| #1unicoreJul 21, 2010 16:25:45 | So I am gearing up to run a lower magic 3 character military campaign and ran across the Dragon article that talked about themes and was thinking about modifying the concept to use as a replacement for magic item powers in my campaign. The campaign is going to start with the level one characters in basic training but clearly the stand out recruits who will go long ways in the mercinary-turned national army which is the campaign basis. I was thinking that the themes would kick in around 3rd level to give the players some time before deciding what to choose, and would include at least one daily power and maybe a property or two. I was going to make three specific theme's for the Army in question and then a couple of regional themes based on the character's background (so I don't have to do more work for myself then necessary). I was thinking this would be a fun way to replace the item powers and give a little bit more specialization in the vein of prestige classes, which we will probably not get up to anyway, or at least not until much later because most of this campaign is going to be centered around a world war type scenario/ decidedly heroic level of play. DOes any one have any suggestions or know of any other attempts at something similar that would help me balance progression and scope of powers? |

The benefit of using item sets is that they're already themed, and bonuses scale as they are collected. Once you get the hang of them, start lumping together other existing items into homebrewed item sets. |
