I'm working on a new setting, and I want some maps to use as a reference. If anyone could set me up with some pre-fabbed maps to use, or a tool to make my own maps, it would go a long way to helping me get my game off the ground, and I'd be really appreciative.

There is a thread on Maps in the FR:RealmsLore that you may use, with some photoshop magic.

I know there are a couple of programs, look in the Digital D&D forum, there are references there, im sure.

Are you looking for mapping styles?

I did all these using the Draw function on Microsoft Word.

Some of those are very good.

Did you use any templates to copy/paste? Im not familiar with the possibilities of Word draw function , but i would expect, from the samples above, that it gives something more that Paint does.

It allows you to build a collection of repeatable objects and do Hex or Square Grids by building up collections of Hexes or Squares- but it's a RAM Hungry option. At around a thousand objects the system has a heart attack and wont let you save doc. So it is OK for Small Images where you can do one level of the dungeon/building per word doc.

I would love to know how to record a tutorial on the Laptop while I do one of these and turn it into Video. Dont suppose you know how to do it?

@yellowdingo, those are good, I wouldn't think you'd be able to make maps like that using just Word. But I'm going for larger scale maps. I used a photo editor to put some of the examples given in the thread pruano listed together...

...so I have something I can use. It's not complete, of course, and this is just the product of thirty minutes worth of resizing and tidying up, but it's a start. I want to get more in on the current edges so it expands farther east and northwest. I want the players to start out in just this one country, so I don't have to develop the entire world right away.

Actually I used MS Word to do the drawing for all of them. I used Paint to convert it into a JPEG.

If you dont mind a low quality artwork that wasnt created using CAD or the more popular Adobe products.
