It's based on my current understanding of marking. From what I gather, at least some of the marking powers are supposed to operate under the idea that you're so focused on a specific target that it makes it dangerous for that target to ignore you. If he does, you get bonuses to hit him or damage, or what have you. My thought on a house rule is to add what seems to be the logical extension - if you're that focused on the target you are marking, then other enemies who aren't marked (and who you aren't focusing on) should likewise receive a bonus to hit you. Now it might sound like you've taken away the benefit, but not necessarily. It would make sense to mark a powerful target even though minions or less powerful targets in the area have a better chance of hurting you. Also, it adds a bit more risk to focuses so closely one enemy at the expense of concentrating on the battle at large. Thoughts? |

Also, 4th edition philosophy really seems to be removing all the negative and instead implementing nothing but positive. You may want to, instead, create a power that grants marking bonuses vs. people that have marked targets other than yourself. This would be an excellent power to give to your minions and other low life monsters that are typically ignored. Essentially, you are escaping the need to "take away" something from the player, but you are still taking advantage of them marking everything like a new, hormone-driven, male cat in your house. ![]() ***** |

Hey, thanks. That's not a bad idea. I'll keep it in mind. Me and my group play a pretty gritty, deadly campaign, and we've got some nasty rule modifications going that can make things tough on characters. No one complains. I don't think I'd have too much trouble with that. But I do like your idea. |
