Hello Homebrew Forumers!

For several years, the Campaign and Adventure Workshop has been the home to a series of forum games titled Lords of Creation.  LoC's purpose is to build up a campaign setting from scratch in the form of a dynamic game where players are Gods who, through their actions, create and then become the panthon of a unique setting filled with significant amounts of homebrewed creations, from artifacts to unique and reimagined races and cultures to tweaks to the underlying rules of DnD itself!  The best part about it is that  the setting emerges organically from the actions, arguments and agreements of the players themselves, creating a dynamic world that is far richer result than one created by a single person working alone.

We've decided to move to this forum because we think you might be more our sort of people!  And so here we are.  As a sample, here are some of the things that we tend to come up with.

Lords of Creation Samples

Despair, A God

Name: Despair
Alignment: Evil
Appearance: A dense fog the color of a bruise, out of which two points of light shine like the eyes of a warrior lost in the battlelust. Occasionally the fog seems to take on a vaguely humanoid shape, with four arms, each holding a woe to mortals.
Holy Symbol: A Hanged Mortal

Despair is the god of prophecy and discord. Although he is known for giving the many gifts to the mortal races, these were seeds of division that lead to greed, violence, and avarice. He is a constant presence, the quiet whisper that urges good people to horrible acts. Those foolhardy enough to wish to know the future seek his blessing, but few ever come to a good end. This dark god has no true followers, only tools that are willing to be used. His teachings are thus:

*Cover wickedness with goodness, so that it might be more readily accepted and in turn cause greater harm.

*Never hold true to any bond of loyalty or comradery but turn on those who trust you in the moment of their need.

*Sow discord and break the societies of the world asunder.

I suppose I'll get started.

Name of God:  Altair
Starting Domains:  Undeath (active), Light (passive)
Physical Appearance:  A being of blinding light standing about eight feet in height.  Usually he clothes himself in robes and a mask such that other divines can actually stand to look at him.

Symbol:  A many-pronged sun

Titles:  Sightblinder, King of The Bleached Bone
Proposed Partners:  Life, Time, Darkness, Trechery, Secrets, Order.

Name of God: Kyoaag N'gaas
Starting Domain(s): Time(Active), Fire(Passive)
Physical Appearance: A spiral galaxy composed of roiling gray waters carrying embers of orange light. Rising and falling from the astral waves, like glaciers gasping for air and immediately crumbling to the depths, are titanic cubes of rough black glass through which one observes distant and colossal machinery working with distant booming clicks like clockwork. At the center lies an absence in the spiral sea, and in this maelstrom eye sits a planetoid of thick brown ropey flesh bound into an orb, speckled with burning orange eyes peering through myriad pupils. The flesh's rolling landscape is scarred and cavitated with black ossified pits.
Symbol: A small 8 armed star
IMAGE(http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/2586/yiggaashkaa.jpg)
Titles: The wandering star, the distant watcher, cold fire.
Proposed Ascension Domain Partners:
Undeath, life, death, darkness, earth, order, sun, light

Name of God: Desha
Starting Domain(s): Darkness & Fear
Physical Appearance: Desha manifests himself as an opaque, black mist. If he feels that a more physical presence is necessary he will appear as seven foot tall robed, the robe is navy blue, figure wearing a white, porcelain mask lacking any eye holes.
Symbol: A Black Spiral
Titles: The Nightmare, The Darkness, He Who Hides in Darkness, Vice Eater
Proposed Ascension Domain Partners:
Justice, Light, Ice/Cold, Hope, Moon

Thats it.  Time_Lord, there's going to be a trapped Darkness goddess (okay, another one) that is established in the first two posts, but as with Ary, duplications are fine (although I'd prefer it if we didn't get to triplicates... no need to get... carried away.)   Also, Darkness is a passive domain, so you'll need a more 'active' one as well.

Edit:  Oh, I see.  Yes, fear is certainly more active   Gonna be curious how you're going to work a scary darkness god into a game called 'sheltering darkness'   It shelters... the things that wish to eat you, perhaps

Ary, I've been thinking off of what we talked about yesterday.  Is your domain more appropriately 'Decay'?

To everyone, I went through and made a few changes to the original post (mostly putting in a few more sblock tags). Two things were clarified, however, and I wanted to thus bring your attention to it.

1) Conceptual and Elemental domains were renamed to Active and Passive to better reflect the feel that is behind the dichotomy. You can look at the full explanation in the OP if you want, but the main this is that a Passive Domain flavors an action (water god might create water elves, for example) while an Active Domain motivates action (a travel god has a lot of other things to do besides just making nomadic elves).

2) I added a note clarifying that gods/domains are ascended as needed and as gameplay dictates, not based on the order that people sign up. This mostly means that in thinking about creating a god, try to think of a domain that the world needs, and then build the god around that (rather than coming up with a cool idea for a god and then searching for domains). Since under this it is possible that domains will be needed that no one has yet claimed, when that happens we will go down the list of people who have signed up and offer the position to those who signed up earlier.

Also to everyone: I "created" graphical versions of the holy symbols for Toph and Ara (and myself). If others would like, I can try to create graphics for your god too provided you don't mind exactly how I create them (if it is simple, I might just create it originally myself, but if it is complex, it might be heavily "inspired" by other things). (I'll be posting my god's write-up soon, so you can see what I mean by a symbol being "heavily inspired" by other things).

To Ary, to note, the "claimed" domains are the ones that Toph listed, so I don't think there are any others that now you don't know about. Those are claimed only because in some ways they've been "ascended" already. In the last two games, the name of the iteration of LoC was based on a gimmick (worlds colliding, or a MacGuffin). This time we are going to a general theme (which we hope each player will help us define). But to start things off, the first few "players" are trying to set an example of what that means, which in turn required a bit of planning and discussing on our part.

Oh.  We've realized that the wiki isn't yet up-to-date, rules wise.  We're working on that now, but in the meantime, here's a list of changes.

I had thought about that, but decided that decay does not adequately express the motive behind aging things. It is aging out of a desire to consume and fuel, instead of returning things to composite parts.

I was planning to go for a tough love god who eventually uses manifestations of people's fears to force them to overcome them or the fears kill them. It's sort of Silent Hill-esque. I toyed with calling Judgement instead of Fear, but I figured the Fear domain would be a more primal domain which is good for a new god. Judgement is a bit more of a complex idea.

Edit: He might also punish people for other things too. Like I was planning to make ghouls as a punishement for a race that gives into gluttony.

Name of God: Eago
Starting Domain(s): Time, Fate
Physical Appearance: A non-descript being in simple red robes that fall to just past his knees. His face is blank save for two blank pits that might be eyes. He is rather official-looking, with a two-peaked cap and a golden eagle pin attached to the front of his robes.

Symbol: An eagle inscribed upon a gear or circle. The eagle is often depicted clutching the edge of the gear.

Titles: Oath-maker, The Clockwork Strange, The Tick-Tock God
Proposed Ascension Domain Partners:
Light, Justice, Order, Protection.

The flavour I'm going with this god is a sort of Divine Notary thing. I'm going to try and establish him as a neutral third party, and he'll handle matters of "divine paper-work", so to speak.

Oh! here we go again! I'll try some thing new, and some thing old.

Name of God: Balist
Starting Domain(s): Magic (active), Moon (passive)
Physical Appearance: He looks like an average, nondescript, plain white, brown hair, brown eyes, guy. He makes no moves to stand out, but he's also rarely gone unnoticed.
Symbol: A loom on top of a full moon.
Titles: The Weaver, The light at night
Proposed Ascension Domain Partners:
Sun, darkness, light, knowledge, secrecy, magic

If shadow hasn't taken magic yet, I'd like to be it. I'm going for the god of magic in the moon schtick. Although, this might be one of the rare instances where having two or more of the same domain (magic being the case) wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. I think I'll have more on him later when I have more thought out. I'm just about ready to get this rolling!

Name: Vasa & Vion
Domains: Life & Death
Physical Appearance: Vasa and Vion are twins, the children of Altair and his wife. Vasa physical appearance takes after their father more than Vion, although her luminence is not nearly so overwhelming as his. In turn Vion takes aftr their mother. The physical features of both twins are nearly indistinguishable due to their illuminated or darkened visages. Beyond that, their physical appearance seems mundane (or as mundane as beings of light and darkness can be). It appears that they both favor long coats, but it is hard to tell anything beyond that.

Symbol: A tree with exposed roots.

Titles: The Twins
Partners: Altair (undeath), Light and Darkness, Civilization, Time, Fear

Special Note: Although I'll be playing twins, they are just one god and will count as one for all mechanical and such purposes. Additionally, both Life and Death are seemingly active domains, but the plan is to ascend as life and immediately create Death. I was planning on darkness, but then others seemed interested, so I nixed that. Currently they don't have a passive domain. The reason for Life and Death to be connected in one god is that there is a little Pinky and the Brain in them. That is, their ultimate goal is to create immortal material life... but they keep failing, thereby resulting in death.

And as I noted, my graphics are a little... rip-offed. Some of you might recognize one or both of the twins. I just adjusted the thresholds for them.

Awesome! Now to give this game a try.

Name of God: Kol'Gar
Starting Domain(s): Order (active), Pride (passive)
Physical Appearance: He is a lean but muscular man with staggeringly sharp facial features, stringy black hair, ocher skin, pointed ears, luminescent yellow eyes, and a maw full of wickedly sharp fangs.

Symbol: A circlet-style crown
Titles: The Marshal, Lord of the Blade
Proposed Ascension Domain Partners:
Chaos, nature, beasts, entropy, disasters, freedom

I picture him to be sort of Thor-ish. A warrior god who is honest to a fault and somewhat naive, although also something of a tightwad with a questionable intellect (for a deity, at least).

EDIT: Found a fairly suitable image for his physical appearance, minus the horn-like protrusions. Also changed his title to reflect a more war-like nature. Changed my passive Domain to Pride. I think it's more fitting than what I had before.

Welcome Stargazer! We'd love to have you join us. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or join the mibbit chat ( 02.chat.mibbit.com/ ) channel #LoC. Often someone is there and will be able to answer your questions.

But the basics are: you play a god with the intent of creating a gaming world. You spend Power Points (PP) to perfom actions in game that create or develop things. What sort of things? Generally anything that helps develop a world. The actions listed under the Basic Rules section of the wikia (loc-central.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Basic_Ru...) give a fairly brief rundown of those, while the Actions page (loc-central.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Actions) gives a more exaustive/exhausting run down of what they are, examples, etc.

There is a lot on the wikia (especially if you look in the archives), but you can get your feet wet with just a minimal time investment reading rules and the sort.

Time_Lord, you would see a Time Lord, wouldn't you? :P Though in by defense, I got the female picture first and then went about looking for the appropriately dressed up male pic, which eventually just devolved into the good Doctor.

I fully intend on statting up my Tempora. Invisible space-worms that manipulate time? Yes. Is this my attempt to establish a trend? Yes, yes it is. If anyone would like to help me out, offer tips in monster building, I would be quite game. I let my DDI subscription expire, so I don't have access to the monster builder or anything, and thus could use all the help I can get.

So we're being encouraged to stat out our monsters?
#44

Thought

Jul 17, 2011 13:40:05
Well players have always been encouraged to stat out their monsters. That hasn't really been a big thing in the past game or two, but the overall goal of the game is to create a usable game work for D&D or some other system. Actually stating up the things we create helps with that.

To be honest, it is a little hypocritical of us to say that people should stat up what they create if we don't do it ourselves. Hence...

Though to note, we just want to encourage people to do so. Unless things have changed that I am not aware of, it isn't required.

I always found stats in 3.5 easy to do to but I love making new monsters and junk. but 4.0 is beyound easy to make new monsters in, juts need to know what powers the monster will have if it will be minion, elite, solo if there will be varients of it and if it will be brute, skirmisher, soldier, but the type could be determained by it's powers easy enough  the rest is realy easy to make

Things to address:

MapLib should probably be on the main page. I can't find it, currently.

Rules section still has a "Nations, Populaces, and Organizations" subsection with no text. (I think it's been like that since GoE, though)

Unrelated note:

What is #LoC2 on the mibbit chat? Half the members in #LoC are in there, but the channel itself is invite-only?

A common topic as of late, for example, has been what domain/god should enter next.

Actually, Stargazer, you can add stuff like that to the wikia, but the best place to do so would be on a user page, not a normal page. For example, let us say that you want to create an amazing race of mortals made out of pie. You'd go to loc-central.wikia.com/wiki/User:Stargaze... and start creating away. Then, when it gets created in game, you can addt he appropriate tags and either copy the page, or request that one of the admins move it (though I think only Toph and I tend to use the wikia much, so you'd probably want to ask either he or I).

Since wikia formatting can be a pain sometimes (well, most of the time), this allows you to get things to work ahead of time, rather than trying to figure out the formatting when you create the race as well.

EDIT: To note, a page for the map has been added to the wikia and linked to on the front page.

I was just going to use the create a *** links to make the stuff. As for wikki so far I have managed to prety well figure out how to do whatever I need. It has ben very much more co-operative then these forums ever are. Just took me some getting used to. Did you see the page I Made for my god on the wikki? loc-central.wikia.com/wiki/Swift_Foot  I thought about doing more with that page but decided that it looked prety good as it was.

I figured I would make the pages using the provided links but not actualy add the links in the proper section of wikki untill it happens in game like I did for my god basicaly.

Also when a new god is entered into the game how much of there creation, history/origin and whatnot does the player make and how much does the person introduceing them make. Just kinda wondering so I knew if I could do anything with the history/origin section yet or if that did inded need to wait till I was entered into the game. Figured the introduceing player progbably gave the basics of the new gods creation but wasn't entirely sure.

Anyhows back to watching the IC forum it's like a realy good book that you can only read paraghaph at a time and all leaving you hanging to see what happens next lol

That would be ill-advised. Just because it's not directly linked to doesn't mean it can't be found, especially if you're using the "Creat an X" templates, which auto-tag the created articles with their relevant category tags. Prospective players shouldn't be bumping into articles about things that don't yet exist in the game world.

If, as Thought suggested, you keep prospective articles on your loc-central.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Sta... user talk page, you have all the advantages of having already made the article, and there will be no confusion about what does or doesn't exist. Finally, when you do get around to making the item in question, it's a simple matter of copy-pasting to the new article location.

You can even use the templates from the "Create an X", simply copy + paste the source to your talk page (loc-central.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Sta...) and delete the empty article. That gives you the genuine html to play around and prettify, if you care to.

It varies for each individual. You may PM a current player and ask that they help ascend you when your turn comes, giving you a chance to determine your origin.

Welp, we figured out the next two domains/gods to enter the game. As noted before, we were looking for ones that seemed appropriate to the world as it is now, rather than the order in which people applied. As such, "Nature" seemed like a, well, natural child for my god(s) to have.

Anubis, after Toph has a chance to respond to my post, you are free to start posting. As noted in the IC thread, base PP is 4, but as you might have noticed, new gods get 8PP for their first week.

Boy, it's been a long time since I was a part of one of these...might as well join in, since there's time to leave an imprint on the world. Going with a concept suggested way back in the original dictatorial game, just a little before I got kicked out. A concept of silvery nights and black velvet, altered by time and changing ideas of course.

Name of God: Zeal Sens
Starting Domain(s): Mischief (Active)
Physical Appearance: A short humanoid figure, clad in an ornate mantle colored a dull black which extends down below her knees and covers both shoulders, and whose skin possesses a silvery sheen. She has long, black hair, which falls far below her waist, parted into two streams by a hairy tail that run long enough to wrap itself one and a half times around her, and constantly moves as though on its own accord. Her eyes are the sole spot of color on her, a bright gold, and which frequently glitter with excitement.
Symbol: A winking face, which becomes a smiling face when seen from the right perspective.

Still wondering what sort of Passive Domain ZS should have, if any. The concept is that of a benevolent trickster - More of a Puck than a Loki, an agent of change but who is not out to set the world on fire, merely paint it a different color. Given that, it could be one of a dozen things: Joy, Luck (though this I'm iffy on given it was my last god's main schtick), Curiosity, Passion, Change itself...hard to settle on a "modifier", so to speak; Elements don't fit and I'm not entirely sure what sort of concepts work as Passive domains. Any suggestions?

Chaoss could be a decent passive, more of a side effect then a active agenda

Travel seams a odd ascension domain choice but thats just my veiw and I am very much sure you know the char better then I. anyhows For passive I would go with eather a side effect a part of the gods personality that they don't focus on, but again thats just me difrent thoughts difrent angles so on and so forth.

Chaos may be a little too entropic for ZS, I think. While one of the core parts of her personality would indeed be toying around with things and causing trouble for other gods, total confusion or impossibly fast and strange change wouldn't be her intention - Her actions would be more to keep the other gods entertained and herself amused than to wreak havoc upon their creations, if it makes any sense.

EDIT: Also, I'm not planning on running Travel as one of ZS's domains - I picked domain partners based either on antitheses or harmonies. As a permanently curious god, a god of Travel would make for a good partner for her - the other god would create the roads, and Zeal would travel down them and see where they led to.

Meh; You mistake the intent behind a complaint perhaps. If you wait to complain until you have lost interest, then there’s no point in complaining. The act of complaining is more a voicing of the fear that interest will soon start to fade.

Like any good book ((Which until your in the game helping to write things it is basically a book.)) when your forced to put it down for long, the interest in it starts to fade. Meh; shrugs, I will be busy tomorrow anyhow. Hopefully by tomorrow night or early the next day there will be new posts or at least something to help keep my mind interested in things.

Two things:

1) Can you put that on the wiki at the bottom of the page?   I'm quite certain I'm going to miss some if we try posting it here, and eventually the wiki is going to be the repository of all game data, so we might as well not duplicate our efforts!

2)  You've got two races... which one is that for?

3) (bonus!)   I'll see what I can do about caves... I have the default 'caves' from the terrain portion of the program, but I figure we should probably keep those for caves in general.  I'm sure there's something somewhere, though!

both races will be living in the same location sot he one will work for both at the moment. perhaps we could add numbers to the symbole and just have each person have a single symbole the number could link to the city information page on wiki which would then fully describe the races living there. also sure you figured it out but once the story gets far enough both races will settle the mountain but thats a weak or 2 away still before they settle.

Edit- Probably shortly after the start of next weak I will have my races arive and settle there new home. Will do more posts involving there travels and involving swift.

We should start to figure out a timeline like 1 day is a in game year or a month or whatever perhaps just add  a date to the posts so events can accure in a proper order and the span of time can start to be tracked. I mean currently time is flowing difrently for difrent people who are then interacting which breaks any continuity.

As to say 5 generation pass for race A but only 1 year for race  B and race B was created first this sort of starts forming issues when race a and race B meet but difrent amounts of time have passed for them.

Anubis you forgot the PP expenditure section on your last post

which also brings up a small question, when you shape a race is it a single shape action to create varients of the same race? or does it require a larger expenditure to create difrent kinds of the same race. I immagin it ijust the single shape race but then also wonder if that does not entail the alter action but then I am still learning what alter is used for unless it's primary purpose is to alter things created by others.

Such as for insteance Making a kobold who had difrent stats then base kobold but was still a member of the kobold race, also like with my dragon which is a crystal dragon could later when the time is right a difrent Gem dragon be formed without further pp expenditure since I could have formed all gem dragons at the same time I paid for the crystal dragons?

also yea the forums LOVEs to chop things off I have lost so many entire posts becouse I edited the bottom adn ti chopped the entire top off. if why all my forum posts for this game are done in word proccessor then copied over so if I lose it I just goto copy past it back up

What kinds of properties are you thinking of? There's precedence for a sort of "racial caste" system (See the three caste Eladrin of the World Warp game), but without a clear idea of what differences you were explicitly thinking of, I'm not sure I can further advise you.

For something completely different:

Since we have our first alternate plane, I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to make sure everyone was aware of the rules regarding them. There are two types of planes, regular ones (like the Feywild, the Plane of Elemental Fire, or the Plane of Elemental Your-Mom), and demi-planes.

Regular planes, once created, are essentially the property of the game. Everyone is entitled to do stuff in and with that plane, although people should ideally follow the general theme. The creator of the plane gets until the next reset to shape the plane for free, after which point all changes have to be done via PP and regular Actions.

Demi-planes, in contrast, are smaller things, like Sigil or Mt. Celestal. These are essentially pocket dimensions in another plane of existence, like divine domains within the astra sea. Changes here are dependent on the creator's whim and, although should generally remain in an appropriate theme, can continue throughout the game. In a demi-plane, the owning-god gets a combat bonus.

no specific plans at the moment but some thought would be like kobolds tied more to the elements, or ones that show more draconic nature basic subtypes nothing to huge of a change all easaly represented as kobolds. Part of the altered races of kobolds would have the purpose of expanding the base level of the particular kobold combat wise.  again not even sure exactly what I migth make but wanted to have a sound idea of what was possible within the rules. For sure though I assume having created the first of the gem dragons I would be well within my rights to later create the other gem dragons as part of the same shape action later on. of cource making refrence to the initial expenditure in the future posts. I planned to make other gem dragons but I wanted to stretch them out over a larger spann same with kobalds plann to do a lot with them but wish the actions to have there full effects stretched out.

Stargazer- The kobold thing is fine... the dragon thing... also fine.  I think the thing to consider is how, mechanically, you want to represent the kobold variants and dragon variants, as the way you are proposing would more or less mean that all kobolds live together in one large happy commune, and all dragons do the same, something which may or may not be accurate (eg. if you're going the 'standard' route and having different colors of dragons prefering different habitats, etc, that might not be the best model)

Currently SwiftFood doesn't have an avatar (though I see you are working towards that), so he couldn't personally deal with them, and you don't have enough PP for a harm action, so really there isn't much SwiftFoot can do at this moment to stop said dragons. 3PP Shape - This creates a race of intelligent beings.

Also perhaps toss in a Cantrip to allow the single dragon to see you though such effect would wear off the second you left the dragons side it could explain the ability to interact with the dragon without a avitar.

I would argue that Dragons are *exactly* not a sentient race that offer a combat challenge. Don't quote the rules at me, Stargazer.

In my mind, a populace is anything that could be considered a player-available race, while Spawn is any other monster.

One cannot play as a Dragon PC, hence, they are not a populace.
#187

Topheh

Aug 02, 2011 15:13:30
The classic definition of a populace is 'can an individual in that group worship a God in a meaningful manner'?  If it can, its a populace.  To use the Dragon example, Dragons worship Bahamut, they are a Populace.  Whether one can play it as a PC is less important (although I will note that I saw a book once that described how to play as a dragon in 3e, so, even by that argument...).

Stargazer, its a command or a nourish to cause them to move... a command if they're migrating, a nourish if they are expanding.  Also, please let the admins do their jobs.  I told you this morning that I had already contacted Anubis about his missing PP and Avatar confusioin, and Its a little disconcerting that you still felt the need to call him out on it yourself after I left.  You posted at 11:10 AM.  I was in a meeting at 11, so you definitely posted this after we had spoken.

Anubis, aye, a shape is 3pp, a spawn is 1pp. Were you, perhaps, altering the gem dragons into chromatic ones? That would be 2pp, but as flavored currently the two seem to be totally different.

Stargazer, for anything major or important, yes, god's cannot interact with mortals. However, minor, unimportant but flavorful things tend to get a pass. Anubis and the dragon is a perfect example, actually. Why did Althas interact with the blue dragon? To get a ride into space. But why did he need something to take him into space at all? He's a god, he doesn't need to be so limited. Anubis, however, limited him so that it would be more interesting. Thus, interacting with one dragon, especially in this regard, is largely acceptable. To be fair, it is bending the rules a little, but again, Althas could just fly there himself, so the purpose here seems to be entirely fluff. Now if Anubis turned this dragon into a reoccuring character that routinely interacted with gods, then that would probably be a different story. While dragons generally can't interact with gods either, same basic principle applies.

And you are correct, StarGazer, Swift wouldn't need to use a harm to hurt a single dragon. But to have any appreciable effect on the dragons in general, you'd have to spend PP. Same goes for an exarch. While it could directly interact with the other dragons, to have an appreciable effect on killing them, PP would still be needed.

As for Shape v Spawn actions, take a look at the examples, as those help clarify the intent. Creating Medusa is an example of a spawn action, not a shape. Generally, a spawned creature might receive a few nourishes or commands to help develop them, but aren't capable of "mastering the world around them" like a populace could. The intelligent differentiator is flavorful, but misleading in this regard.

So would dragon's be a shape or spawn? I'd argue spawn, as the traditional flavor of dragons is that even when they have empires, they aren't the ones building them, just ruling. But if Anubis wants to develop them more like a civilized race, then a shape is more appropriate. It depends a bit on player intent (but not entirely, as generally humans couldn't be created as a spawn just because the player intends not to do anything with them).

EDIT: Ah, looks like the other admins say Shape, so I'll go with that too.

As people may have noticed, there was some debate as to what qualified as a shape and what qualified as a spawn. The Wikia was a little contradictory in this, so it has been modified. The main confusion comes in regards to creatures that aren't generally considered races but also aren't really dumb beasts. Here is the new blurb from the wikia:

"There is some overlap between the product of the Spawn and Shape actions. Devourers, Elementals, Harpies, NightWalkers, and Sphinx are all intelligent creatures, but would probably fit better as a spawn than a shape. For some, this might be because they don't form their own societies. For others, it is because the flavor of the race is reduced if it is a common force in the world that others routinely and mundanely interact with. This doesn't mean that similar creatures wouldn't be a shape action, but that generally shape is for creatures one tends to be common enough that PC's will have frequent and mundane dealins with them. If you are unsure if something should be a Shape or a Spawn, ask an admin."

I mentioned this in chat, but figured I'd mention it here in the OOC thread as well.

The type of action should take into account the "typical" member of that race.

Medusa's, for instance, don't generally form cities and societies, but Mindflayers, for instance, do.

While Dragon's *can* form societies, and they *can* integrate with societies, the archtypical dragon (at least in D&D) does not do so She goes off and builds a lair, alone (or with a mate) in the wilderness.

TimeLord, that artifact seems more like a moderate one than a greater one.

StarGazer, your exarch's PP granting ability is too vague. It needs to be more specific than just providing "1 free command action per week." For example, it could provide 1PP towards command actions causing mortals to explore the world, or it could provide 1PP towards command actions that develop a mortal race's religion. You can reference the wikia for more examples: loc-central.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Artifact...

TimeLord, that artifact seems more like a moderate one than a greater one.

Are you talking about the Tree or the Cave? If it's the Tree, I defend my decision by pointing out that it permits a person's fears to manifest themselves as actual entities that are capable of killing their creator.

Veok, if it bothers you, then I am happy to tell you that that was me. The LoC GM account is there to distinguish between when we are speaking as players and when we are speaking as admins. Toph had just asked someone to leave the admining to the admins, I had already given a statement on the matter, and yet you still chimed in, so it seemed that perhaps you had mistaken our posts as personal requests and opinions. Thus the use of the LoC GM account.

TimeLord, that would be the tree. If you want to spend the 3pp, then that is up to you, but from what you've posted about it so far, it seems from an admin POV it seems like you can save a PP. But again, it is up to you.

Right, sorry about the costing things... I don't really intend dragons to make cities or the like, but I see them as being a Shape rather than a Spawn if only so that they can regularly interact with other intelligent races without it being weird. Actually the theory was that dragons would find small pockets of gold, then melt it/freeze it while digging it out with their claws, which would be the 'natural' way for them to build their horde. I need to write a wikia entry for them already

It was realized that although Combat rules were in the wikia, how to start Combat wasn't stated.

Divine combat is free to initiate, although we added that PP can be spent to increase one's combat rating temporarily (until that conflict is over, within reason -- that is, you can't innitiate combat, wait until the other individual spends PP to increase their ranking, end combat, then immediately attack again and expect that bonus to have evaporated).

For Mortal Combat, it is two quarters to play... I mean, it is command action and thus, 1PP to initiate. It is a fairly straight foward comparison of various actions invested in each populace. However, for there to be "peace," that is also a command action. So keep that in mind or else mortals will be locked in an eternal war just because the respective gods were too lazy to end it!

Speaking of rules missing from the wiki, neither the loc-central.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Combat_R... nor the loc-central.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Artifact... pages mention what, exactly, makes a combat artifact (as opposed to a regular artifact).

Additionally, the population, organizations, and nations link in the rules is still red; i.e., their page in the rules is non existant.

One other, minor rules question involves PP-granting artifacts: how soon can they be used? I read that they can be used once per week, but nothing clearer than that. Can you make an artifact and then immediately use it?
#214

Thought

Aug 05, 2011 18:11:35
Regarding PP producing artifacts, they start generating after the next reset. So, for example, any PP producing artifacts created before this last Sunday generate a PP for use this week. However, if an artifact was created this week, you'd have to wait until next reset for it to have a PP for you to use. So no, you cannot make an artifact and then immediately use it.

Regarding Combat artifacts, I believe those are 3PP (since it is essentially generating PP like any other artifact), but I'm not positive. Perhaps another admin will chime in so we can have a concensus?

As for the populace page, all the rules that would be there are elsewhere on the wikia (combat page, for example). However, I'll work on pooling them all together shortly

Ah, going back to the ol' tried and true rules of PP artifact generation, are we?

And as some have noticed, I am back in play

Seeing as if a storm god hasn't been created as of yet, I think I will create one myself (unless someone has already made one, then I am happy to improvise)

Planning on using Fury (a motivator in creating populaces and civilizations based on conquest and order) as an active domain, and Thunder (guiding storms and creating storm-based regions and populaces) as a passive domain. If there are any conflicts in this, please let me know ;)

Name: Agnoth'Hril
Domains: Fury (active), Thunder (passive)
Appearance: Carrying what looks to be a metal staff inscribed with Dwarven runes appears to be a short, stocky humanoid figure-- almost like a hunched-back man in a leather robe, marked with fading runes of similar nature. This is almost a clever tactic of his, because his true nature comes not from his physical state, but from his own provocative mind. He is a strong individual that uses the fury of the storms to enlighten the mortal forces below to seek out conquest in every corner of the world-- even if he has to mettle with the other forces to do so. As a consequence to his demeanor, he is very brash and sometimes concidered a hypocrite for his unfurbished ways. He does, however, have a softer side that he rarely ever shows to other individuals.
Symbol: An iron sword marked with golden runes inscribed
Titles: The Storm-bringer, The Furious Hammer, Master of the Conquest
Proposed Partners: Air, Conquest, Fire, Order, Strategy

Some notes about Storing PP from one week to the next.

First, PP can only be stored for a single week.
Second, PP storage has to be devoted to a specific action (forge, shape, etc)
Third, PP storage is specifically for when you can't complete an action that week.

To provide an example: technically Shadow's 3PP storage for forgin an artifact is invalid, since he had enough PP to finish the action last week.
As another example: technically, StarGazer's remaining stored PP for craft actions looks like it will probably go to waste because it was tagged for creating an Avatar but unless he can find someone to spare him the PP this week, it would expire.

However, in talking with Shadow and others, it came to light that the three rules regulating stored PP actions weren't well known. As such, PP that has been stored up to this point will be given some grace if they violate one of these rules, but going forward, everyone's been warned and so please be sure to keep them in mind.

I honestly had no idea of any opf the rules what so ever about storing PP untill you posted that, hell I only learned recently that stored pp had to be used for a set action.  That said every think that the policeing of PP may get to be overboared, as is 4 PP is very little and when you overly police it further specialy for newly accended gods then you only force people to cramp there actions and pp usage closer together.

Meh am sure admin have a reason for the way they police PP and I am glad some fo the rules were further clerified before admine tried to simply strip the PP from previouse unknowing players.

Seames there is a rgeat many rules that only the vet players and admin know this is a huge issue for new players like me as it gets extreamly flustering to find out that no mater how many pages on wikki I read there no possible way to know the rules simply becouse noone bothered to place them on wiki..... And yet I find this in the rules, where it has been since last December (I checked the history to be sure).  Its on the Power Points section of the rules

"If a god doesn't have enough PP to complete an action in a given turn, they may begin that action and complete it next turn. However, the player must specifically state that they are allocating that PP for a specific action, they must not already have access to the PP necessary to complete the action, and they must complete that action as soon as possible after the reset. Such carry-overs only work for one week." (Emphasis mine)

I will be the first to admit that the wiki is not exactly the best way to convey the rules... a lot of pages, a lot of cross-referenced stuff, and certainly a lot of stuff that we, as veterans, have not fleshed out as well as we should.   This, however, *was* fleshed out clearly and cleanly.  You could say we're being more generous than we should be in this instance.

Toph, as an FYI the Ancients were added to the Map and I selected the asian hamlet as their icon (added to the wikia). I have a few images of them, which I'll post once I get their stats worked up.

Everyone else, I have a poposition for you. One of the things I generally like about published settings is that there are ruins about, empires that once were but have now faded, etc. Unfortunately, LoCs tend to lack that: I don't think I've ever seen someone RP a nation in decline. So I would like to propose that every so often (perhaps every two week) we (the players) either select or randomly choose one nation that, until the next selection process, will "rise" to dominance. After the set period is over, that nation declines and another one develops. The reason I am bringing this idea here is because it is inherently a group effort. There are two key things that the majority of players would need to agree upon regarding the selection nation:

1) That we'd all favor that nation in RP posts (and our gods might even help that nation develop).
2) That when the time period was up, that nation would get the raw end of the stick in RP situations (and our gods might even specifically hurt it).

Does this sound interesting to anyone else?

Actually, I already had sort of plans along those lines anyway. True, dragons cannot really deveolop empires in the conventional sense, but ancient dragons can die out, with their horde untouched in a lair crafted of their own claws. And I already sort of had plans for at least one dragon to enslave some kobolds or other race and build a massive network of mines to dig for gold. It's only really a question of whether they die out, or remains an active threat in the mines.

In any case, I agree that we need more declining things and ruins. I usually try to work it so these things happen without intervention, but having a mechanical aid would likely help.

That way, races without a lot of activity (so guide / nourish actions) fall into the ruins you describe, while those races that stay active stay on top and maintain their power?
#247

Thought

Aug 08, 2011 19:04:52
TimeLord, I agree that such an idea would be difficult with races, and I would actually argue it would be undesirable. After all, humans, for example, tend to be fairly ubiquitous. Political identities, rather than racial ones, would be more useful. Thus, dragons as a race might never gain signigicant dominance over the world, but a nation with dragons at the head might.

Veok, the problem there is  that while that might let nations decline, it does nothing to make them world-spanning empires. There are two sides to my proposal, but that idea only addresses one. Additionally, the RP of a nation in decline is also still absent (indeed, if one RPs it, then it wouldn't be declining mechanically). And finally, as noted, I hope for this to be a primarily player driven project. If players don't care to see things in decline (as well as nations that are more powerful than they alone could make them), then I'd rather not see a mechanic that meets a non-existant need.

Well, the ulterior motive *gasp* of my suggestion was also to ensure that the populace made first wasn't also, simply because it's had more interaction, and thus nourishes, the most powerful.

I am in agreement with this idea, as this has been somewhat lacking in the previos games, though I think in the 4th game we had a nation that rose but then quickly became a wasteland (the Crossroads, if I remember correctly). That was a while back though...

Anyway, I do support this. there may be a few implications where the RP factor may go wrong, but those things are very subtle. It all depends on the player though and how they want to deal/ play out the whole declining nation deal. It'd be a fun idea to try out for sure.

in this I am going to lend my will more to veoks idea, Races that have little done with them start to decline, Gives players more reason to continue with a race, Also remmber that a ruin isn't always from a decline soemtimes it is the oposite a growth can cause a ruin as perhasp the race finds more suitable locations, War also causes ruins. I am not realy for the random race quickly gaining power simply to lose it, though it happenes I would rather more of a solid reason for it then to have some ruinds, ruind will exsist even with a race that does not change as a single city here or there moves on or dies out via desease and such. The reason such isn't often found in this game I think is becouse how many gods take note of every little rise and fall of civilisation. They look at the big not the small and since we take the role of the gods then it makes sence that we miss the small towns and cities form and die off around the world
#251

Veok, that is naturally handled by the fact that the first nations often aren't the most exciting nations.  A younger nation could easily become more powerful than an older one simply by the fact that the story being told there piques greater interest.

Regardless, I agree with Thought that this should not be a mandatory thing, and as such, should not be dealt with with game-wide mandatory mechanics.

I think the problem is assuming every player wants a world-spanning empire in the first place, and second in assuming that you can't RP a nation in decline without making it not be in decline (that seems closely related to the Stormwind fallacy, even). It's the reason I stipulated "nourishes", rather than "commands".

Consider the Eladrin of WorldWarp. They were perfectly content to remain on one small mountain for the entirety of the game, and, barring some determined aggression from Wizdude's mindflayers, were entirely happy that way.

Now contrast that with the Titans of Casaka of Lightvoid. They were the only real universe-spanning race in the entire game, and Toph spent many weeks worth of effort elaborating how they came to be that way (what with their colonies and have you).

I suppose the bottom line is I find it a wee bit hypocritical to say my suggestion would be a mechanic that meets a non-existant need when what you're suggesting seems to be the exact same thing, but in reverse. I was totally happy that the Eladrin remained bound to their mountain. (Actually, I think some of them got co-opted by one of the more primal gods and moved to a floating mountain, but I digress). Toph was totally happy to have the Titans explore the cosmos.

The rise and fall of a race is entirely codependant on the player's attention for that race. If players don't want to RPing a race's decline (Xeadin did this well with the Rathians in the last game, I believe, after Angel basically destroyed their city from within. Or underneath, as it were) they won't. If players don't want to RP a world-wide empire, they won't.

Finally, I'm getting a little bit of a mixed message from you. Are you a player, and this is a friendly suggestion between players, or are you an admin suggesting a possibly mandatory rule? If the former, don't do this out of game, do it with an Artifact, like Ara's Throne of The Gods (I think there are several parallels to be found there, but again, I digress) If the latter, why consult with the players on this when the rest of the rules have been hammered out by your lone foursome? (Not that there's anything wrong with that, just that I don't think you can have it both ways, especially with your LoCGMs account.)

I think I've gone off on a massive tangent. So, let's collect my thoughts.

Hm. Yes. Concise: If you want to RP a race falling into ruins, go for it! But I don't think it needs to be implemented as an actual rule. Just hash it out with other players OOC like every other overarching story thread, and let the ambivalent... ambivalize.

Edit: I totally forgot I already replied to Thought. I was about to quote myself and compliment them on such a good idea. That's what changing avatars does for ya, I guess, hehehe.

Veok, that is naturally handled by the fact that the first nations often aren't the most exciting nations.  A younger nation could easily become more powerful than an older one simply by the fact that the story being told there piques greater interest.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding you. There is a nation strength combat formula for this game, yes? Is this an implication that older nations are handicapped for this reason already, or am I misinferring your implication.

Yes, there is.

But there is no inherent reason why an older nation is going to be more powerful...  I don't think since AR we've had a game where nation strength was based on age (a sign of the nation 'growing' with time) as well as PP.  What I mean is that if nation b is more interesting than nation a, nation b will get more guides, more nourishes, more attention than nation a, and nation a, even if it was created earlier than nation b, will fall by the wayside.

An example from last game is the gnomes.  If you look at them, despite the fact that they came on the scene VERY late in the game, if you apply the WW formula to them, they are far more powerful than, say, the Tarnished, who were the FIRST nation to come into being.  The gnomes did more interesting things in the end, and so they got significantly more attention from multiple gods... and so they became more powerful.

WorldWarp has even more examples.  The Bahenet became one of the most powerful races in the game while other, far older races did not thrive.

Basically, Age does not equate to power... compelling storytelling and the interest of multiple gods... does.

Veok, your suggestion doesn't fit with your own ulterior motive.

The only way for a populace to be the most powerful is if it has consistent investment, yes? So if all populaces get the same investment over time, then the oldest would be the most powerful. Your suggestion, however, would not affect any populace that had consistent investment. The oldest populace could still be the most powerful provided that they have consistent investment. Your suggestion would only affect those populaces that do not have consistent investment and therefore would exclude the most powerful ones, regardless of when they were created. Indeed, your proposal would undermine your stated ulterior motive, as it punishes those populaces that do not have consistent investment, thereby widening the gap between the most powerful ones and the rest, while entirely not addressing the topic of the creation order of said populaces.

However, your ulterior motive is satisfied by my proposal. An old populace would be eligible for players to select as the one to increase in power for a set period of time, which would mean that after that period of time it would also decrease in power and another one (possibly a very young one) would rise above it. Indeed, my proposal would ensure that no single populace was always the most powerful, regardless of when they were created. Hopefully this would be more satisfying to players since it would allow an individual populace to rise to greater heights than a single god could manage by itself. The only way for a single populace to gain actual dominance is if players cooperate towards that goal. If they do not, then each player works on their own populace and, since everyone has the same general PP, either the player-invested populaces are more or less equal, or the one that happens to be older wins.

That aside, there are several problems with the auto-denourish mechanic. First, a populace that is ignored is essentially already in decline, at least in relation to those populaces that people are paying attention to. Second, a fundamental aspect of the LoC games is that the gods (or, at the very least, players) are the ones that make things happen. Auto-events violate this premise and add nothing to the game (if everyone is ignoring the populace anyways, why does it matter if it's power level remains the same or if it declines? Its effective influence is still null). Third, it is directly harmful to a particular style of play: that is, it forces players to be committed primarily to populaces or not at all. One couldn't do stuff with a populace, go on to other projects, and then come back to it a few weeks later and pick up where one left off.

StarGazer, your statement is why I was proposing this as a player-oriented project, rather than a mechanic. I agree that it would suck for a populace to gain power for no reason, or to loose power for no reason. Hence, players engaging in the project, rather than it being a mindless mechanic.

I suppose the bottom line is I find it a wee bit hypocritical to say my suggestion would be a mechanic that meets a non-existant need when what you're suggesting seems to be the exact same thing, but in reverse.

The difference is that your suggestion doesn't care what players want or doesn't want. My suggestion puts the power in the hands of the players.  For your WW example, under your proposal just keeping the Eladrin on their mountain becomes a task unto itself. In contrast, under my proposal, if you didn't want the Eladrin to become a dominate power, then I would hope you'd have the guts to tell the other players that you don't want that. And if the other players ignored your request, then that is indicative of a fundamental problem that goes far beyond projects or mechanics. If no one likes my idea but we implement it, then it goes nowhere. If no one likes your mechanic but we implement it, then it hurts everyone.

Finally, I'm getting a little bit of a mixed message from you. Are you a player, and this is a friendly suggestion between players, or are you an admin suggesting a possibly mandatory rule?

Indeed, your proposal would undermine your stated ulterior motive, as it punishes those populaces that do not have consistent investment, thereby widening the gap between the most powerful ones and the rest, while entirely not addressing the topic of the creation order of said populaces.

The very intent of my proposal is to not affect any populace with consistent investment. The idea was to ensure that players couldn't pour dozens of PP into a nation, vanish for several months, and then return to find said nation (even though no one else has been doing anything with them) none the worse for wear. (Not that nation strength's figured into either of these events, but consider the Tarnish, who took several months to respond to a sacking of Ulla-Dajjal, or the Mindflayers of Worldwarp who would try to subvert the Warped Court every other month like clockwork).

However, your ulterior motive is satisfied by my proposal. An old populace would be eligible for players to select as the one to increase in power for a set period of time, which would mean that after that period of time it would also decrease in power and another one (possibly a very young one) would rise above it. Emphasis mine. The point was simply that, barring some baseline power level that all populaces equilibrium towards over time, an older population / nation is more likely to be powerful, simply because there have been more opportunities for nourish actions.

Another point: If the effect of nourishes decay over time, it means spending a PP for a nation to "bolster its economy in preperation for war" is totally different than "bolster its economy, forever". The former is a very clear example of what the nourish entails -- a short term boost to production, etc. Or, "such and such discover iron, and there's a boom of industry as they seek to take advantage of this new resource".

That's not to say that there aren't some nourishes that would effectively last forever, but, generally speaking, I find those less interesting because they last forever.

It might even discourage Nourish / Harm wars -- after all, the effect is mitigated in a month (or whatever) so maybe I'm not going to respond to the harm with another nourish.

One couldn't do stuff with a populace, go on to other projects, and then come back to it a few weeks later and pick up where one left off.

Given that I mentioned no specifics numberwise, that's sort of an extreme position to take. Further given that an inactive nation would fall back towards a baseline (which I think is very different than falling towards ruin), it's not so much "Pick one nation to support or they fail" as it is "Not every nation can be the best all the time".

I suppose the bottom line is I find it a wee bit hypocritical to say my suggestion would be a mechanic that meets a non-existant need when what you're suggesting seems to be the exact same thing, but in reverse.

Again, I think you're reading more into my suggestion than I intended, as I don't follow how "keeping the Eladrin on their mountain becomes a task unto itself."

The idea was to ensure that players couldn't pour dozens of PP into a nation, vanish for several months, and then return to find said nation (even though no one else has been doing anything with them) none the worse for wear.

It is relative. Quite literally, in this case. Let us say that said nation got to a power level of 12 (which has no meaning, but is easier for comparison than, say, a power level of apple), and other nations were only at power level 7. They're the big dogs, yes? Ah, then they vanish for several months, come back, and while their nation is at power level 12 still, everyone else is at power level 27 (or "grape," if you will). Although their power level itself is the same, their relative power is not. They are no longer the big dog and thus they are the worse for wear.

Of course, this doesn't come into play if the nation wasn't particularly powerful in the first place.

Again, I think you're reading more into my suggestion than I intended, as I don't follow how "keeping the Eladrin on their mountain becomes a task unto itself."

As you phrased it, it seemed that unless you took action to keep the Eladrin there, then over time they'd essentially decline to a totally unnourished level. It seemed that your proposal meant that in order to keep a nation static, one had to take action and that if one did not, then perhaps there might be some degenerate remnants left, but nothing like a nation.

Well, Good! Carry on!

So, if the idea gains traction, is it a project that you would be interested in participating in, or would you abstain?

That's a fair point. I might aruge that if the competing nation was the reason for the power level increasing in the first place, a sudden lack of that motivator might likewise cause a stagnation in the increasing of the power level. But that's a situational argument, when we're really just arguing relativity to begin with (It doesn't matter if you roll a d20+7 or d20+Susan, you still only crit on a 20). (Alternatively, "Democrats LOST control of the House!" "No, Republicans GAINED control of the house!")

Again, I think you're reading more into my suggestion than I intended, as I don't follow how "keeping the Eladrin on their mountain becomes a task unto itself."

Actually, I was thinking of something very similar to the inactivity rules (as to it relates to gods and PP generation). So as long as you're doing *something* with them, there's no diminishment.

I mean seams a moot point as nurish actions have no set effect on a race persay as states in actions you can't judge the power of a nation based ont he nurish acts spent on it.  just wondering perhaps a race has the pp spent on it tracked or soemthing?

Psionics were stated in my post to be difrent from the magic domain going back closer to 3.5 rule set. They also don't draw there power from a weave, They were created to be a internal power source accessible throught he strength of mind rather then the ability to barrow power from the magic weave. Had planned to make magic difrent but the way the game played out I altered the original plan as to not interfeir with the magical weave you had created.

so out of char note that it was a interest of mine before swift was acended and a interest of the gods denoted in his stat blocks under domains of interest.

To of note, Star, I have the Loom set up currently so that All magic, divine, arcane, psionic or otherwise goes through it. So, with that in mind, whether it touches the weave or not is a whole nother matter. Take a look at the wiki for it, and you'll see. Not to mention the fact that You had magic planned to be different when you knew there was going to be a god of Magic and you didn't talk to the player beforehand??? I don't mind suprises, but at least you could have warned me! Well since you went that route, Balist should get fair play to cause some conflict as 3.5 route is treading a very fine line, and Balist doesn't know that line yet.

Also that stat block of domains of interest was to be for opposing domains to be ascended with not what domains you'd like to have if I'm not mistaken.

IC wise, I think you're my uncle, not brother! :P

as for magic, if all good I am open to conflict, Told you I had planns for magic and my stat blocks are much more expanded thent he required I have aposing co-operative and domains of interest all in seperate stats within the gods right up, though I goto go update it now.  but again I did mention the desire so hopefully you as a player are not upset over it, charicter wise though I could see your god upset as if your weave had effected psionics before then swift very much stepped into your domain and flat stole a part of it unknowingly.  Though I planned psionics for a few becouse that form of magic jived very well witht he knoledge domain being as psionics have always represented the power of the mind. but again IC yea I can def see your god a little upset and am up for rping it out, perhaps they end up foes or perhaps they end up great freinds guess the rp will tell.

Hold the banana-phone there, you two. First, there is need for a refresher course in the guidelines. SG, since you've had problems navigating the help menu, perhaps you haven't seen that before?

Joran, we-the-admins have some issues with your posts. Mainly, don't dictate how other gods perceive things or act. Some degree is acceptable (after all, if everything had to be open ended, then a divine fight would just boil down to "I swing," "I dodge and I swing back," "I dodge and kick," "I dodge and smash a pie into your face," "I dodge and sign you up for spam emails," and so on). But most definitely telling someone else that you dragged their god out of their domain is a no-no. Same with saying you dragged them across the universe. You can imply that such is your intent, but you have to leave it open.

StarGazer, same thing. Also, while it is good to have plans for what you want your god to do and how you want the world to develop, you need to be willing to adjust to gameplay. If someone comes to tell you about a dooming doom, don't just blow it off because it isn't what you planned. If the god of magic creates magic to be a way contrary to what you want, work with it. The game is about interacting with other players to create a richer and deeper world than a single individual would come up with on their own. To note, your statblock saying that you're interested in something is not the same as telling someone else that you want to mess with their domain. You said that you've found it frustrating when you haven't noticed information in the wikia. As such, I am sure you can understand why someone else might be frustrated when they haven't noticed something in an old post that is now covered by several pages of other posts.

Although, that said, I am quiet confused as to why this situation became a problem. Psionics powers generally aren't the same as magic powers, Swift is saying that he created a parallel power to magic, so why did you slant psionic powers as being magic?

The carry away from this, however, is for going forward. Since you both were willing to roll with the other person's post, there is no sense is backtracking.

Stargazer, it's obvious you are VERY EXCITED about Lords of Creation, and are making BIG IMPORTANT PLANS, and that's great! However, the problem Thought was addressing was that other people won't necessarily agree with your plans (If they are even aware of them in the first place).

Stargazer_dragon: I can see your concern over this matter, but you are in no position to tell an admin to back off when rules are being streched out.

Your god does not know what is happening or what is about to happen. That is called 'Metagaming' and it is frowned upon in many games. It is not forbidden, but it is not good to guess what is happening based on what others are saying in-game. Your god is an individual figure.

This is what the game admins are here for- sorting out impurities in the gameplay to make sense of what is happening without causing too much confusion. They are not trying to drive you to a set direction in the gameplay-- merely, they are only telling you to *clarify* your actions so that we don't come to obfusely long discussions/ arguments like these. Hope you understand this ;)

stargazer_dragon, cool down.

Thought commented on issues to Joran1313 as well. He wasn't just aiming for you. I'm not sure why he pointed you at the Guidlines, thats for him to say., but it may just be for general reference.

However, as Joran says, all magic touches the weave. So it does, as it was made to do that and he has the magic domain, giving his creation merit. If you want psionics, which you yourself classified as magic (by claiming it as Magic Domain {A}), to be otherwise, you do need to discuss it with Joran. Since severing it from the Loom would need the artifact to be altered to allow such.

Had you simply claimed it as a the Psionic Domain, I doubt there would be any argument from Joran, as it would explicitly be something different. Such a retcon would require mass editing of recent posts though, whic would also involve discussing with several players.

And yes, to double up Thought's comment there, Joran, that wasn't cool. It's all fine to try and pull him, to throw things at him. It's not good to say it worked automatically.

Further Joran, the Weave, as written in the wiki, has a disqualification. You will need to specify combat or nourish PP production. Further, you need to be specific on how that nourish PP could be used, as a general PP for nourish is no longer legal as it was in previous games.

One last one for you as well, I don't like the implications of post #175. The Weave and the Leylines don't do that unless one of us modifies them to work in that fashion.

I don't see anything in Stargazer's posts that seem like metagaming, barring a few things like raising shields against Joran's imminent attacks, which is fine since the attacks were fluff anyways as well as being contrary to the guidlines, as Joran was dictating them hitting automatically.

Hate to triple post, but just putting things on record.

Talked to stargazer in chat. To be clear, for anyone with an interest, he is providing psionics users the option to make a choice in their power sources, either the weave or swiftfoot. So my mention of modding the weave isn't relevant, as he's not preventing weave based psionics, just providing an alternate, which sounds reasonable to me.

EDIT: Also, this can apply a bit to every one. Can we try to post a bit more detail on your artifacts in the IC when you create them. We definitly don't want details hidden in the wiki description.  Stargazer didn't realize the Weave incorporated psionics, because it wasn't obviously apparent in the post, but in the wiki description. The intent is in the post, but the details in the expenditure weren't clear on it.

To further clerify

There is two sources of magic curently

Jorans- as so far described from him magic granted from joran is part of the weave, Weave users draw there energy from the weave and manipulate it, This includes Psionics and all other forms of magic, the power source would be the weave.

Swifts - Swifts magic is inherrent in all creatures, To tap into the inherent magic (curently only psionic but I do have plans to expand upon that later though the source will remain the same only the type will change) A creature must close himself to the weave, Any creature connected to the weave forever loses access to the inherent magic swift bestowed within them.  So all creatures have the potential to draw there power from eather source.

On a char lvl Weave users are more resistent to inherent users then non weave users and vice versa. The very act of tapping into the weave or inherent magic creats a mild barier against the other.

Later on swift will be granting non psionic magic from his power source hwoever this will still be inherent magic.

Personaly I love the RP this causes, In game it is similar to magic in darkson where there is defiling and non defiling magic and users of one source often find conflict with users of the other.

Again I love the Rp this all spawns And hope Joran out of char would also like the interaction this could cause. Would love the chance to catch him on chat and flesh out some good rp maybe even a fluffy battle. nothing real no pp wasted but maybe a elabarite fight scene or alternatly it would also be a lot of fun to rp the two brothers becoming strong freinds and allies, the influence of mortals to spread there respective power source being like a game to the two gods. there is a TON of room for rich RP with it all.

Main thing to remember is that there are two very distinct Power sources the weave offeres a larger variety of magic for now while inherent curently only offers psionic magic.

Also, I'm gone this weekend, so the map will be updated on monday.  You have been warned!

Formians originally enough speak Formian. The language has a lot of glutteral stops and clicking sounds and a general shortage of vowals. It's not impossible for non formains to learn to understand and speak, but it's difficult.

then in that case I apologize I must have misunderstood you.

As for the PP Given the fact that swift so far has not ever created just what he was tring to (kobold when he made his own body, gem dragons when he formed glimmer) I would ask that the admin make a post accending a random god as a acidental reaction to swifts attempt, does that sound fair enough??

If not it is easy enough to go back and deleate the post and edit slightly sot hat the attempted acention never happened and I can spend the 1 PP for soemthing else though seams better to have you guys accend someone else since I know theres a few deserving peoples waiting and fits swifts acidental habits when dabbling with the forces of life.

As mentioned earlier, the map is not updated yet as I am out of town and not near my own computer.

That said, the annotation on the map states that it is where the ancients live.

Also... only Thought's changes to the map appear to have the blue pushpins that easily mark for me where things go... I can tell for the others as the map centers to the space you want, but... could you try and make it such that a pin also appears?  Oh, and one change was marked 'untitled'... which I do not know what that should represent.

I'll be home either late tonight or tomorrow, so map will be updated tomorrow, either way

That would either be more or Shadow (I created them, but Shadow has a population of them that he is working with as well). Which group are you trying to interact with?

Toph, same goes for you: are you sending gems to the veil or to the Woods?

In general news: I'd just like to point out to everyone that there are several artifacts existing in game that people are quite welcome to take advantage of. The Allsoul can provide a PP towards creating a populace, and if you alter your populace from the ancients, you currently get access to the Allsoul's nourishing PP generator (and I plan on expanding the benefits as the game progresses).

In other news: Jormy, I noticed you created a monument/combat artifact that is in your plane. Would I be correct in that your intent is that this artifact will grant your combat bonuses even when you are not in you plane but it is?

That is a correct assumption, yes. If that's a problem I can always add more drawbacks to the monument. My original idea was for breaking an oath to kill Kol'Gar, rather than destroy the monument, so I could always revert back to this idea. I suppose I could also change the mechanical function of the monument, but the way I see it Kol'Gar desperately needs combat pp artifacts. As things stand right now he just doesn't have enough bite to back up his bark, which definitely doesn't mesh very well with his 'hit things until they agree with you' philosophy.

That's mostly because the admins haven't been around. It's not an issue of the chat changing, it's an issue of their not being much LoC-y to talk about in the first place.

IMPORTANT NEWS

We've been talking to people, and we all agree that these games have been going a bit slower than we'd prefer them to... (also see the several players who have said that it is too slow for them to mantain their interest).  So, we are going to go back to a system we used to have Waaaaaay back when in Atherial Realms.

Twice-weekly resets.

Yes, you heard right.  Do not panic, we will all survive... (and if it all starts going down in flames, we'll revert!)

So here's the deal:   The map and progress to more PP will be posted every saturday/sunday reset.  Midweek, likely sometime during the day on wednesday, we'll have ANOTHER reset.  So we've basically doubled everyone's PP.  We're going to start this THIS WEEK, so... you are all warned.

Also, moondoggy... your sig thing is going to give someone a seisure.

SG, I just wanted to be clear before I responded to your post:

First, you are free to command the souls to behave differently. That was just a note that if you want to do so, PP has to be spent. Indeed, even if I hadn't already spent PP on that, you would still need to invest PP. Cantrips are for low level actions, anything that is really small or temporary. Since I would assume you'd want more than a few souls to go to the Shimmering Plane, or you'd want that to be a permanent change, PP would be needed.

Second, as a player (this isn't an admin issue, so currently that hat is hung up), I am not saying that Swift can't have those souls. However, V&V wont give up complete control for something that they consider theirs without a fight. Although, right now, you should be at an advantage for such a fight, since I think you have a higher base PP than me this turn (and thus, a higher base combat ranking).

Third, I still don't understand the point of conflict. I am not trying to prevent kobolds, dragons, or other creations of yours from being reborn. All V&V are being a stickler for is that souls have to come before them for inspection before returning to life. So that would be around a 12 hour delay. I don't see why Swift would find this so undesirable.

As for adjusting Kobold/Dragon souls so that they don't keep their memories of life, that is fair enough, but I should note that there are two things at stake. The first is who, on paper at least, is responsible for what route the souls of the kobold/dragons take after they die. Again, I am not gainsaying your desire for the final destination of kobold and dragon souls being rebirth. But the second thing at stake is if Swift and V&V willl be enemies or not. Since souls were specifically created as intelligence gathering devices, stripping the souls of kobolds and dragons of all their knowledge would still piss V&V off. I like the idea of V&V having a nemesis, but I wanted to be clear on this point so you aren't disappointed later.

In terms of general information: souls aren't the life essence of a creature, but their awareness. A soul is what turns a chunk of flesh and bone into a person. Separating the memories from them sort of defeats the intent behind them.

Also, for LoC, time is a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. That is, there isn't a specific amount of time that passes at any given point. However, since we are creating a world, since we are playing gods, since you've already had the kobold reach a high degree of civilization, and since RAW kobolds live about 20 years, it seems fair to assume that a great many kobold generations have passed. But due to the flexible nature of time in the game, that doesn't mean named mortals from the first generations are dead. Its a bit of double-think, in that regard.

Anywho.
#336

Topheh

Sep 06, 2011 19:07:49
Indeed, time in this game is a little... odd, mostly because it takes time to build up a good RP character, and it would suck to give them up.  Its like my old RP site, where recently (we're trying to get it started again and making a timeline to do so) someone noted that "Well, probably two thousand years have passed, but since everyone seems to be playing demons or immortal elves or time-locked humans... that doesn't really matter, now does it?"

So yes.  Timeywimey.

Kobolds swift made are more draconic then Raw kobolds but that is more my fault for not detailing them better on the wikki a error that I will correctify at my earliest ability.

As for the souls and such dragons and kobolds exsisted before souls they are primarily sustained from swifts actual essence not souls.  Souls more or less infected there form after the first generation.

Story wise swift is protective of the knoledge of kobolds as they reside close to him and contain a peice of his essence, they will be used repeatedly throughout the game along with true dragons and may well be privy to swifts secrets. Also swift might well become insulted as vion and vasa are more or less stealing knoledge from him. Being knoledge is his main domain he has very mixed emotions on it. First urge is to spread knoledge to the world the second is that they are forcefully trying to take knoledge not freely given to them.

Anyhows basicaly swift is willing to fight the twins if he must but has no true desire to, and he does have a point since souls were created after gem dragons and kobolds were created not even being a part of kobolds lives till the second generations.  So for vasa and vion to demand that kobolds and dragons adhere to there will for souls is more or less stealing the knoledge and essence or rather forcefully barrowing such.   Metalic and Chromatic dragons swift is more willing to allow to pass through the normal path of the afterlife but gem dragons and kobolds were born directly from his essence and he is willing to fight for them to remain apart from other souls and for there knoledge to be his and his alone to keap. He is after all the god of knoledge and dragon kind both his active domains overlap in this subject and rp wise they contain a silver of his divine essence.

Anyhows will roll with whatever post you make (used a cantrip action for only the current souls as I gave you my last PP so can't make a command action untill the reset)

Megapost is go. To sum it up, since you don't want to fight, the Twins are proposing a game and a "friendly" wager.

So as to avoid this confusion in the future: souls are the self-awareness of mortals, not its life essence.

Also, no, Swift doesn't have a point, but I suspect that us arguing over it wont really be productive :P Perhaps we should devote our efforts to worldbuilding acitivites instead.

Hey guys, so I know I mentioned in one of my latest posts that I would be switching Eago to exarch, and that I would detail it further. I'll just take this opportunity to do that. I've been a little underwhelmed by Eago as a god, so I'm going to sort of have Vega kind of "be my god" but she'll stay mostly behind the scenes. I'm sure we can all remember Lightvoid with my thousand and one gods, and from that I'll say that I get bored easily. So I'm sort of going to make the focus of my god be someone who is the hand of Vega in the world. I'm thinking I'm going to call them the Prophets of Vega. Basically, I'm going to make a Prophet, play as them for a while, and then when I get bored, add another to the mix. Or maybe I'll end up really enjoying one and sticking with them for longer. They'll be sort of like Saints from Catholicism, with each being sort of worshipped in their own right. I'm going to flesh out the individual Prophets soon, but for now I thought I'd put this out there. It may sort of sound like Exarchs, but really, I'm doing it this way so that they can be my main force in the world.

why not make a ever changing god, so instead of amny figures simply a single one that changes from time to time  kinda evolving from one into the next perhaps even creating a exarch of his formor self each time he adopts a new self, prime domain for such a thing could be the domain of change but meh just a idea

actualy  alcohol actualy does  chase away the effects of alcohol, it's simple when you wake up and feal all hung over you drink just enough to get a light buzz but not enough to give you a new hang over when the effects of that wear off your fine freinds do it all the time sept in there case often they drink to much and must rinse and repeate a few times lol but it does actualy work messed up enough

not to mention honey mead is smooth and less likaly to cause a hangover then a lot of drinks but then I guess that depends the person

joran1313

Something I have found to best chase away the effects of alcohol is lots of water and really greasy food! Drinking more alcohol is only repeating the same cycle that started the hangover in the first place. And no it doesn't chase away the effects, it just replaces them and makes you think that.
#356

jormundgandr

Sep 08, 2011 12:57:45
You're both partially right. A hangover is caused by several different effects that alchohol has on your body. Drinking more can solve symptoms caused by alcohol withdrawal but will make problems related to the initial overdrinking worse. Eating greasy foods only works because high-fat foods make you feel good before bringing on a huge crash, so you've essentially replaced one binge/crash cycle with another. The worst hangover symptoms (dizziness, headaches, and irritibility) are largely related to dehydration and glucose deficiency, and this can be easily solved with toast and something briney like pickles or canned fish.

Me personaly I stick with 7 up and leave the drinking to freinds while I play DD, and your right it don't get ri dof the effects however I know plenty of people who would say it chases them away in other words covers them up till they go away on there own. and it most assuredly only works if your drinking lighter drinks, light buzz rids the headachs and numbs you to the problem while the body gets rid of the actual problem on it's own perhaps my freinds drink to much cuz they seam to have it down to art lol

the ones that are already dead must follow the road to the afterlife and swift can not touch them untill such time or break his word so his command only effects the living, so those who are already dead will continue tot he after life after which swift will collect tehm and rebirth them after being reborn they will act like othe rkobolds and not die

Soemthing in the post causes the bottom half of the page to cut off I had to swap so newest posts show first and even then it causes my page to cut off at your posts instead of listing all 40 posts that are on that page.

Camu, you too. Althought we had discussed that you might take over the Aberrant theme and Nature domain: if you want, you could self-ascend from the scraps of Ary and Anubis's gods.

Is there anyone else on the waiting list that we are forgetting about?

What Veok? You dont want to exercise in futility, and the realization that we are just really talking to ourselves?

I myself are enjoying my little bit of insanity at the moment. Especially when I realised that my bright flash of light that should have been blinding to almost everyone else at the party but maybe two other people, was nothing more than a footnote in one other post..... Yes I do read others posts...

Timmy, if you want you can pm me your god concept, and I'm sure I can ascend you, for I'm fairly certain the admins will not have an issue.

Nope, no issue from the admins.

I think that in part it is a matter of time/attention and narrative... we all have had our posts skipped over for various reasons at one time or another (the three options I listed being the major reasons I've heard cited).  It happens to everyone... if your post was that important to you, you can either post in the OOC or continue with it in the IC... by and large people will realize that you want it addressed if you refer to it again.

I think the real problem was the post storm that happened where there was a ton of posts in fast sucession where often times your post would hit just before 2 or 3 others of just after them when it was ment before was definatly a super busy part with 3 or 4 difrent things kinda merging together I responded to as much as I could within reason but a god can only react to so much I am sure many others did the same some posts I just got to so late it no longer made a lot of sence to respond to

By now, some of the items are moot. But I'm sure there are a few of us that feel like we are being ignored by an large the rest of the community.

By and large, I can understand narrative. I'm sure there are many of us that describe things one way only to have it perceived another, But and this is a huge but, if you can not take some time out of your day and pay attention to others posts that you respond to, then what are you doing in a world-building game that requires teamwork from the whole player base?

We have already lost a few players due to disinterest, about to lose another, and yet we are still trying to gain more people and do nothing to bring people's interest in. The only reason why I'm still around (and still talking to myself mostly) is that I'm forcing myself upon you all until I do lose interest (or get tired of talking to myself which ever happens first.)

If I can't get a response when everyone is in one area and I pretty much blast everyone with a blinding light, and Veoh can't really get any response when he blasted down the door kicking and screaming, then what hope does any new player have?

Edit: you beat me posting SG, but to that, no there wasn't.

SG has the right of it.  The issue is that sometimes at these divine gatherings you just have WAY too much stuff going on to really be able to reply to in any sort of... complete fashion, or really in any fashion that even makes sense given the rest of the stuff that is happening.  Joran, I am sorry that I missed your post about you flashing... not sure how that happened.  Altair would have had some choice words for you (he certainly did the LAST time you did something light-related )

This is how I see it:
Person A posts and says that something happened  (say, I put down my Rimple board)
Person B posts and says that something in addition happened (Shadow smashes my Rimple board)
Person C posts and reacts to that thing that person B did (SG jumps up at the smashing of the rimple board)
Person D comes in and does something unrelated to persons A,B,C.  (Veok shows up and starts peddling his wares)
Person A posts in reaction to person B [being ninja'd by D]  (I declare that Shadow has besmirched my honor and summon a massive ooze)
Person F notices person D and tries to respond (Thought attempts to communicate with Veok)
Persons B, C and F respond to the ooze (Shadow slashes, SG dices, Thought Winds)
Person D reiterates a crypic message to F (Veok asks again for Time-s... who is not Eago, who was suggested, but offers no other details)
Person F replies, then leaves (Thought replies that the only Time-s they know would be Eago... and leaves)

At which point a bunch of stuff happens away from the party.

So I find it rather reasonable for people to deal with the current... events (a fight and an ooze) before dealing with the new event (Veok appearing)

I was actually in the middle of a response to you this morning when I saw your post here.  Seeing that you had quit, I deleted my post.  Should I, instead, reinstate it?

I was actually in chat at the time, and told the posters there that I was looking for someone to mention Kyoaag N'gaas, so it wasn't an issue of cryptic-ness.

I want to elucidate that I'm not leaving because of one small thing. I have a 2-page list of complaints about this game (LoC, not SD), and this was only the straw that broke the dobbit's back (as it were).

Yes, it is quite annoying when people ignore your posts. On the other hand, I think we can all agree that inserting oneself into an ongoing conversation is rarely enough to get the participants of said conversation to instead start paying attention to you. I know things like smashing down a door and flashing a light would be abrupt and loud/bright, but in a post, every post is just as abrupt and loud/bright as the last, and rarely captures the attention of others. Yes, it sucks that you guys weren't paid attention to, but I think that most peoples' attentions were elsewhere, on other conversations at the time.

And Veok, I appologize if it seemed as though I wasn't reading your posts during our interaction. I was, but like Eago hinted, and I believe I said later in the OOC, I actually did not know what it was you were getting at.

I would concede, but dropping a flashbomb in the middle of a party in front of everyone, is kind of like yelling into a crowded pool that there is a snake in the pool. If that wasn't flashy enough, then it kind of makes one wonder what is flashy enough to get peoples attention. Do I need to cause the sun to go supernova to get attention? Blow up the world? is that flashy enough? I know its kind of extreme, but it seems like someone like me needs to go to extremes just to get into conversations and get noticed, as opposed to being just a side note.

I do beleive there was some responces to your action though mild those would have ben good times to respond.

Alternatly I find it much much better to try and draw oneself into a rp further from a croud where your more likaly to have the target gods attention and therefore get noticed and responded to.

if you created a race or exarch they work great to help interact with other races and such, otherwise think of a fun interaction maybe contact the player via ooc chat and try to get a rp going.

also if you feal a post in being ignore post it here in OOC and I am sure people will take note of it just mention who needs to read said post and what the post number is and you prob get more of a reaction to a post that might otherwise be hidden in the sea of posts

Seams that maplib is working for me again as such I reposted the location of the mountains, but just in case it vanishes I will point out the mountains that I had made rose up beneith Ar'iktar and extend a short distence in both direction, those mountains have rather flat tops and the small mountain tips that raise above this flat top have become a part of the cities defences burrowed into and equiped with seige weapons and the such basicaly the entire mountain purpose is defence and a bit of shade for Dra'Kar

Edit: well it seams to have worked for a single area post which works for the mountains.

Question how many PP would it take to mold the entire continent/island that Dra'kar and Ar'iktar are on?  looking to mold the entire continent at once. Also what is the scale for the map I mean how large is it from one side to the other length wise so I know about how far cities should be abd how large a forest or mountain range is?

don't need exact miles but about hwat size? size of texas (about 600 miles), size of the US (about 3K miles) perhaps the same as california since it seams shaped similarly, though the islands would sugest that the length would be close to 3K miles (about the same length as the US is acorss from atlantic to pacific

Question:

With eago becomming a exarch wouldning 9PP totle need to be spent before he could provide 3PP for a actions, further would that count as 1 use of a artifact/exarch for that reset or would it be 3 uses 1 for each PP gained as that makes a mild difrence, or was the limit removed within reason.

I've been spending 3 PP every reset for the past 3 resets (9 PP in total), each action adding an extra 1 PP he can use for a total of 3 PP now. Don't worry gazer, thank you for your astute attention to rules, but I got it covered.

less of a observation to the rules but more to make sure I understand how they work. being a admin I had immagined that you knew the rules much better then I and I evdidently missed the past expenditure so all I saw was 3PP for 1 action that granted 3PP per reset and wondered if I had misunderstood something.

also does it count as 1 use of a artifact/exarch or 3 or is the limit even still in effect

again not tring to question you am more tring to learn and make sure I understand correctly myself

SG, I think that 'size of north america' is probably a good general size.  You can see that my two 2 PP expenditures to make mountain ranges generally covered a fairly substantial swath of land.

As for modifying the entire continent... I think it would depend on what you wanted to do  Care to share some details?

And yes, that would be 3 uses of an artifact/exarch out of four total per reset.

Okay, lets see here... based on what other people have done... Each forest will be 2 PP, the desert 2 PP as well (basedon the plains which are about the same size being 2 PP).  Mountains... that is a lot of mountains... We'll say somewhere around 8 PP for all of those.  We'll say 2 PP to modify the small islands as well.   And then I think 1 PP for the large craggy peak in the middle of the bottom ring of mountains... which is what...

Couple of issues with recent expenditures

A) In general, this applies to several people. A new city from an existing group is probably best described as a nourish action, rather than a command. A command would be more appropriate for commanding a group to spawn a new nation. If you've commanded for the creation of a new city recently, please indicate if you were simply growing the people, or forming a new nation. (specifically, I know this one applies to Thought and Stargazer)

B) Stargazer. In Post 429, you aimed a single nourish at 2 distinct groups. Kobolds and the nation of Dar'kar. You'll have to choose one or the other, as a single nourish cannot benefit two different groups.

C) Also in post 429, stargazer, you indicate several actions a 0PP actions. Neither of them are actually 0 PP actions. I think you are using exarch PP on these, but if so, you need to indicate as such so I can record it properly.

D) I know Veok isn't playing anymore, but I'm going to bring it up here in case I miss Toph, Thought, or Ara in the next few days, as I've got extra hours at work. We need to decide the fate of Veok's weaponry, as several technically don't exist. This would be because Veok was using more than 4 external PP sources over several turns, which is an illegal action. Veok, if you are still reading, feel free to indicate how you would like those expenditures shifted around.

E) Timmy, I noted that you have a nourish aimed at white dragons. Due to generalizations in the way they were created, it's a general effect on chromatic dragons as a whole. Just to let you know.

For me, that was moving a population in preparation for altering them into a new race. So I guess the closest that would be is creating a new nation. If you'd like to know what this nation/race will eventually be, that is Elves (unless, of course, someone else beats me to it).

Regarding Veok's weapons, I have a few ideas that I think might be fun, but I will wait to talk to the other admins personally.

Hm? I had exactly 3 PP sources - 2 artifacts and an exarch. This meant that, with 4 PP a week, I could trigger the 3 PP sources to forge one, spend 3 PP normally to forge another, and thus average 2 weapons per reset. I wouldn't put it past me accidentally having gone beyond that due to faulty math, though.

At any rate, I gave the weapons to Wizdude in chat. He's free to either roleplay them as they were intended (msg me if you want their descriptions/powers) or unveil them as he sees fit, with whatever powers he sees fit.

0PP - economics in Dra’Kar nation -hardly a action as it effects the ever changing economy and is a by product of other actions and effects, I list it for RP reasons and will continue to change it as the nation developes and grows, if the action had any form of effect besides the trade within the city (again on a RP level) then I would spend the proper action for now call it a cantrip since the effects are temperary

0PP command -  Glimmer -the source is the 1 PP command from glimmer

Also 2 actions does not make several and 1 of those two are not even anything more then a cantrip as the effects fluctate based on the game so are not lasting effects or even anything more then fluff, and the other stated where it came from just in a long winded version that should have ben writen better to show it's source

Further the nurish action increases technology as such technicaly effects only Dra'kar however that said Dra'Kar nation in the only location in the realm where kobolds reside as all 3 towns that hold kobolds are members of the Dra'kar nation so if the nation flurishes as a by product kobolds do and vice versa just as if kobolkds suffer so does the nation since they make up most of the population of said nation.

Is there a difrence betwean 1PP nurish and 1PP command to have them settle a new town one means a lord or something tells them to go for whatever reason one means they go becouse there is a perceived need probably due to overcrouding both ways 1PP is spent to make a new town might as well call it 1PP found- a nation founds a new town.

I beleive I used command since it was a order by the leadership not just a cuase of overcrouding the new town was founded for war purpuses.

The main technical issue might be in the spire in that a mold action would be enough to move the landform, but then there is the question of if the artifacts that are on it move with it. In some cases that would happen (say, if you moved an island on which there was a sword that was an artifact), in some cases not (if the Lonely Island was moved, for example, the AllSoul would remain where it is).

Beyond that, a harm action wouldn't eliminate the undead on the continent: harm actions can't totally eliminate something. There would be, at least, a fragment remaining (this is true for creatures, populaces, etc). As such, a command action might better fit what you had imagined.

However, I had a related but broader question for you. Are these counter actions, and your earlier posted proposed changes to the landforms of the Western continent, essentially a claim onto the entire thing and that you will generally oppose these sorts of actions in the future?
#407

Topheh

Sep 12, 2011 11:47:43
Beyond all that, that Exarch is no good, SG.  Exarchs/Artifacts provide one type of PP, not ANY type of PP, which is effectively what your exarch is.

This:
3PP Beget (Major) -Chath xta'rl  now actively extends his presence  over all kobolds, As such any action involving Swifts children ((kobolds or the DraKar nation they rule over)  done by any god other then Swift cost 1PP more.

Translates, mechanically, to this:
3 PP Beget, etc.....     Any action involving Swift's children done by any god other than swift is immediately countered by a 1 PP expenditure in the opposite direction.  (A nourish is countered by a harm, a harm by a nourish, a command by another command to NOT do the first command, etc).

We've had these sort of countering artifacts in the past, but they've usually been far more specific, and with loopholes.  My favorite example was called the Skyway River.  It made planes cost 1 PP more to be made (mechanically, it was a 1 PP decreate action) unless the plane allowed the Skyway River to flow through it.  People could hop into the Skyway River and be transported (not necessarially safely) through it to all the planes which connected to the River.

Hmmm.... speaking of that.  Anyone know what happened to Massive?

Also, this action is no good.
1PP command -from glimmer - Glimmer teaches the army how to patrol and protect there lands -Protects Dra’Kar Nation against 1PP  worth harm action from attacking creatures and nations.

What you are doing is trying to turn a command action into a nourish action because you have a command exarch but want to protect against a harm.  But command != nourish.  We used to have a separate category for these sort of 'teaching' commands, but technically what you are doing is nourishing the nation's ability to defend itself.

Also, on a more personal note (read:  Rules-wise you are free to do whatever you want)... I strongly encourage you not to do something like this (both this exarch and, in general, the countering actions which you performed in your post).  I view this game as sort of a structured improv, and like any improv, the rule I keep in mind is "Yes, And..."  where you take what someone else has done and allow it to modify your plans so everyone is happy.  What you've done with your post now is make it clear that you have no intention of allowing others to modify your plans... and probably annoyed Shadow a great deal.   Also, if you are intending on going down the path of making interference with your people harder, be warned that it will end up in the isolation of that race, as both positive AND negative interactions will be more costly... and I think you'll be hard pressed to find people who want to spend double PP to help your nation out

Based on Shadow's description of the location of the Tree, I'd say it moves with the Spire as a whole.

Shadow... you can't use artifact PP the turn the artifact was made.  Too many undead, Shadow!  Too many undead!

Also, get off my lawn, you domain-encroacher!

First, SG, to reiterate my earlier question: is it correct to take your counter actions and your map about the western continent as indications that you are not going to truck with outside interference on the western continent?

The Throne provides 1PP toward Command actions only, and it limited to use only against command actions that are in violation of a pre-established edict. The PP can only be spent on a small subset of actions, and the artifact has a loophole to getting around those restrictions anywho (claim the throne for yourself).

SG, your exarch, in contrast, attemps to provide a PP towards a command action, or a nourish action, or a harm action, or a mold action,  or a spawn action, and so on, and so forth. Furthermore, there is no real limitation on it: specifically, it is phrased so that you can take advantage of it whenever you want. There is no real way for someone to get around it.

It would be permissable, however, to have your exarch provide 1PP to counter command actions of a specific sort (say, command actions causing the specific population to take actions that are in violation of Swift's specific teachings). And you could upgrade the exarch so that it could also provide a PP to counter harm actions that, say, inflict disease on them.

Regarding the command action, I am not entirely sure I decoded your post correctly, and I haven't been able to talk to Toph to find out his specific objection, but more generally speaking, at most a command can teach a population how to deal with a calamity, but it can't undo that calamity. For example, if someone had used a harm action to cause a drought, teaching a population how to conserve water doesn't mean that the drought isn't in effect, but it does mean that the population can handle that stressor better. I think Toph's objection is that, as your phrased it, you appear to be attempting to undo/prevent the calamity in the first place. However, as noted, I haven't been able to talk to Toph about this so I am not sure if that is his point of objection or not.

We are not saying that you should allow other people's actions to destroy things that you have spent weeks working on. However, we are saying that you should allow other people's actions to influence things. So there is undead running around, how does that "destroy" anything? It creates a challenge for your kobold to adapted to and overcome, yes, but it doesn't invalidate anything you have worked towards. Indeed, teaching kobold to hunt undead was a good example of allowing for influence, minus the attempt to undo the harm action through it.

Fixed the exarchs power and Glimmers command to resolve any possible debate I beleive this resolves the issue compleatly doesn't it?

Seamed fitting to me.

As such I have oviously understood the Thrones power MUCH difrently then it seams to be. As such I very willingly will alter the effects of the exarch and apologize for my stuborn nature.
The exarchs power will be changed to - harm actions against the people of Dra'Kar will cost 1PP extra,

In essence using a nurish action to counter a harm action used against them, will later expand upon the effects.

As for the rest, let me again break it down

1PP Nourish - from Dro’Mortath-this countered the harm by slaying the undead that attacked the nation and caused the harm

1PP harm - from Chath xta'rl - used to recover the trapped souls of the kobolds this did not destroy all shades just the ones created from kobold souls to be specific. the other undead that posed a threat was taken care of by the nurish action

past that
1PP to move the spire to a safe location so it would trap no further kobold souls, if it had not directly ben negitivly effecting the nation I would more then likaly have ignored it and built around it but as a threat it was dealth with

1PP to alter the hazardess plant life into dark trees that while harmless show the after effects of there origins, not part of the original plan but a idea I planned to expand upon.

That said why did vasa and vion not get upset at so many souls being trapped in the bodies of undead since that directly aposes the death domain just a curiosity that you are more then welcome to not respond to.

the 1PP command I talked about as with the 3PP to improve the exarch -changing the post to reflect this now and again I am sorry I misunderstood the thrones powers and therefore misunderstood the extent that a similar type of power could cause

Edit - To compleatly resolve any debate on if a command action may be used to protect against attack creatures simply becouse it is not technicaly the proper counter to a harm action then I instead change it to counter 1PP worth of command action used to make the people of Dra'Kar act difrently then normal.  will edit the post to reflect this simply to avoid the debate.

Actually, Thought, the Throne provides several actions now... it can countercommand, it can counter a harm, or it can harm... its also a combat artifact for me, and it can upgrade itself.  That is five different actions it can do.

Which is why I and others have sunk 15 PP (6 from Ara, 3 from Jormy, 6 from Me) into it.  It is, in effect, five different artifacts in one.

Your scope (the nation of Dra'Kar) is fine for me... thats sufficently narrowly tailored.  Its the many-exarchs-in-one-for-3-PP that I am commenting on.

Thanks for jumping to admin cheating, by the way.

The objection that I have to the exarch command is that it is using an exarch that provides command PP to, in essence, cause a nourish PP to be spent automatically at some indeterminate future time (to counteract the harm PP).  Two problems with this: 1.  It converts one sort of PP to another sort of PP for 'free'.  If this works, then you could also 'command the kobolds to make a mountain (mold)' or 'command the kobolds to kill the twibbles (harm) [Note that this is different from 'go to war with'... I'm talking specifically the 'killing' part of the equation]' or 'Command them to forge a magical artifact', etc, etc.  Its making your original command exarch into a multi-type exarch and masking it behind 'but the Kobolds are doing it!'   2.  Its a form of storing PP that could be abused (this is far more minor of a concern, and one not about you, specifically, but about the precdent it could set).  Basically, using this, you could each week prevent another harm PP 'sometime in the future' indefinitely... and then when it comes time to defend yourself... you have like... 30 PP worth of 'protection' built into your peoples.

So those are my objections to that.

As for the other, I completely understand that you want to create and the rest, and thats fine.  I, too, love to create things, and I have a lot of things planned for my own races.  What I am saying, like Thought pointed out is that its not really 'playing along' to say 'what you did is wholly negated in one post'.  What you've basically done is just wasted shadow's PP from last week and your PP from this week to.... get back to the staus quo... which, at least in my mind, is not at all a satisfying outcome for anyone.

Edit:  Oh, you ninja'd me.  Ignore most of this.

We don't know how V&V will react, as Thought has yet to post IC since the undead were made... so saying that they should've acted differently is... moot.

To note, Toph, I wasn't saying that the throne hadn't had a crapload of PP invested in it: I didn't realize that this wasn't well known. Rather, I was trying to addresss its specific comman PP-ness.

Anywho, and yes, V&V will become uppity about the undead once they find out. I wasn't expect it so soon, and I had a blitz of work this weekend and today, but I have a few ideas for how to react that I should be able to post tomorrow.

dumping aditional command point to resist other commands is alright though right?

Also not sure I understand what you mean by having a issue with multiple exarchs in one, if you mean granting a exarch aditional powers giving it the same power as multiple exarchs that should be no difrent then a artifact so am assuming you had  a difrent meaning, were you refering to the cammand action being used for things that it wasn't technicaly made to be used for?

As for Glimmer I edited it becouse I kinda understood what you guys ment, though she could command thr troops to defend that would not stop the harm action since the defending troops would still be killed causing harm to the settlment/nation where as nurish would simply improve the city by the same amount that the harm damaged it effectivly canciling each other out.

as for V&V look forward to reading there responce, wasn't saying they should do soemthing as more of a curiosity if they would which I will soon have fully answered

Lastly as for more or less canciling out half of his actions from his last post, I admit that may get flustering however in times where your actions directly apose or effect anouther gods creations then it may be best to speak to the controling player before acting or else risk having the action canciled. Wasin't it you guys who taught me a similar lesson, at the expence of a headach I am sure which I again apologise for being rather stuborn at times but normaly I come around on most things.

If he had asked me how my god would have reacted I would have told him, pluss I didn't wast his actions I wasted mine to protect my creations but for his I simply retargeted his actions is all, instead of targetting me I moved them to a more populated area think of it as helping to encourage interaction with others who are more interested in the proposed effects of his artifacts and such.

Commands can be used to oppose commands, yes.

Gazer, I just wanted to point out that if you continue to nullify other peoples interactions or remove yourself from them, people will stop trying to interact with you and your creations. Now, maybe that would be a happy consequence for you, but it might get rather boring to be ignored. And if you were unclear, this is a collaborative world-building game, which is, I believe, why shadow made those actions in the first place. He was trying to collaborate.

Nor did I say that's what "collaborate" meant. I am not trying to be antagonistic towards you, and I am not going to argue with you. I merely urge you to consider not removing every threat completely from the kobolds and dragons, and rather allow them to build and enrich your experience and your creations, in the true spirit of collaboration.

You will need to spend 1 PP per race benefitting from your nourish. Otherwise, just select one.

Further, forests aren't really a mold. They fall under nourish, as you are causing plant life to grow. I'd say a 1 PP Nourish could  probably cover that island with a decent, if not thick, forest. 2 PP Nourish would cover it easily.

[edit] Oh, yay. It decided to work this time

Its big enough to share! I hope you dont mind forests though!

Actually that could work out for both of our benefits also!

And Toph, while UV is considered light, it is on an invisible (to the naked eye) spectrum. So, in this case, it isn't impeding the visible light which is more of what Altair demostrated as opposed to the UV spectrum. Unless you wish to go high-technology with this. Also it doesn't filter all of it, just enough of which is harmful to mortals. So, even then its not blocking or impeding it fully.

Shadow, then that makes it even easier! As then it frees up some PP to rearrange. I'll edit my post in a few minutes then.

Edit: Made the edits in the IC. Please let me know if I missed anything.

Collaborate also doesn't mean completely derail something some one just did, because it doesn't fit your perfect little vision. I created an artifact that makes undead using souls. Souls from everything, not just dragonkind. I made some poisonous plants. And I made some undead, which would naturally target the nearest living things, which I represented by a tiny harm action. Just something to reflect what is happening.

An obstacle for kobolds and dragonborn to overcome, a challenge to be met. Some nice fluff and RP, a chance to show off how they fight in your posts. Something that isn't going perfect for them.

And in repsonse, you blow your entire reset allotment of PP to essentially say have your god say, "No, you can't dop things on my continent, to my people, without my approval. Now take your stuff over there and leave me alone. My people can't be challenged."

Quite frankly, that that is about as far from collaberative as possible and is, in my opinion, contrary to the very spirit of the game. Directly negating someones actions like that is fun for no one.

All I was trying to do was help expand on the nature and growth of a different part of the world and give you7r creations some interactions that didn't involve them flying halfway across the world to seek out people they didn't know exist. Not all interactions have to be friendly. A little hostility, some enmies for your creatures to beat, and we've interacted in a way which makes the world a richer and more real place. You could have gone something like "1 PP - Nourish Populace - The people of Drakar master undead fighting techniques, minimizing losses from raiding undead". Wouldn't have bothered me a bit.

You want to know why? Because it would represent the two of having an efect on the world. I created a challenge, and your people overcame, and in the process became reknowned slayers of undead. It's a win/win. But sending everything that doesn't fit how you expect it to be away fromwhere else does nothing but waste everyone's time.

I've spent the last few days stewing over this, and I've come to this conclusion. My god is still standing inside the mountain you tried to move. Not ten feet from the artifact you so graciously decided absolutely had to be sent away so it couldn't bother your 'precious little children'. Within the vicinity of the toxic mist spawning from the plants that you decided just couldn't be tolerated. You know what? My god says no. I'll spend my PP to keep things right the hell where they are.

If you want to chat about it and see if we can't find a more amicable solution (and maybe even save you some PP in the process), I'm almost always on the chat channel. Or we can discuss it here if you'd prefer. If you'd rather not, then I'll be more than happy to post IC with my PP expenditures directly countering yours.

Actually... technically, the 'heat' of the sun is its artifact effect... so you *technically* partially decreated it in order to let this ozone thing work!   Thats DEFINITELY interfering!  (but again, lets run with this for a little bit... I imagine we'll get some good RP out of it when Altair realizes what is up.  Incidentally, Ara, now would be a good time for Vega herself to go wandering, perhaps frameshifted into a UV band... Altair's eye-in-the-sky has been blinded!

SG.  I don't actually want a response to any of these points I am about to make, as I am done with trying to convince you of much of anything.  It is clear that we have very different ideas of what is important in this game, and I can accept that, even if I think you are missing part of the game that makes it more than just a one-person setting design contest.  We have had many people with many different ideas of what this game was to them in the past.

You describe "my perfect little vision."  Very well, you are of course welcome to have an idea of what you wish to create.  Just keep in mind that one of the guidelines that we like to follow is "We're making this together."  If there is something really important to you (for instance, in a prior game it was important for me to get a race to a particular plot point without excessive disruption) then just mention it in here and people will generally accomodate that.

Shadow had an IC reason for putting the spire there.  The spire began an interaction (what would not have begun an interaction would have been shadow just pointing 5 harm PP at Dra'Kar and wiping it from the face of the earth... which he adamantly did NOT do), at which point you negated every aspect of it (moving the spire, in terms of Shadow's plans, is still negation, even if, as you have pointed out repeatedly, you didn't destroy it).  As I warned you, and as Shadow laid out, that response irked (a kind word, really) him, at which point he is now perfectly in his right to spend all his PP reinstating the actions you negated... which gets you both dismally nowhere.  The two of you need to talk.  You both are 'in the right' as it were, game-wise... you both are completely allowed to do your actions.  What I hope is that the two of you can sit down and come up with a solution to this, preferably without a line-by-line refutation of each others points... which has never really worked, now has it?

Finally, SG, it has become clear to me that the only amenable solution to you is for us to keep the heck away from your people and their business.  Attempts to affect them are responded to either with work-arounds, as in the case of Thought's soul thing, or with outright countering, as with shadow's.  In both cases, it is accompanied by a LOT of angry OOC comments, more than I have ever seen in the over two years that I have been playing this game.

Very well.  I will not touch them.  For me, my god and my creations, that northwestern corner near Dra'Kar is a place we will not go.  I hope that this is a satisfactory solution to you.  It certainly isn't for me, as I was hoping to interact and have fun stories, but as I can't know what I will do that will deviate from your plan, and if I do introduce something that will change that plan I will be the target of angry OOC messages, I find myself with little choice if I wish to keep the peace.   Enjoy that upper corner, SG.  Its all yours.

Let me start with a apology, I replied last night wile I was still rather upset and it seams I can't controle my typing so well when I am upset so again I desire to say sorry.

I was rather upset by shadows responce of screw you I will do it anyways. but that it is the past now and I can't say I havn't done it myself.

What I would have prefered was a message saying hey I wanted to make so and so but it will effect your creations by XXX are you ok with this.

I do beleive that was more or less the message I was told to send even for issue like claiming the draconic domain that very lightly effected anyone.

Instead it was here it is deal with it, which caused a reaction from me similar to when I overstepped my place when claiming the magic domain with joran and he got upset.

Then when I activly go forth and attempt to interact with races and gods I am compleatly ignored, do you relise how many times I had to repeate the attempted interaction with the acients, and I take said interaction with the mist people whatever they are called was unwanted so ignored, similarly in the balist plains I was ignored.

Basicaly every interaction I personaly try to start is utterly ignored, hell 90% of the actions I do that involves others in the game are compleatly ignored. This is of cource the same type of thing veok was refering to when he left, and I see others in large ignored.

To be truthfull for the most part there is a small group of people who interact none stop and others are ignored unless it works with a member of that small groups plans.  but for the most part that don't bug me luckily or I would have whent the same route Veok did.

The artifact could have ben created further south on the continent and created undead there from the creatures and then those undead could have romed into Dra'kar and caused fighting that I would have whent with and built on.

But instead he tossed it where by it'se description would more or less continualy weakened Dra'kar and ben a continual issue.

To situations like this your right I do normaly simply work around them. and why shouldn't I? why should I compleatly change the things I come up with every time it does not flow with someone elses idea. With the kobolds I compramised I let dragon souls go to the afterlife and only worked around kobolds specificaly, I could have instead commanded draconic souls. but again off topic.

Basicaly my point is talking OOC about something that has a large effect on my stuff is what I expect then I can say thats cool but maybe this or that realy messes up my idea but perhaps we can do this. To me compramise is the heart and soul of colaborating, and I don't mean here is what happenes now alter your plans to make it work I mean hey man this is what I would liek to do and why is there something we can figure out to make it work does it interfeir with  what you got planned for the area.

also if my attempted interactions are prety much all ignored why should I welcome other peoples attempted interaction?  Becouse all and all I do feal extreamly ignored I just thrive on the creation aspect of the game so it don't bother me.

Gazer, I am not going to argue with you. Instead, I'd like to help you out a bit. I understand where you are coming from, and that you must feel cornered and pestered. But let me just show you where everyone else is coming from. First of all, you say you are upset that you have been ignored. But you have yourself ignored many many things yourself. In fact, you have gone one step further, and not only ignored many things, but everything you have not ignored, you have removed completely from your vicinity. You are not, nor have you ever done, any sort of real collaboration or engaged in any sort of working together. This is not entirely your fault. LoC has tended to become somewhat of an old boys club and most people do not take kindly to what they see basically as you just trying to transfer your own ideas from outside the game wholesale into the world, trying in every way to preserve the original image and completely banishing any outside influences. This is not in keeping with the accepted spirit of the game. You ask for people to talk to you and work with you. Perhaps your should do the same and start working with other people, and talking to them OOC.

I am not being hostile to you, despite your own repeated attempts to be. If you reply to this post in a hostile way, I will cease to attempt to help you and remove my own support.

With the exception of last night when I was annoyed (and have apologized for and delated) I have not intended to be hostile. though with writtent text it is extreamly easy to take something other then how it was intended.

I have created a few mental images, not things taken from some outside source as some have though but rather things I have taken from my own ideas that I have had since the game started.

I understand that many of you have played the game together for a very long time you know how to interact with eachother and how to do things that you know is alright. Then you add in new faces who react and think difrently then you are used to and problems arise. Just as I am used to running and rping with my own groups and have ben tring to adapt to the way you guys do things and often times I fail at this. sometimes I get in my stuborn ways and can be dificult to dealw ith. for this all I can do is apologize. I am who I am and unfortunatly I do get stuborn and bull headed at times.

I have however done my absalute best to not ignore any posts directed to me, hence forth having swift attend the party, reacting to the traders, basicaly reacting to as much as I can. though I admit I am sure I have missed things though would have more then hapily reacted or altered if I had relised I missed things.

I do admit that I have more or less isolated myself by going around other peoples plans to see my own visions. but what others are not able to see is the degree and consistency that I constently alter my vision and ideas based on the happenings around me.

I honestly will work around and with most ideas however if I feal like my ideas seam undesirable and unimportant then I start getting stuborn. Is simply part of who I am and again I am used to rping with people I know well and who know me well just as most of you are likewise used to.

however you could note that I did roll with the undead, and prety much every other change I have run into. Yes in 3 situations where it became a issue I cercomvented part of that issue so a idea I realy wanted to work with and expand could continue without derailment. but For the most part I do adapt.

I am sorry if my style and stuborn ways cause headach or sore fealings but betwean the inefficiency of the written word specialy my own and the difrence in personality and play style some conflicts are sure to arise.

I do however expect the same curtasy and concideration that is expected of me. If I oviously have plans and am activly doing something I expect people to respect that and not try to negitvly influence it, and yes I know there is a difrence from enriching it negitivly effecting. and Shadows post could be veiwed in both lights and perhaps with difrent wording I may have well taken it difrently and reacted difrently tot he same effect. But the case was I took it as negitive influence rather then enrishing the story.

And I can admit I should have spoken with shadow before arbitrarily moving his stuff however likewise he should have talked to me before creating it in such a way. In this we were both wrong and both right at the same time. And if he had ben the only one to message me I would have ben much more receptive however instead everyone started messaging me and I began to feal extreamly bullied as if everyone was banding together against me. In such a situation it is in my nature to dig in become super stuborn and defenceive and fight back. I don't realy have a lot of passive flight nature to me I am much more likaly to fight and defend my ideas when I feal bullied or asaulted in any way.

This is a lot of what causes me to be antisocial in and out of the game, I get defencive easaly and I am extreamly stuborn this issue is extreamly worse when I am aproached wrongly, not saying anyone was wrong in aproaching me rather that the effect of such had other then desirable effects for anyone.

can't realy say much more then I am who I am and though I absalutaly love fun and enriching RP It can on ocation be dificult if there isn't plenty of talking so it isn't taken wrongly. best I can say there is talk with me and lets figure junk out before it's thrust upone me otherwise expect resistence and be prepared for such. not saying I won't bend and fold and alter but I will often resist as well. But then wouldn't my char also resist such things?

Thye main difrence and issue realy comes from while you guys know what areas are safe to push with eachother and what actions will cause problems and you by instinct are able to avoid conflict becouse of that knoledge I don't have that instict or knoledge and nor do any of you towards me. thus the foresight of what will and what won't cause issues simply isn't there.

To shadow I say - if you want to work something out  then I am more then willing to do so however if you instead just want to be as stuborn as me, more then likaly primarily out of personal pride then I will remove myself from the equation and work around the issue as I have in the past. I did originaly have a lot of plans for the area that I had slowly started to deveolope and figure out however most of those are simple ideas that can be altered easaly enough alternatly I can also easaly move and rebuild the ideas with little issues. I don't wish to upset you nor do I wish to be upset myself and would much prefer avoidence or working together as aposed to conflict.

Please don't invoke me in your arguments. My reasons for wanting to leave started long before the start of this game, and to imply I left the game because people wouldn't talk to me cheapens the real reasons that drove me away.

I was wondering, could I give myself a split-personality. I was hoping to, later in the game, have Qlenoya be driven mad and half of the time he is in his, hopefully, medicine and loyalty, peaceful form. And the other half of the time in his "DESTROY ALL!!!!!" form (which is disease and betrayal). Im kind of doing this for one reason. Im acting sort of neutral, balnced so to speak, and does that really seem like the personality of someone with my domains?

Yeah, that is perfectly fine, Timmy. To note, that is sort of what I have going on with my god/gods, except that instead of flavoring it as having one god with two personalities, I have two "gods" as two personalities. But the general mechanics are the same.

For a general note to everyone, I am planning on crafting an artifact this turn (hopefully to be posted soon) that essentially allows V&V to be in two places at once. Currently, since V&V are only one god by the rules, they can't really split up (when they do, one goes inactive). This artifact specifically allows them both to remain active when split up. This artifact wont be producing PP or combat bonuses, but since it is a little unusual, I wanted to explain to everyone before it appears in game.

"similarly in the balist plains I was ignored."

I'm sorry, on this but, unless you are talking about the Zobaga, you have never been to the Balist Plains, as it was created just before the party, and None of your races, or your exarch, or your god know of the kender yet as they were created during the party. As none of your races as far as I can tell travel too far out from your lands protection.

From this, you couldn't have been ignored on the plains, as there has been no interactions on the plains from you yet.

The only kender interactions that I know of currently are the Zobaga(for trade), and the fairies (for shelter/protection).

I do try to keep up on that stuff, and I did try looking back to see if I missed anything, so if I did, please let me know and I'll correct myself. Otherwise, in the plains you have not yet been ignored, nor by me.

Speaking of current interactions, Toph, is it alright to say that basic trade has been made between the kender and zobaga? It's unless you wish to RP it out.

And Wizdude, what are your plans for the fairies?

Runkun the kobold preist and so9me emisaries set forth to explore the southern area in search for the Zobaga and any other races in the area, they don't know specifics so have no mentioned any specifics in my posts however Runking traveled throught the mist (in which I stated that if RP was undesired to ignore them and I would have them pass through without knowing anything but monsters lived there.  I then had them come out of the mist on the other side near the lake rest there, have since then made 2 posts about them traveling along the river of the balist plains and becouse they travel with a diamond dragon the sun makes them visible from very far away.

Last post I made I had them travel further along the river and begin toi aproach the settlment near the river (the one closest to the lake.  I again stated that if the interaction was unwante dto ignore them and they will see the village as abandoned (sugesting that the citezens hid there presence and would have them continue on there jurney.

I have ben carefull to not try and force any interactions on anyone yet have made it very open and easy for those willing for such interactions.

Basicaly they know races live there somewhere but don't know the specifics at all so are exploring and tring to spread the knoledges and teachings of the world in whatever way the races are willing to receive them.  Every race the missionaries encounter will be nurished from the learning  and teachings to represent the knoledge they learn.

Did this primarily to help develope the knolege domain of my god since I relised I had ben ignoring his active domain to much adn he needed to have some of his followers spread there knoledges

Actually, thinking about it, Ara and I are planning on having a long-simmering conflict between the Zobaga and the Gnomes... might I borrow some Kender for scouting?  Mercenaries, of a sort?

A repost/update on my deity

Name of God
: Sadu-Nuggoroth / Tsarokga-Noggoth
Starting Domain(s): Aberrant(Active), Nature(Passive)
Physical Appearance: appears as a gruesome mass of slimy tentacles and chitinous claws. In the center it has a cluster of eyes and feelers, which most scolars believe to be its head.
Symbol: A cluster of eyes, surrounded by tentacles
Titles: Last of the Tsarok-Hem, Tsarokga-Noggoths Chosen

Sadu-Nuggoroth used to be a member of the Tsarok-Hem, a breed of powerful aberrations created by Tsarokga-Noggoth that dominated the outer regions of the Aetheric Realms.

For reasons unknown, it left that world while being the vessel of her masters essence.

Runkin and his group travel further across the Balist Plains, In the distance they could see some form of settlement barely on the horizon. Though not wishing to scare whoever resided  within this settlement they slowed there progress allowing the people if there were indeed people within the settlement to have ample time to see there progression.

yea I prob should go back to posting such rp things in the PP section to accent them better, used to do that.

Runking and his group are still traveling through the plains.

And wasn't having them try to avoid life I was actualy allowing a player to eather start a interaction or avoid one as they desired since I didn't want to force a interaction upon any race. they will adventualy travel to the end of the river and probably explore a bit more before finaly returning home

People are more then welcome to interact with runkin and his group as they explore thats why I ben doing there exploration in parts rather then a large single post just so peoples know

as a side note I don't even know who resides within that first town what race is there and will they hide or great the explorer/missionaries

Something that I have found that helps is to bold important parts of your post so that others who are just skimming will see it.

For example, bolding the general location of an event ("~Sha'a~," "~The Party~," etc) makes it easier for people who are interested in that location to find something that is going on there. Likewise, if you are interacting with a character, bolding their name helps the player to notice ("Altair," "Steve," etc). Same with races. And, of course, if the name would be OOC knowledge, then bolding a descriptor of the thing in question helps, ("Short, scaled bipeds" for Kobold, for example).

I don't do this consistently myself, but I should, and it has been very helpful in the past.

EDIT:
StarGazer, I just read your IC post and your specific reference to V&V seems to indicate that you'd like them to react to this event. Since they would view this turn of events as intentionally antagonistic, I wanted to get an idea of what sort of interaction you were looking for.

On a different note, it seems that the kobold would really no longer count as a mortal race, but are more analagous to angels or archons. Does that seem like a fair assessment?

(keap in mind that Spectral drakes  more or less spawned themselves from splinteres of the kobolds soul as the kobolds began to accend and both the kobolds and swift arn't fully aware of there exsistence yet)

I figured V&V would take note of the new creatures relitivly fast as there life cycle would bring the same creatures before them relitivly rapidly, though I wasn't sure if they would see the creatures apearence as undesirable becouse they fed on the souls of others (almost exclusivly preditor aniumals but ocationaly others if nothing else is availible) or if they would see the creature as potentialy helpfull since they brought with them the soul energy they devoured as well as all the knoledge the souls contained, meaning V&V get large amounts fo soul energy and knoledge when these creatures come before them and are placed on the scale.

I am open to interactions both ways but please if it effects the kobolds then I will catch you on chat or soemthing so we can talk about it just want to make sure I basic idea for them isn't derailed compleatly, if it doesn't effect kobolds I am open to almost any interaction.

On the other note, I ben toying and working on fleshing out a idea for kobolds and probably other draconic creatures to make them similar to archons. Curently Kobolds could be concidered outsiders but still have more to work on with the idea. anyhows yea basicaly kinda is the direction I am taking them with kobolds adventualy accending to a new plane just goto do it in very small parts since PP is limited

Lastly thanks for the advice I will try to remember to bold important points of refrence probably a prety good idea concidering the size my posts tend to be and the dificulty in reading some of them. think I will try to remember to bold important parts and add key parts to PP to help point them out further

It's not an umlaut -- those only appear over ü, ä, and ö (and I know the numpad shortcuts for those letters only because of my 6 years of German). Anyways, I just used Windows 7's Sticky Notes program to have a little sticky-note containing Altaïr living on my desktop. Then, whenever I had need for it -- copy + paste!

Just a quick note in case people miss it: V&V have altered the Prime Material Plane. To sum it up, every other plane gets a single natural portal to the PMP. Other points of travel between the two would need to result to powerful rituals. That is primarily for non-gods/exarchs. For gods and exarchs, travel between the PMP and another plane (or another plane and the PMP) is possible at any point, it is just easiest at the natural portal. This means that if for some reason a god or exarch is involved in a chase scene, trying to jump planes at any random location will slow them down enough for their pursuer to catch them before they make it through.

Also, I would ask that anyone who has a plane that is connected to the PMP to identify where their natural portal between the two is... and probably mark it on the map. Or, since this is my project, if you just tell me where the portal is, I'll go mark it on the map for you.

Thanks

The difference is that a shape would be able to form nations, learn technologies, set up religions. Spawns take pretty much little to no maintenance after they are created. As long as you aren't planning on constructing the first grand Empire of the Sphinxes, I think it's a safe bet to say that they would be spawns.

On another note, would it have killed anyone to keep the whole "It's dark" thing for longer than about 3 posts? I mean, it wasn't even around for a full 24 hours, lets some other people in on the fun.

No, you read correctly, and yes, Timmy, your sphinx, as written now, is definitly not a legal action. In order to provide PP, it's have to be an artifact or exarch. And to provide 2, it would need to be a 6PP artifact or exarch.

Yeah... thats not a spawn.   Rules wise, i think you want some form of multi-person exarch, which we have done several times in the past... and sadly, you'll have to drop down to 1 PP (2 PP is like... mountain-range forming stuff... which no mortals should be able to do) and pick an action type... I would propose command, as that seems like something Sphinx could be good at.

So... Joran...

I'm going to attack you.  I think that this game has not had nearly enough conflict, and Altair is... in a bit of a mood right now.  To tip my hand, I'm moving in the direction of introducing undead as a more... 'permanant search party' for Vega and away from 'angry eye-in-the-sky' Sun.  While I like your change to the Shroud, to Altair... it is... not cool   Technically, my attack power is 8 (5 initial +2 artifact +1 PP to initiate)... but Altair is also a bit crazed right now... which I don't think is going to do great things for that value... so... how do you want to go about resolving this?  One option I see is that I smack you around a bit and then feel soul-crushing remorse and flee, leaving the Shroud as it is.

Also, maybe 5 days a year?  I think that would lend to some very interesting annual festivals during the 'long night'

SG:  Well, you could exarchize the race in question... that would certainly do the trick.  Or... you could convince everyone to always walk around in avatar form

Timmy, to note, a Beget Minor action is for creating new gods for other players. An exarch is a beget major, so you need to spend 3pp.

While an exarch can produce PP, it generally has to be tied to a specific command word and limiting situation (1PP towards aquatic spawns, 1PP towards nourishes that expand plantlife, etc). In your case, if I am understanding your intent right, we might be able to make an exception and say that it gives 1PP towards "knowledge" actions (that is, for the price of a part of a god's soul, a god can use it to find out otherwise secret information, within reason). What do the other admins think?

So, being the king of gods, yes you have the advantage over me, plus having 2 combat artifacts. So, lets see....discounting my earlier expenditures that leaves me with.......2 PP 1 from me and 1 from the weave. Even if I had a reset, at most I get 5PP.....Maybe I should invest into more for combat?

So, with that in mind, I hope Altair is up for a game of chase! It should be interesting to see where this will take us!

Joran, I noticed you spent a PP to innitiate combat. That actually isn't necessary: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

The short of that is, innitiating combat is free. Effectively, spending that 1 PP just boosted your combat ranking for the encounter. However, since you didn't know this, if you'd like to take that PP back, feel free to do so (the choice is yours).

As a general reminder: all artifacts have to wait until their first reset to start producing PP. This includes combat artifacts as well.
#477

joran1313

Sep 22, 2011 4:11:21
Ok...well then retract that last PP and it stands only at 6 PP for combat.

As for the staff...Technically, the initial 3 PP to create an artifact has been spent so thus this is its first reset. I call it half formed as I'm taking the time and extra effort to add in extra PP to allow it to become even stronger, but at the time I was short, so only 1PP is effectively available from it instead of the 2 that I'd need. Its like the throne if it was fully made, but only partially upgraded. Or does today not count as a reset?

Either way do what you will, what you may.

Joran, that comment wasn't directed at you specifically. It was just that with a lot of new combat artifacts being created, it seemed prudent to note when they come into effect. But thanks for clearing that up, regardless.

Timmy, Vasa doesn't know your god's name; I did, however, include it in the non-dialogue portion of my post so that it was clear who she was attacking in turn (attacking "that god over there" is a little vague), but that doesn't reflect Vasa's knowledge. As for how she knew your god was behind the attack, it seems like a reasonable connection. Qlenoya yelled out "attack" and immediately rats swarmed Altair. And as for why in general she'd side with Altair instead of anyone else, that would be because he is her father, she cares for him greatly, and he's the kind. It doesn't really matter to her if he is right or not.

don't think mortals can perceive god level artifacts just as they can't perceive gods themselves.

as for the loom I figured since swift had ben spending so much time avoiding magic as a resault of the initial contact with your god that he would need time to observe the weave before he could do anything with it (pluss wanted to leave lots of room in case you didn't want me messing with it)

Think I will wait till after the reset before posting again and creat chaotic magic spaces, wil have swift learne to manipulate the weave without the loom then as well then go in search of what happened to the god of magic to cause the weave to go so wrong.  though form my understanding all he should find is the blast site where your god vanished at and maybe other gods there if they don't move before then.

I think that the rule on Greater Artifacts (3pp) is that most mortals can't wield such objects solo-- it can be used in a group (like some sort of ritualistic environment), or heroes can weild greater artifacts. That is my perception of god-like artifacts, at least.

SG: We have had wild magic zones done in the past, so it's not to say that they are out of the question (in fact, that is a fantastic idea)

3 PPs are generally understood to be either, as Xeadin said, communal (a magical building or... perhaps some sort of distribuited artifact-driven ritual could work [now I have a fun idea!]) or god-specific.  In rare cases level 25+ characters might be able to get their hands on one, but they are meant to be just a little bit outside the range of something a mortal would be able to use on their own.

Sorry about the late reset... inlaws are in town and that has kept me away from my computer.  Updating the map now... then will post and reset in short order.

A bit of a heads up: I'll be moving a week from now and thus can't guarantee how active I'll be. I had hoped to be posting more often as is, but packing is all-consuming at this point and I expect that it will continue to be so up until the move. I will still try to be active, but just so you know in case that doesn't actually happen.

Timmy, keep in mind that Cantrips are mostly temporary or minor effects-- creating an arena is anything but (unless it's a fairly small arena). In any case, though, if you plan on keeping it there for a while, you're probably better off with a mold for the arena ;)

Oh, and if anyone is willing to start meddling with the Sky People, be my guest. I am open to
any interactions.
Keep in mind that the only way to interact with them thus far is by the portal at the top of the Tower of Hril, which might involve some sort of journey for some of the races. The top of the tower is like a lighthouse for many people, but a wall of clouds surround and swirl around the tower as well, so they'll be faced with an endurance challenge as well.

just to be sure you know, the sphinx knows everything. If you want to learn something from him, you have to give up something, and on the third time, you cease to exist. And as a result of him knowing everything, the odds you can keep him in captivity are practically impossible. So you just do whatever, I dont mind

A few questions born of curiosity

why did you stop posting the lvl / % towards next level for people
and more specificaly how far from next level would I be?

Also of althas could it be possible to use his god (using my PP) to create stuff that would be otherwise outside of swifts personality, Basicaly I desire to Claim one of the gods who vanished and don't plan to return, or to accend a second god so that I can develope some ideas that are outside of Swifts nature

Does the god of fear plan to ever return  anyhows let me know I could just use PP to acend a second god and use it and swift both

oh yea and updated all my junk on wiki again, hard to keap up with it all at times but I am prety sure it is all posted and linked to the Swift foot Catagory.

Added a Creat settlment button to the wiki so creating settlments is seperate from creating nations with difrent catagory, though might need to add a settlment catagory link on the wiki will check and do so if I forgot.

Is there any links or junk on wiki needing worked on?

Just to clarify so that nobody is confused on the actions I took on my last post:

The 4pp modify was a change to the storm archon's physical and spiritual changes when they split into two different groups. A command action would not have been enough to satisfy the changes I was looking toward.

You will also note no map from this past week.  I've been very busy and apparently the other admins have decided that I am the official 'resetter', so all I had time to do was say "RESET" this week.  Hopefully we will have the progressions back this coming week.  That said, we're not saying how close people in the (current) top tier of PP are from the next tier (mostly as we try to suss out the right timing to start giving people extra PP), so... can't tell you (I also don't know... thats Shadow's domain. )

Also of althas could it be possible to use his god (using my PP) to create stuff that would be otherwise outside of swifts personality, Basicaly I desire to Claim one of the gods who vanished and don't plan to return, or to accend a second god so that I can develope some ideas that are outside of Swifts nature

Well, I would request that you try and keep anything that you have Althas do match up with what Anubis would have done, but I at least don't see huge problems with this.

Does the god of fear plan to ever return  anyhows let me know I could just use PP to acend a second god and use it and swift both

I doubt he plans to return... but lets just stick with reanimating one dead God for now

think most of what althas might do would also be within swifts possibility, also figured someone might get upset if I use there god even if they don't plan to return so instead I will leave the exact origins unknown and just refer the actions to be from a god but not specify so that I have no fear of offending or upsetting someone even if they no longer plan to return \

though will be a couple resets away but want to make more of the evil races and such that the world all knows and loves yet we are lacking,

Xeadin, can you give me some details about what is around the Tower?  The Reaper... well, might want to make a bit of a demonstration

Well, to start off, the base of the tower has lots of jagged rocks and unusual landforms jutting upwards from the tower having been erected from the ground-up. There is a bridge which extends from the entrance of the tower to the beachhead that goes over these rocks.

There are high winds and a stormcloud surrounding the bulk of the tower-- making travelling across the bridge quite tough for most minor mortals and beings. The Reaper might not have much of a problem-- just would be somewhat of a nuisance for her.

Oooooookay.

With all of that finally finished as of... 25 minutes ago, back to LoC.

So Ara and I have talked about how we want to handle the Vega and Altair thing, and this is what we've decided on.

SG, your idea is a good one, but it would require basically rewriting every action that I ever did to either a) not happen or b)  happen in a Vega-like way... which seems to be a HUGE amount of Retcon that would be unpleasant for all involved

So we're thinking that things are opposite.  Altair remembered Vega when the rest of the world indicated she no longer existed... so now no one remembers Altair, but the universe is crying out plain as day (to those who look and really think) that he did.

So we're keeping the iconography of Altair... the Throne room will still have a sunburst over the main doorway, the Sun will still (for now) float through the sky despite the fact that the goddess of Darkness is King, The light-bearing monsters will still roam the forests... Just people won't be able to remember that it was Altair that did it.  Altair will become... a word... a gibberish word that, for some reason, every single person in the world knows without being taught, but which no one can make any sense of.

As for Vega, everyone thinks she's always existed, has always been King... but if they think about it for long enough... they get an odd feeling that something is off about the whole thing.
#550

joran1313

Oct 29, 2011 4:48:43
So, that is all fine and dandy, but how are you going to deal with Balist being out of the loop? As it where, when Altair descended as it was, Balist was in a pocket plane seperate from the prime universe as it was, thus leaving both unaware of the other. Altair/Vega as it is now, doesn't know that Balist is still alive and is unable to sense his anything... And also on the same coin, Balist doesn't know about Altair/Vega.

The question being posed is, Does Balist remain the one sole god that remembers Altair? Or is it that when finally emerges from his pocket plane, that he winds up like all of the others?

Either way, how is Vega going to react to having to attack her own son?

Many, many interesting questions arise from this. I do believe about 98-99% of the people aren't going to be bothered by this turn of events, but it was Altair's direct actions that turned Balist into what he is now. Something that can't be erased.
#551

Topheh

Oct 29, 2011 13:40:11
This is quite true.

Well, as I see it, your options are:

a)  Come out and think that Vega was the one that wronged you as you know it was the 'King of the Gods' who did it, and a nonsense word like 'Altair' couldn't have and go attack her... while my... erm... demise... was unexpected when Ara and I started interacting, most of the defenses that I set up in preparation for our grand showdown were tied into the Throne itself, not Altair personally, so that should be minimally affected.

b)  Come out remembering Altair and grow incredibly frustrated that you cannot seem to find him.  Launch an invasion of the entire world to draw him out.  Eventually approach the Zobaga and find Altair (whose face is NOT changed... he's still... him) on the battlefield and have some fun with him in whatever way your godly will demands.

c)   Emerge, devote your life to finding Altair and killing Vega so Altair can become a God again and then you can kick his butt in an appropriate manner.

d)  Errr.... Pumpkin Ravioli?
#552

stargazer_dragon

Oct 29, 2011 15:25:42
toph thats actualy prety well what I intended you just worded it much better then I did

though the library still has all the documents of what altair did and all even up to the events that sent him down not that even swift himself will find such small instence in the sea of knoledge contained within he will in time know of altair and that some force has altered memories and reality to try and remove him in essence from exsistence (for example everyone now thinking that vega created the sun and not fully recalling what altair even means)
#553

joran1313

Oct 29, 2011 16:21:48

as for the others.....well not sure yet, but Altair is going to be embrioled in a war regardless... between the cockroach...I mean goblin menace, and the zerg gith, the world is soon the be at war with itself.

Seeing as no one besides you has posted in over a week, I'm going to feel safe in calling this game ended. Personally, I'm done as everyone I was interacting with has gone idle, and I'm not interested in continuing what would essentially be a solo game.

If Ara, Toph, or Thought would like to declare otherwise though, feel free.

Sorry about my lack of posting in the past week. My pc died on me.

On a sad note, I agree with SG that it would be a rather sad and disappointing way to end the game, but as it is, there is no one else posting either, which to me also means the game is pretty much done. If any one else would like to say otherwise, please do, but I'm sad to see the end of this game, but it looks like its upon us.

Sorry, yeah, I've been really struggling to even catch up with the game, let alone be active in it. I haven't seen any of the admins (except for Shadow's post here) in quite some time. So I concur, the game should be considered at an end.

I suppose this might be a good time to also announce (for those still following) that I'm not planning on returning as an admin or player in the future. There have been some amazing times in the past (this game included), but I think I've largely worn out my creativity for gods, at least for the forseeable future. However, since I've been active in the development of LoC's since Galara, I thought it might be useful to share a bit of wisdom, in case others will get enthusiastic and start a new one sometime. Specifically, the rules aren't really that important. We've gone from having light rules to highly complex rules and they've generally had little impact on the game itself. And, further, vague rules sometimes seem to be the best: a lot of great creativity has happened in the grey area, where admins are forced to figure things out on the fly.

Anywho, it has been a pleasure and an honor. You can rest assured, my campaign worlds are much improved because of these.

if such is the case then I bow out to other games, I will not be returning as a player as this experience had ben much like playing d&D tilly our char gets good then stopping which leaves a sour tast was fun non the less and good luck, I will continue to use the idea on my personaly forum with my close freinds as it has helped us flesh out the realm a lot and over all has ben a sound idea

I posted a thread also on the group page, but I figured I would also try posting here just to cover my bases.

I see this game is over. Is there a game currently going or will be soon?
