Just wondering if there is any reason Warforged have to be full-sized?

I was just thinking that an NPC child (princess?) with a "toy" warforged companion/guard would be quite amusing.

Of course, completely making that up is fine, I was just wondering if anyone had ever heard of something like that done.

One of the 3e monster manuals had small sized warforged that were designed for stealth instead of front-line combat. Mechanically, I think the only difference between them and regular warforged was the size reduction to small and the customary (-2 str, +2 dex) that small races seemed to often get.

Usually, Warforged are to be made for, well, war. But that sounds pretty cool. Just augment the size to small and it's solid.

Well there's a small sized warforged mini, so it had to have come up at some point.

>_<

I wasn't thinking of this originally, but I was just struck by a funny.

Pintsize in a Samurai costume.

Anyway, I was thinking of leaving the stats alone, and making it fairly high level (about the same as the party, or something, eventually). The mental picture of a 3' toy guard kicking some assassin butt was what got the idea started. :P

Warforged Scout from Monster Manual III, pretty much as you say ;).

Warforged (and the Charger and Scout variants) appear in my 3.5 homebrew setting. Initially, I thought about making them the same size as Dwarves (4 to 4-1/2 feet tall).

Gamewise, that would make them Medium-sized creatures (just like Dwarves in 3.5 and 4e). I'd originally intended Warforged to have been a creation of the Dwarves; ultimately, I settled on having the Warforged enslaved by the Dwarves (until they eventually revolted, resulting in a genocidal war between the two).

If I was doing this for my campaign, I would add a little extra ridiculous. Maybe the little guy can make hard candy in a machine behind his chest plate? Or has a hairbrush that retracts into his arm to help keep the princess looking cute?:P

Or if the halflings or gnomes of the world invented Warforged, they would be small sized because their creators would have an easier time creating/training/working with them...and the Great Halfling Kingdom could give one of their "marvelous machines" to the Emperor of the Empire of Human. And even though the small sized warforged might be a level 15 fighter who is absolutely deadly with a pair of flaming shortswords and has uber-super adamantine armor...the king may see the size and give it as a "dolly" to the princess...and get confused why assassins attacking the princess always end up lacerated and burned.

Or even more extreme...a Tiny sized Warforged made by faeries...could happen...would be interesting to say the least...I guess that would be like a toy soldier only deadlier...

If I was to give it stats, I would leave it the same except that it is small sized and can't use 2-handed weapons (same as Halflings). Then give it a +2 Stealth for the heck of it.

Oh hey, I overlooked that part. :D

If it is Tiny, all the more fun. Though the warforged scout of 3ed sucked.

If the warforged is tiny, new options also become available feasibly. Namely wings, which could be used to make a really nasty warforged melee combatant, or an impressive spell caster.

To be completely serious about this, I suggest the following changes for a small sized Warforged.

Ability Scores: +2 Con, +2 Dex
Skill Bonuses: +2 Endurance, +2 Stealth
Size: Small

If you feel the limitations on weapon choices needs balancing, I'd suggest this:
Feat Access: May pick Lost in the Crowd, Underfoot, Halfling Stalwart, Lucky Skirmisher, or Ankle Cutter as if a Halfling.

let it get all of the warforged abilities too. In 4th small is a pretty big penalty.

Of course, the above was just what would be different from a regular warforged.
