If you roll low, the player is unlucky, and the character feels the pain. What if you wanted to play a character that IS lucky? Here is a feat I created to help represent lucky characters…sorry if it looks familiar. But, please let me know what you think. Lucky Benefit: Once per day, when you roll a 1d20 for anything you may roll a 1d6 and add or subtract (player’s choice) the result to the 1d20 roll. You can declare to use of this feat after you rolled a 1d20, but before the DM reveals the result of that roll. You don’t have to actually roll the die, you may let the DM know if you want to use the lucky feat on any 1d20 result he rolls. You must announce this before he tells you the result of the roll. In addition whenever you use an action point to gain another action, you may roll a 1d6 and add the result to one 1d20 roll during that extra action. (this includes attack rolls, saves, checks, or any other roll of a d20) |

One consideration is that this feat would give a PC a daily use of an Eberron-style action point. This might be a bit much, because in Eberron, a player has 5 action points to use for this or other uses at first level, and gets new action points only when gaining a level. I think that an easier way to make Lucky a feat is allowing a reroll. I'd have the feat say something like this. Benefit: Usable once per day. You can reroll a D20 before you see the effect of the roll. Trigger: you roll a D20 and do not like the result. Effect: you reroll the D20. You must keep the new result. Lucky is a good idea for a feat. It's good to see it used actively instead of simply providing a bonus to reflex, fortitude and will. |

| #4pigknightNov 02, 2008 23:17:39 | Dude?! BEING ON FIRE IS AWESOME!!! That's why! |
| #5KruskNov 02, 2008 23:35:46 | When would you ever want to reduce your roll? Because I think you can use this feat on a d20 roll that the DM makes against you, or for you. Meaning that monsters attack. |
| #6legdiwenaNov 03, 2008 1:16:29 | Because I think you can use this feat on a d20 roll that the DM makes against you, or for you. Meaning that monsters attack. His feat says when you roll a d20. |
| #7QubeNov 03, 2008 1:38:11 | Benefit: Usable once per day. You can reroll a D20 before you see the effect of the roll. only if you make a feat that once per day you can teleport, once per day you can use healing surge as a minor action ... (If you're giving the unique ability elves have, away as daily ... the same should be done for other races, no?) |
| #8legdiwenaNov 03, 2008 1:42:52 | Edition is not mentioned, but very similar to a feat from variant rules in Unearthed Arcana from 3.5. |
| #9KruskNov 03, 2008 8:38:02 | His feat says when you roll a d20. Indeed. But it also says You don’t have to actually roll the die, you may let the DM know if you want to use the lucky feat on any 1d20 result he rolls. You must announce this before he tells you the result of the roll. Not my fault the feat is worded oddly. It still does what I said. |
| #10legdiwenaNov 03, 2008 8:59:25 | Oops, man that is strange wording. |
| #11ThoughtNov 03, 2008 12:57:28 | Benefit: Usable once per day. You can reroll a D20 before you see the effect of the roll. I think merely keeping the new result isn't quite what the original poster wanted. While that would represent increased luck (good and bad), I think King Nate was going for someone with good luck. To represent good luck, maybe something as simple as choosing which number to keep: Effect: you reroll the D20. You may use either result as you choose. But that is a pretty large effect. For something more subtle, perhaps: Roll a D2 (otherwise known as a coin). If it is even, add you highest ability bonus to your D20 result. If it is odd, there is no effect. |
| #12king_nateDec 29, 2008 11:59:25 | Thanks for the responses, I know the feat is hard to understand...I'm not a game designer. Anyway, I have been away from the internet for awhile now, but I thought I would give my updated version of the feat (now feats and paragon path) and I tried to make the wording a little easier to understand. Heroic Feats Lucky Remarkable Luck Paragon Feat Uncanny Luck Paragon Path Lucky Bastard How does this look? PEACH. |
| #13vebrandssonDec 29, 2008 19:24:28 | I like, very nice, here is my thought for the 20 level power Out of Luck...............Lucky Bastard Attack 20 Your enemy is just about to realize that his luck has run out Daily ‡ Standard Action Ranged 5 Target: One creature Attack: Charisma vs Will Hit: The target takes a 1d8 luck penalty to all rolls it makes including damage and attack rolls (save ends) Aftereffect:The target takes a 1d4 luck penalty to all rolls (save ends) Though may I make a suggestion. Looking at some of the generic paragon paths that have showed up in dragon articles you should say that the powersource keyword for the power is the same as that of your primary class (it has been done before) and then for the two attacks you should let the player choose between Int, Dex, and Cha I think it would make it a more versatile paragon path than it is as written now. |
| #14Ninja_FerretDec 30, 2008 0:53:29 | I like the idea of this as a feat. Also there are times when you want to reduce your D20 roll. Especailly for Area attacks that end up catching your allys in the burst. use it to Lower your attack roll against them. |
| #15KruskDec 30, 2008 2:10:22 | Benefit: Once per day you may make a Lucky Roll. A Lucky Roll is a 1d4 and you add the result as a luck bonus to any 1d20 roll you make. No sure how this works? Did you mean a natural 4? or do you mean if you happened to roll a 20, you declare that you are using this, and then it auto refils? Specify uncanny luck changes the auto replenish on a max die roll of the lucky feat, and makes it occur on a 6. Paragon path -I would drop the prereq to Lucky, not remarkable luck. - Lucky Strike- Specify that this 18-20 crit range does not include any additions from the added luck bonus. - lucky save sort of sucks, my changes to beef it up- Roll 1d20. On a result of 1, nothing happens. 2-7 you regain 1 healing surge. 8-16 2 healing surges. 17-19 2 healing surges and regeneration 2 for the duration of the encounter or until reduced to 0 hp. 20 Full HP. |
