy loyalty to others- they are but tools to be used and then disposed of.
3. Thou shalt not reveal all thy knowest, lest thine own knowledge be turned against thee.
4. Thou shalt not take unnecessary risks in thy pursuit of power.

Name: Umbart the Mighty

Greater Domain: War

Moderate Domains (up to 2): Tyranny, Orcs
Lesser Domains (up to 4):
Power, Honor, Mountains, Riding
Physical Appearance: Umbart is tall and well musceled orc with sneer on his face.  Many scars adorn his form.  A skull of unknown orgin hangs form his belt and rattles like macbre toy with each step.

Symbol: A boot on a neck.

Personality/Core Concept:  Strength that has not been used is weakness.  That worth having is worth taking.  To grow is to fight.  War is for power not vengance.

I would like to start in mishway but either is fine, escepally if some one is willing to ascend me.

Once you're approved I'd be happy to ascend you Matthius, though I probably won't describe you as an Ork.  I wouldn't want to crimp your flavor for the race.  Then again, you said you wanted to start in Mishway.  It's worth pointing out, though, that Mishway is intended to have an Alice in Wonderland sort of feel until Culthet and Mishway are Warped together.  Not that a god of War and bloodshed wouldn't fit in there, it would just be more difficult.

I am thinking about changing the flavor little bit.  I realize that Mishway is an Wonderland sort of place.  I was thinking about focusing on his minor domains until the world warp.  While he will be about combat, it is about glory and power, not about killing and slaughter.  While Mishway is Mishway I plan focusing more around creating great beast for the hunt and adding competion to the flora an Fauna.

Will you allow me to change my symbol and one of my domains?

I would like to change Tyranny to Fuedalism

As for my Symbol, I think I would prefer a pair of crossed swords.

As for my Orc, I want to give them an asian feel, Samurai Orcs.

Mathius

Edit, I am willing to start in either plane, but if I have to self ascend then I will choose Mishway.  If I end up in Culthet, I will be much more bloody.  As for being ascend by Davos that could be interesting, will let you know once I am approuved.

Okay everybody.  Its time for an Important Post.

The WorldWarp is coming up and we admins have been working on how thats going to work.  Here's the gist of the matter:

1)  The process of the warp will last one week.  At any point during that week, you are welcome to send either anything you have created or yourself through to the joined universe, but such travel is one way... you can't come back.  At the end of the week, the planes will fully collide and anything that has not warped yet will be dumped into the joined universe at that point.

2)  Only objects which have had PP spent on their creation will survive the warp intact (unless you desire otherwise).  Anything else is destroyed/broken/loses any meaningful form.

3) After the warp has occured, players will have two weeks in which they will have a free move action to move/place any object they have created in the new world (after new landmasses have been made, etc, etc.)

The Warp is coming up pretty soon!

Quoted for truth. Mecha, you're helpful enough to be be an admin. :D

And to elaborate:

Consider Set A (Mishway), Set B (Culthet), and Set C (new plane).

A and B are subsets of C.

I have few questions, And I have a few answers!

First, how is control of population determined?  What kinda of mechanical effects do indirect things have on a popuplation?
Its basically the fraction of PP that you have spent on the race compared to the total PP spent on said race, with a slight bonus for being one of the races that spent PP to create it.  By indirect effects, I assume you mean 'what happens if I mold the land under their city and plunge them into the depths of the underdark' or the like?  Since truly any action could have an indirect effect on a populace, for now (at least until we can come up with an objective standard) they have no effect.

Second, Repeat of one for a nations?
Not quite sure what you mean here, but if its what I think you mean, then nations are handled the exact same way.

How is worship calculated?  What does it do mechanically?
See above.  As for mechanically, check out the combat page on the wiki.
Can we as a Populations and Nations link to the Wiki?
Well, there's a race page.  I'll modify it in a moment to be 'races and nations'

Thanks, that was my exact questions.  I think as base we could count indirect actions as PP invested into the race but at half total, if they directed at one race (like the skimmers) or 1/4 if they are general actions.

New questions

Can a race be wiped out by indirect means, if i do not control the race?  What if I do?

Same but for direct actions?

How do Negative actions affect your worship?

Thanks, that was my exact questions. Good!  I think as base we could count indirect actions as PP invested into the race but at half total, if they directed at one race (like the skimmers) or 1/4 if they are general actions.
Yeah, we've considered it, but the boundaries are murky.  If I make a race of tasty chickens over here, and someone gets a direct benefit from that, what happens to their trading partners?  is that an indirect benefit?  A direct benefit?  Ultimately, every action we do resonates throughout all of creation (oooh, RP-words!) and to reduce the headaches and eventual arguments over what counts as what... we're just going to say they don't count, period.

New questions

Can a race be wiped out by indirect means, if i do not control the race?  What if I do?
No.  It is assumed that the race survives 'intact' and within a short amount of time regains its old splendor after an indirect action.  To reference the above example, the city is sent to the underdark and lands with a mighty crash, but within a few months, much of the damage is replaced.  (Also, if you want to make that direct, as long as you're just moving the city, I, personally, would call that a guide action, not a mold, which *is* a direct action.  Talk to the admins about costs for specific actions (if its a metropolis, It might take more PP to send it below with a guide than if it was a hamlet)
Same but for direct actions?
Yes, they can be, although we've never seen this happen before (although we've come close).  We don't have an exact 'formula' for this as it is, but as a general rule, when Base PP + Nourishes - Denourishes (+techs?) = 0, the race is in diaspora and doesn't have any communities of its own.  At some negative value (we'll figure this out shortly), one might actually be able to achieve genocide.
How do Negative actions affect your worship?
Gods can be worshiped due to both love and fear.  Negative and Positive actions affect things equally.

A race can, theoretically, be wiped out such that the number of PP spent denourishing it is significantly higher than the PP invested nourishing it. Realistically this has never been an issue, because people are likely to either a) find something else to do with their PP or b) come to blows with the god who created (or is heavily invested in) the population. Additionally, there would be nothing to stop them from simply re shaping the race later.

Races *are* *not* controlled.

*any* PP spent on an action affects an effect on your worship, regardless of what that action is.

Okay, with the reset tonight, we will be beginning the process of the warp, which we are expanding to fill multiple weeks.  This first week, the effects of the warp will be quite mild.  Small objects, plants and spawns are free to wink back and forth between Culthet and Mishway (not to the final space, but only between the two planes).  As the week progresses, feel free to move larger things as well, but no moving huge landmasses or anything.  When I post the reset I'll have a more coherent set of guidelines.

Wizdude, a couple of problems with your latest post.
1)  I am assuming that your 2 PP actions are attempts to Teach Populace, not Nourish Populace.  Please keep those separate
2)  The teach action is only for very special techs.  Farming... isn't one of them.  In fact, they already know how to farm.  If you want to make them expert farmers, its a 1 PP nourish.  The Psionic abilities are probably right as a Teach action.
3)  Basically what I'm saying is... label your actions slightly differently and you have 1 more PP than you thought.  Enjoy it!

Nothing really specific, the more vague the purpose of the ascension the better (I don't want my god to be ascended to fullfill a specific role), as a god of things that are unknown (darkness, wilderness, fear) I'd like the ascension not to be "too public".
I envision my divinity as a mix between a force of nature and a fae.

And shadow... really? Futurama? My god, the pop culture references that are disseminating from this thread.

Besides Futurama, what else? X-Com? I'm not sure I would call that popculture, since it is generally counted as a cult classic. Of course, there was my reference to Doctor Who, but I'm not sure anyone noticed that.

I was taking a stroll through the wikia and notice a few things that could use some help:

Angel, if you could provide stats for Thrill worms, that would be uber fantastic. But could you at least take a look at what is there and see if it sounds right?

Karak, could you please do the same for the Shadow-Eater Jellies?

WizDude, the Rock things need... well, everything. A name, a description, stats, etc.

Rit, could you take a look at the Waltzing Mountains and see if it is up to snuff? Same with the Masquerade (and if you feel like providing stats for it, that would be uber fantastic as well)

Ara, if you are feeling generous, you might want to look over the Egg Tree and consider what would happen if a mortal tried to use its power (if anything).

Remember, only you can prevent forest fires... by updating the wikia. I don't know how one relates to the other, but it does.

Okay, so I updated the main page of the wiki, so there's a lot less red. There's a new template for making artifacts and heroes, as well as a mostly-empty page for classes (If I recall correctly, in LoC2, there was only a single entry for classes (by me, incidentally)). I deleted Path of the Gods, since there's no way that would ever be completely updated.

There's also a stub for Aaviz and Siliis. If either shadow or MD have any free time on their hands, we'd appreciate it if you could fill in some basic info.

It would be preferable if all players could keep their god's page updated within a week of what they've done. Obviously, some people have very busy lives, but if you have the time, please keep your god page updated.

Thanks Veok, I want to hold of being ascended untilI catch up on the IC post, since I can play now that will be extra incentive to get those 8 pages read.  I have slight prefrance for Mishway, but is there any one who like to ascend me, again my profile is

Name: Umbart the Mighty

Greater Domain: War

Moderate Domains  (up to 2): Fuedalism, Orcs
Lesser Domains (up to 4):
Power, Honor, Mountains, Riding
Physical  Appearance: Umbart is tall and well musceled orc with sneer on his face.  Many scars adorn his form.  A skull of unknown orgin hangs form his belt and rattles like macbre toy with each step.

Symbol: A pair of crossed swords.

Personality/Core  Concept:  Strength that has not been used is weakness.  That worth having is worth taking.  To grow is to fight.  War is for power not vengance.  There can be no war with out peace.

Name: Clastron.
Greater Domain: Magic.
Moderate Domains  (up to 2):
Moon, Trickery.
Lesser Domains (up to 4):
Illusion, Runes, Scrying, Wizards.
Physical  Appearance: A tall eladrin in brightly colored robes with a spellbook in one hand and a staff in the other.

World: Mishway.

The worldwarp has begun in full! This means the following

  • Gods, spawns, and populaces may, at any time, "depart" their plane of origin for the third, merged plane.

  • There is nothing inside the third plane. It is completely a blank slate. The only things that exist are those things that existed in the previous planes. Everything is considered to have "departed" after one weeks time.

  • Once you arrive on the third plane, there's no going back.

  • You recieve one  free Mold or Guide actions to place newly "departed" terrain features, populations, and the like wherever you please, though you may only place something you have personally spent PP on.

Hmm.... purposeful movement... okay, I'm fine with that.  Your god is rather insane after all.

Slight problem, though... I'm fairly certain that Anubis is heading to where the hive WAS, not where it IS, so... talking with The Mother is going to be difficult

Edit: Veok forgot to include the original rules for the warp as well:

So, Mecha, the problem isn't that you want to warp the grass, the problem is that there hasn't been any PP spent on the grass (read:  a nourish or mold for the dirt beneath it) it comes across not as a beautiful plain of grass, but as a chaotic swarm of blades that lacks any cohesion.... I think thats what Veok was trying to say.

Okay, forgive me if this comes off as a little weird and out of nowhere, but I just read the air elemental entry on the wiki and I have to ask... how on earth do they mate?? Seriously, their incorporeal, so conventional sex is right out. And they have to multiply SOMEHOW. I mean, if they lived in the elemental chaos it'd be kind of understandable, yay for magical elements and all that, but how do they breed in the real world?? Well, the material realm that is.

Anubis says: always write how your populaces mate in the wiki. It avoids awkward questions later on

(Anubis may be biased due to always writing out how his populaces mate in his wiki entries, probably in too much detail. Take message with a grain of salt due to slight dehydration and just coming off of a shift at work. Do not consume.)

My latest post has been moved to the Mortal Stories thread.

By the way, what's so important about knowing how elementals mate? That should be straightforward. They make more of themselves by 'using' the elements and some of Schi'vya's glitterdust to make more of them. The glitterdust spreads itself out over time, thus making it possible to make more elementals out of thin air (since they're air elementals, gusts of wind, or small bits of clouds are all that are needed to make more).

Right now, since they're in the Third Plane, they can't make more of themselves right now, because there is no breeze-- no cloud.

Well, Thought, you've definitely bit off more than you can chew alone -- but if you want to fight both the leviathan AND Concordia, that'll be two separate actions.

And I'm just going to quote from the rules wiki here:

"Superior spawns are powerful, and fight with a base Combat Power of 7. "

So you're at 1 / 14. Carry on.

#289

Oh totally, Veok. As you might have noticed, Harkon doesn't think he'll win. He is just hoping that his nature will allow him to live. And, you know, lure the beasts away.

As for PP, I guess I misunderstood the rules. The wikia said that with the agressor gets a free bid of 1 pp, so I thought that together with that bonus and the initial invested I had 2pp attack power to split between the two. If that's not right and I need to invest more, then I'll go ahead and borrow against next week to allow the action to occur.

Yes, I am borrowing just to have harkon beaten to a pulp.

Of course, Concordia and Leviathan could surrender.

EDIT: Oh, side note, since I will probably be loosing, will Harkon get one scar or two? Presumably Ara and one of the creators of the Leviathan get to determine what those will be, so if they can go ahead and tell me, I'll try to work them in early.

Veok,

Finally getting around to catching up on last week's PP, and there's a bit of a problem with the Casus Belli, namely that it provides 2 PP worth of power, which is too much for a 4 PP artifact.  I *think* what you intended is to basically add 1 to the bid of the wronged player (which comes automatically with the 1 PP spent to initiate combat), right?  As it is, you initiate combat (bid of 1) and then add another (bid of 2).  Beyond that... I love it.

Angel:

When you teach your Death Titans to make really good fortifications, I think thats a specialization, not a separate tech (so its 1 PP and you've got more PP to spend)

It seems... a bit vague to me... you could technically do most anything to the eventual planet and have it discounted.  Maybe have the requirement be that it connects to a chain or the like... hmmm... anybody else have ideas?

World Artifact:  Any mold 2 or 4 action taken to shape the new Planet recieves 1 free PP.

Maybe it should be more like "Any one god using a Mold action 2- 4 PP taken to shape a medium or large sized planet receives 1 Free PP. The god must know that the artifact exists in order for him/her to receive the free PP; otherwise the god does not receive the bonus."

Loop hole: If the mold action creates something colorful or whimsical nothing happens.

Or "If the planet is small (moon), the triggering god does not receive the free PP."
#305

Topheh

Jun 24, 2010 22:31:12
Well, Xeadin... a planet-sized object is now at least a dozen PP, while a moon would be probably at least 4.

Mathius, perhaps make an artifact with a limited number of 'charges' representing the number of chains.  If you want to use it, there has to be a free chain, which you then connect to the landmass.  If you want to free up a chain, you have to figure out a way to get a new chain freed.

mathius78

I like that even better.

World Artifact:

Chains of Culthet:
The Chains of Culthet stretch and grow through all that they touch turn all works on this new planet dark and gloomy.

Effect: Any Mold 2 or 4 action that touches landform chains run thourgh recieves 1 PP as long as the Chains are allowed to grow.

Loophold: The chains are large and do not effect small creations (mold 1).  Also if a god is clever he can find a way to prevent the chains from growing into new sections of land.

Edit: I want to encourage the creation of only one planet and I like the idea chains runing through the whole thing.  That is why I want have not charges and only allow one planet with chains.  Of course this could change with devine intervention.

Mathius, alternately, the artifact could cause a -1PP to any landmasses created that aren't connected to it. Essentially, it would be like the Skyway River in Aetheric Realms, but affecting land instead of planes.

Or perhaps it gives a +1 nourish to any land connected with it (thereby also including islands)? Any land created starts off devoid of life, so this would allow new lands to basically be inhabitable right away. The loophole could just be that such land has to be part of the same "planet" (and if it is part of the same planet, I can't imagine anyone wanting to avoid a free nourish).

I just bring up these alternatives because essentially a +1PP for a 2pp mold action makes it as cheap as a minor mold as well. But, of course, these are just ideas, for you to take or not as you please.

#312

mathius78

Jun 25, 2010 11:43:16
I plan on adding the norish idea to chains next week.  It will be to artifact that way and cheap molds plus a nourish, who could resist the taking advantage of that.

As for the -pp to things not connected to it, I do not see how I could do that for things that are not on the planet.  I think I will take that idea for landforms on planet that try and resist the chains.

As for islands and oceans, I see not reason for the chains not to burrow though and hold those as easily as big pieces of land.

Assuming, per your recruiting post on the PbP Haven, that you're still accepting deities, I think I'd enjoy jumping into the mix for this. If someone - preferably one of the gods who's created mortal followers - would be kind enough to awaken me some time during the week, I'd appreciate it.

God Name: Rampart

Greater Domain: Order

Moderate Domains: Civilization, Justice

Minor Domains: Architecture, History, Vigilance, Pride

Appearance: Rampart takes the form of a bent and warped humanoid - the precise race is determined by the beholder with callused hands. In the case of other deities, he defaults to human. He is startlingly well-muscled beneath ragged clothing and his eyes shine with a vivacious light unexpected in someone who has obviously been a victim of hard living.

Holy Symbol: A simplistic white tower against a square black background. On his altars, this takes the shape of an earthenware tower; in the hands of a Divine character, it might be an amulet in the shape of said tower.

Personality: Rampart is an unrepentant curmudgeon as befits a being born of the worst fears of the newly civilized inhabitants of Culthet and Mishway. He views life as a struggle against the whims of other  deities and the general rigors of existance, and sees nothing wrong with complaining at length about these. Contrary to what one might expect, he is not averse to working with other deities towards a particular end, particularly a civilized one. The abhorrent chaos of the Worldwarp is the only thing he opposes entirely.

Yes, yes, welcome and all that.

I'd like to express a concern if I may. If the pattern continues, we're going to have a lot of separated landmasses without any interaction between them. The purpose of the World Warp was to bring everything together, not further separate it. I'm only going to assume that you're planning to make an ocean in between them or something. Let's not make the same mistake as in LoC3 at any rate.

Also, we really need a map. As usual, I will only bring up the problem, and have no part in its solution.

It might be prudent to try to formulate a vague map of everything, so that over the next few weeks we can proper position things. Going off of my assumptions based on my memory, thinks are sort of stacked like the following (starting from a subjective assumption that Sonnet's continent is at the top of everything, and working my way down):

* Sonnet's Continent
* Waltzing Mountains and their rivers (Sol and Mani are in there too)
* The Casus Belli
* The Hive, the waters surrounding the hive, Caltabac-toes continent, the floating continent of Culthet, the unnamed ocean of Mishway, the various archepeligoes of Culthet, Titan's Glacier, the various  gardens, the colosseum, the Shallows, Itja's tomb
* The twisted Hive
* The Caverns of Davos/Second Moon

Does that look right-ish? Am I forgetting something?
#335

Topheh

Jun 28, 2010 13:57:05
I think thats roughly correct.  I'm going to be spending the rest of the day working on a rough map myself... so... keep your eyes peeled.

Also, I'd like to reiterate Mecha's request that we try and condense all of these things into one mostly-connected landmass... perhaps use Ordek's archipelagos as filler to join all of these into a giant spiral or we use Mathius' chains of Culthet to form the core of a planet and bind things to that.

In other news...  Auralynx, you are greenlit.  Anybody who wants to ascend him may do so!  If you aren't ascended by the reset on saturday night, you're free to self-ascend.  (you start with 7 PP).

On that note, we probably also have enough large chunks of land at point. By my count we have at least 5 continents worth of matter.

Personally, I love the idea of a giant spiral. Alternately, use Mathius' chains to have a fragmented "planet" which the waltzing mountains or some such providing means of getting between them (but falling into the center of the world should totally be possible). And finally, two earthy planes facing each other (as sonnet's continent is currently doing) would also be fun. But that's just me.

There are no physical connections currently, though the waltzing mountains are close enough that any creature with a flight speed or incredible jumping ability can use them as a bridge.

Actually any creature that could swim and/or float could theoretically reach the mountains as well.  The sky rivers are a large (2pp) network of floating ever shifting waterways that interact with and water the Waltzing Mountains.  They would need to be anchored in some regular large body of water to work indefinetely, so the network of rivers for another, lets say 1pp, could be expanded and anchored and several oceans or lakes on both sides of our inner world, which would effectively allow for faster travel.

That being said, the rivers are slightly unpredictable and dangerous, and it would take both a very skilled and a slightly crazy individual to successfully cross all the way from one side of the world to the other using them :D

@Veok:
Assuming a constant velocity for the sun and some hand-wavey math:
Night = 3/2 Day (Circumfrence = Pi x Diameter, with the time it takes it to traverse the Circumfrence representing day; if the sun is doing figure 8s, we can assume that it traverses half the diameter, then the circumfrence, then half the diameter, and so forth). This is a ratio approximately similar to Earth during the Winter Solstice: Assuming 24-hour days, you're looking at about a 9.5 hour to 14.5 hour ratio of day to night. For our purposes, it might be easier to assume 10 hour days and 15 hour nights. If Umbart winds up where I intend it to, there's also a rolling eclipse on the interior of the sphere. I haven't tried to model that yet.

I'm pretty sure we can get seasons if, per Thought's idea, Sol orbits Umbart for varying lengths of time or not at all at varying parts of the year.

I have it on reliable authority that Mani is a radiant body, as are the Waltzing Mountains; whether Umbart is I'm not currently sure, which affects things somewhat.

Thanks to the thing that is the pbp haven, I went and did Alot of reading. I thought it might be interesting so, I'm looking to jump in. I don't know if I'll be able to chat much(due to work schedual) but I'm always able to post when home.

here is the one called Asriluxus:
Astriluxus
greater: Life
moderate: Dragon,Protection
lesser: Courage, Love, Hope, Good Dragons

physical appearance:Astriluxus as he sees himself.... I am a massive dragon. Scales as bright as a sun, they shimmer with the moons glimmer. My wings span many lengths, my tail as long as my body is large. My legs as thick as tree trunks and claws as sharp as swords. To look into my eyes is to see into the depths of the sea. Description others might give... His scales shine with the most brightly silvery sheen almost platinum in color. With a huge body larger than most his wingspan is wide enough to lift his massive girth into the air. His tail is as long as his body. His legs are thick and muscular with sharp claws on the ends of his feet. A regal looking head(think silver dragon), with azure blue eyes.

symbol: A shield with a superimposed sunburst

personality: A seemingly serious person, he also has a childlike exuberance. (will work on over time.)

Core concept: We all have things we want to protect: children, plants, living beings. He is the guardian of those things. He is the thoughts and actions brought about to protect those things and more. Courage, hope, love, these are things that are needed. Whether to use them to protect or to protect them themselves. To love is to have courage and hope. To have hope is to always have love. These are things that are worth protecting.

(best to leave the best stuff to work on over time! must have things to create and improve!)

Pfft, this is Lords of Creation, not Science of the Natural World. Seasons happen because gods cause them to happen! Maybe... if players want it that way...

Regarding day lengths, given that sol and mani have to navigate through the waltzing mountains, and being animals they don't take a straight path, I'd be more generous to the day cycle. Also, once something is in the center of the world, they'll swim around it once each time, adding more time there. And finally, once they are in the veil, lets assume they are traveling underwater, back in their natural environment, and so travel faster, reducing night. All in all, a vaguely even day/night cycle. For now.

Though I have no idea what you mean by "did I kinda cance ramparts action out." ... Oh, cancel? I had to go back and take a look; I had missed the part where Rampart did rather than plan. I had read his post entirely as a description of what he wanted to do, not what happened. Sorry about that. But basically, other than the moon being a mountain/spire, its similar.

To note, I tried to name where things are merely to give a reference point. With no one knowing what was where, it was hard to move things accordingly.

Okay, I spent 3 on the mold to move Umbart and 0 on the nurish, since I could not use the oath yet and only needed 2 for the move, I will leave the post as is.  There PP balanced.

As for the shape of the world,  like it.  I still like the idea of using the waltizing mountains to creat seasons.

Wow, I'm surprised so many people seem to like the names I suggested... I expected someone to argue that they all sucked and make their own heh

As for the sides of the world, maybe we could name them Top-side and Bottom-side? But in all seriousness... hm, I have no idea. Looking at some popular duality concepts, theres yin and yang, birth and death, sky and land... but one of those really work with two more or less identical halves. At least, compared to say, one half that had night constantly and one that had day constantly.

Hm... maybe something a little fancy, like an palindrome. Pillum and Mullip? Darkris and Sirkard? Malin and Nilam? Yeven and Nevey? Xorak and Karox? Okay, I'm just randomly jumbling letters together at this point.

Well, until we figure out names, I'm going to keep calling them Top/Bottom.  Speaking of Top... here's my provisional map of landmasses.  Present here are (or should be):  Poliphas' continent, the Triskelion, The Culthetian Archipelago, The Colloseum and the Red Zone, as well as the open ocean where Ordarak-Rek used to be.  (of all of these, only the Colloseum hasn't been mentioned as actually being there, but I know that somewhere near there was where Xeadin was thinking of putting it.

On Bottom will be:  Catalabactos' continent (the golden forest), the Hive, the Shallows, the islands made by Umbart and the Razor Canyon.  It will be far more... watery, I think.  Things not mentioned in the IC that I've put there are the islands and Razor Canyon.

I'll get Bottom finished tomorrow.  For now, feast your eyes on Top!  Also, over the next few days, feel free to send me PMs about what other of your stuff goes where (especially if it will affect the look of the maps).

Oh, for orientation's sake.  The spire is in the very middle, and everything around the edges joins with the veil.

Well the Godspire went directly in the middle... I just had no idea where the Triskelion was in comparison to that, and I figured you didn't want to loose your mountains. However, since the Hive, the symbol of Culthet, is part of the Godspire, making the fortress on the Triskelion, the symbol of Mishway, part of it too would be appropriate.

Also, a very nice map, Toph

World artifact:

Forge of the Gods:

This forge stands at the center of the worldspire in place nurished my hot magma form below.  A rare place where all four elements meet and mix.  Here is a place that a God can create, but running the forge is beyond even god.  He must have the help of devoted followers.

Effect: The Provides 1 PP to any world artifact, major artifacts, lessor artifact, or exarchs crafted there.  The artifact or Exarch must be one concrete object.

Loophole:  Not sure yet, I want to provide something for Pops and Nations to fight over.

Here are ideas so far

1: Only one group can control the forge at time but the worship pecentage needed to use the forge is low.  20 percent is about right I think

2: X groups can control the forge at the same time.  X = 3+  Must have the highest worship percentage to use the forge.

3: Combination of the of low percent (30 to 40) and multipul groups (2) on the forge.

4:  If the Forge provides 3+ PP in turn all groups there get denurish form overwork.  Could be higher then 3.

5. All groups present at the forge for a week when it provides no PP recieve a free nourish.

Please comment on what is good idea and what is need for an approaved world artifact.

I realize that we do not want a WA that only on god controls.
#440

Topheh

Jul 05, 2010 20:54:03
Okay, we're going to tweak the rules for World Artifacts slightly such that things like this proposed artifact don't instantly scream overpowered to everyone.

New WA Rule:  Any god may only use/be affected by a particular World Artifact ONCE a week (like a normal artifact).  Note that this does not limit the total number of uses of a World Artifact, just the number of uses per player.  So Itja, Karak and Davos can all use the Chains of Culthet in one turn, but Itja can't use the chains twice.

After that... Mathius, this seems like a nice artifact.  I, personally, would go with a combination of 1 and 4, but reduce the 3+ PP/week to 2 or even 1.  Basically, make it such that the thing is powerful, but if two gods try and use it in a turn, its to the detriment of the populace there.  That'll set up some juicy RP and OOC opportunities.
#441

Thought

Jul 06, 2010 8:47:47

Might I humbly make a suggestion? It might be good to limit the number of times a single god can use Global Artifacts in general per turn. That is, if there are 10 WA's out there in the plane, then it might be a bit overpowered if Itja or Harkon used all 10 each and every turn. Perhaps it would be prudent to limit the number of times a god can access WA's to 1/2 their base PP, or the sort?

#453

Aradeia

Jul 06, 2010 22:18:16

Okay, it would be 2 PP if they occupy a surface area roughly equating to a mountain range. But the various levels of mold are based on the surface area occupied, so if you intend on spacing them throughout the whole planet, it's far more PP because you have to stretch out over a much wider area.

Mecha -- you would post a nation for the Virago the day that I have a chance to catch up on the thread. :P

Any chance you'd be willing to adjust that group into an organization rather than a whole nation?  And in addition to everything else, they shouldn't be using Mouthers in their warbands, because there are no Mouthers in the Triskelion. They could however, use the Battlebriars that were created for the express purpose of driving the Mouthers (and other aberrant creatures, *coughmindflayercough*) away from the Triskelion.

Just one or two things:

1) Wizdude: Grow a spine and fight back!!! You have a divine avatar present and your letting your people be swatted like flies, making your God look incompetant!

2) Nekros:  I don't think you quite understand the shape of our world.  It is not a simple globe with a bunch of stars, instead it is two bowls facing each other and bridged by seas.  Floating glowing Mountains dance between the two globes with flying rivers crossing between them, a large ball of rock sits in the center between the two bowls and a bunch of land spires branch out from said rock connecting the landmasses of the two bowls.  As such, there are no stars really.....

Also, some MS interactions would be nice... from a few others. The Mortal Stories thread was made for a reason. Let's all get our ducks in a row (quickly, but not too soon) and start RPing. We have the resources-- let's not put them to waste.

As per a chat in mibbit, the sword which pierced Hulna's avatar DID NOT kill it necessarially.  It did incapacitate it, though.  The Artifact acts as a +2 mortal combat artifact ONLY against Avatars and Avatar-led armies, which in this case basically means that it has incapacitated Hulna's Avatar.

That said, Wizdude, Joran... you should probably talk :D
#497

joran1313

might not been enough to kill him, but enough to really do some harm, that hulna wasn't expecting. And I never said hulna's avatar was dead, just that it had a glaive blade sticking out the front of his chest! (Most likely unconscious at the moment, but enough that it'll cause panic in the city)

Xeadin, your wiki page lists that your god's CORE and DEFINING concepts and domains include 12 greater domains, 15 moderate domains and 18 lesser domains.

While domains aren't mechanically taken in this game, and don't have any mechanical benefit... Xeadin, this is way, way, way, way too many.  You haven't even done anything related to most of these domains, anyways.  You are Balance and Chaos, Void and Earth, Caverns? Tyrants?

Domains are supposed to be a way for someone to take a glance at them and know what your god finds important in the world.  RP is how you gain the domains.  If your god shows definite and consistent interest in a topic, then that can be one of your domains... for instance, I'm about to modify Itja's page to claim the death domain, as its very clear from his actions that death is a defining thing he is concerned about (being made of souls and devising ways to collect said souls multiple times).  I'm not going to say that life is one of my domains, even though it is something I have made, or mountains are my domain because I made a mountain.

So, in short... figure out which of those domains really define your god, and stick to those.  They're not party favors or popcorn to be grabbed by the handful!

Xeadin,

When I said that 12,15 and 18 domains were way too many, that really didn't mean go down to 8, 12 and 15 domains.  Please take a good, HARD look at what you have and narrow it down to what actually defines your god.  Based on what you've focused on in the IC, I can see arguments for two of those greater, maybe one of the moderate and two of the lesser... so... take a look.

Also, just a personal question... why did you name your eladrin/elemental nation Soulshards when there is a PC race called Soulshards now?  Its not a problem, just seems... a curious choice.

Thomas,

Looking good so far, just want to warn you about something.  In LoC, we have a... limited view of divinity, especially when it comes to omniscience... learning names is fine, but in general, its better to think of yourself as a very (VERY) powerful PC... anything thats not a secret you can technically learn or find out about, but you won't find out about it by sitting in a tower somewhere and having the information just appear in your brain because some halfling whispered it halfway across the universe

V,

Oh... I didn't know that the Soulshards was an existing race...

And I had named that because the elementals keep peices of the everforming- evercollapsing gateway to the Astral Sea-- in the form of crystalline shards filled with the bare glimpses of their own souls. That's where I got the name Soulshard from. If you want me to change it, I'd be more than happy to.

Red Star of David- Theyir'Riyeht
White Diamond- Halflings/Ogres
Red Lightning- Fire Elementals (I imagine them being spread throughout the mountain, though

1. I do enjoy Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

2. I can change it if you want, but since it did not come up in actual dialog (and thus can be assumed that the actual explanation was paraphrased), it can safely be assumed that in their deliberations, Despair was actually referred to as "that ominous fog-thing".

A question for Veok, or any admin I suppose: The Feymire Shackles can presumably only be used on one exarch at a time, correct? How does that work with multi-exarchs like the Lynn or Xeadin's guardians? If one of them gets chained are they all made mortal and mute?

Or from a different perspective, what about multi-exarchs that are combat type? Do only one of them have to be involved in a battle to grant the benefit, or do they all have to be there? Or if the exarch looses, can all of them be imprissoned, even if not all of them participated?
#572

veok

Aug 08, 2010 11:32:56
With Multi-exarchs, the thinking has always been "you need all of the 'parts' to be together to use the bonus PP".

So while only one of them may be shackled, it effectively prevents the others from doing anything (unless the others are standing around their imprisoned brethren).

combat multi-exarchs are the same way -- if not all of the 'parts' participate, they can't grant their combat bonus. In this case, again, even imprisoning only those who were part of the fight has the same mechanical ramifications (not being able to spend PP) as if they had all been imprisoned.

And remember, if your god knows that their exarch is imprisoned, all they have to do is *poof* over and undo the shackles themselves -- it's only a minor artifact after all. The trick is to capture an opposing exarch in such a way that their absence is not noticed. ;)

*Looks around and notices the conspicous lack of authority before suddenly realizing this is a perfect time for a coup!!!*

Actually, Joran, three things:
1) Yes I believe you do still have another 3pp, I dont think you spent any last turn which means that 3 carried over into this week.
2) Your expenditures I believe are a little off.  The dragonborn would already have some familiarity with Alchemy, so you need only spend 1pp as a specilization.  Counterbalancing that though, creating an organization like the dragoons is 2pp.
3) I am going to roll with it for now but realize you are not automatically everywhere Shi'vya is.  Veok's attack was against a small Soulshard outpost, and it seemed rather obvious that malice was not targetting a settlement with two gods already standing in the middle of it.

That would clear up some of the confusion that I have, except for one small problem-- there's only one Soulshard nation currently on the Triskelion Continent.

All other elemental nations are not a part of the Soulshard nation. Whatever veok thought existed didn't exist.

[edit] ...unless veok was thinking about the small group that followed the drahken through the forest. But that's not an outpost-- they were still a part of the same nation. They were not establishing any outpost where they were.

Thanks for the update on the PP expenditures, but on the note of where I am, I was still with Schi'vya at the time inspite of us being where ever we might have been.  So when she would have left the 'fog' I would have as well.

Now on the note of posting more often, well I would, but being evicted last weekend has put a large damper on my internet access. I am staying with my brother, but he doesn't have internet (yet). So my posting will be slow for a while.

Even still, if there happens to be a post previous that two people are together and someone else shows up and only addresses one with out even acnowledging the other would imply rudeness, or that that person only has a message for one of the two. SO, in the thing of harkon/armal, he only wanted/needed to talk to schi'vya no need to address me (even though it still seems off, but understandable). In the thing of the golden one, not addressing both would be seen as rude due to just showing up for sociable conventions.

So, while I may or may not be able to post often unless schi'vya goes somewhere else and we depart company (which can/might happen eventually) I am still near her, and I do believe a giant dragon would be hard to miss.

The act of making a group a nation indicates population growth and expansion. By spending the PP to develop the nation, it is assumed that small bands of elementals, virago, and whatever else component creatures settle down into small cities, thorps, hamlets, and villages. That is by definition. So while there may be only a single large city / population center within the nation, it can't be assumed that there is nowhere else where a group of virago, elementals, and what have you, who associate themselves with the Soulshard nation, have settled down.

Unless it is clearly established that a particular group is strictly a city-state, some outward sprawl is implicit.

In other news, I will be less without internet than I thought I would be.

But for all intents and purposes, each god has only existed since their first post in the IC. After all, one of the main rules of LoC is: If it didn't happen in the IC, it didn't happen.

So yes, you could *say* that you did stuff before, and people could choose to go along with it, but everyone is perfectly within their rights to think you're a raving lunatic.

Anywho, while you could allude to things you believe may or may not have happened to you before you entered the world, you certainly cannot have any knowledge of anything that happened in the world when you weren't present, either through not being ascended yet or from not being physically present. Xeadin, post #1445.  As Paladins are a standard class, they're not really right for a teach.  Perhaps an organization or a specialization instead?

Wizdude, two things.

1)  Those sections of your post that you declared 'secret'... aren't really (well, the second one *could* be if you really wanted it to, I guess).  They're certainly under the cover of night, but 'secret' actions are more reserved for 'things nobody else should even notice is happening' and killing and destroying and buring... aren't exactly unnoticeable (without PP being spent, that is)

2)  Gonna need a bit more of an explanation of how you got those elves, there... they're rather far away from Nihiliath and as far as I can tell, the Illithids had no prior knowledge of them, so its a bit... RP-bad to just suddenly be capturing them without any IC text to support finding them in the first place!

God Name: Hirudi

Greater Domain: -

Moderate Domains (up to 2): Madness, Abberations, Dragons

Minor Domains (up to 4): Hydras, Hunger, Lust

Appearance: At first glance, the goddess Hirudi seems to nohing more then a giant coiled mass of slimy, hungry gargantuan eels, each ending in a dragonlike maw. Deep within this crawling mass, her true form is hidden, which is that of a long dark serpentine creature.
She has a feminine torso with four slender arms ending in six fingered hands. From the waist down she has a wormlike body that continues to divide in the thousand coils that make up the rest of her body.
Her face looks like a cross between a beautifull elven maiden and that of a hagfish. Although blind, the thousand dragonlike eels provide her with all the awareness she needs.

Holy Symbol: A mass of eels

Name
: The Seven
Greater Domain: --
Moderate Domains (up to 2):
Moon, Pestilence, Animals
Lesser Domains (up to 4):
Fear, Sleep, Pleasure, Runes
Physical Appearance: A massive swarm of assorted insects with the capacity to coalesce into seven distinct figures.
Symbol: A single flame with several moths flying towards it.
Personality/Core Concept:  Intentionally a mixed bag, The seven are harbingers, though of what one can never be sure. At least one of their seven bodies possessed of one mind often appear before, during, and after calamity strikes and render the will of some unknown power to those present.

PS: I realize my domains have a heavy lean. It's not that I intend to act like a douche and break everyones toys, it's that these are all domens I felt could be used to create telling omens of both good and bad.
