I would spend hours and hours with my Sorc, doing Meph runs to try and find better items. The key to this, the thing that made it all worthwhile, was an item trait lovingly referred to as magic find. It read like this "xx% better chance of finding a magic item". The actual game had a very complex way of determining this drop chance in reality, with tables and varied percentages based on how much absolute percent you had and whether it was a magic/rare/set/unique type item. While playing 3rd ed DnD, I often want to min/max my character. I've created many such amazing characters that took advantage of the rules our DM gave, but they've almost always been power-based and they wrecked the campaign, as I stomped through it. I'm power-hungry, and one way to do that is to roll over top of everything. Another way to do that is to find really sweet magic items, memorable ones and interesting ones. When you find stuff like that, you don't need to roll over as many enemies to feel strong (at least in my case). So the question is, is there any info at all about anything that would help you find more magic items? A character with an aura that increases item finding, or a treasure finding aura, ranks in knowledge (treasurefinding) or anything else at all? Or does none of that exist, because its entirely dependant on the DM giving you whatever items he chooses/the material gives him? |
