Memorable Locations

I'm fleshing out a campaign setting that I've been using for a couple of campaigns, and I could use some help adding in cool locations-I've sort of run out of ideas 20 pages in, and I've still got a lot of blank space to fill. So, I've turned here to get some inspiration.

Guidelines:
The setting is medium-magic, medium-power. The nations of the world in locked in a cold war with each other while threats from the unsettled portions of the world push inward at them. There isn't much open war; nations settle their differences with espionage and intrigue, and the external threats aren't big enough yet to really threaten them. There isn't any real magical terrain; no flying islands or whatnot.

Example:

Lathuol is a city built on the sides of a narrow gorge around a waterfall. The city controls a group of cranes that move cargo over the falls; the river connects a major trading hub with a decent port, so there's a lot of traffic. There are a number of bridges spanning the gorge, which is about 100 feet at its widest. Homes and buildings are actually dug out of the stone of the gorge, but streets and walkways are built out from the rock face. The part of the city upstream of the falls is called the upper city, and is filled with the well-to-do since it doesn't have as much mist from the falls. The downstream part of the city is called the lower city, and most of the warehouses, lower-class homes and taverns are situated here.

You don't have to be that detailed, any cool ideas that you've thought of or played through would be appreciated.

If you haven't already, take a look at the sticky New Points of Light (and Dark) thread. It's basically an epic list of extremely memorable locations, tending towards the dark.
