| #1ChimerasameAug 17, 2009 22:54:47 | This is a testament to how bored I can be at work. I apologize. This isn't really meant to be played, but I did try to make it at least nominally balanced, while being somewhat true to the fictional source. I'm not sure what it should get as an "action" feature. Chakra Gate Master Prerequisite: Monk ??? Action: When you spend an action point, ??? Body as Soul (11th level): Choose Wisdom or Strength. You may use your Constitution modifier in place of that score's modifier for secondary effects of monk powers, and in place of that score's modifier for skill checks using that score. Blinding Speed (16th level): While wearing cloth armor or no armor, you gain a bonus to speed equal to your Constitution modifier. Gate of Opening Chakra Gate Master Attack 11 You open the first gate, and overcome your instincts restraining your muscles from working at their full capacity, and unleash a mighty attack upon your foe. Your body reels from the effects of exerting yourself beyond your natural maximum. Encounter <> Full Discipline, Psionic, Weapon Attack Technique Standard action Melee weapon Requirement: You must be wielding a monk weapon. Target: One creature Attack: Dexterity vs. AC Hit: 4[W] + Dexterity modifier damage, and you may slide the target a number of horizontal squares equal to 2 + your Constitution modifier, or you may slide the target upwards a number of squares equal to your Constitution modifier. Effect: At the end of your turn after you save against any existing effects, you become dazed (save ends.) Movement Technique Move action Personal Effect: You fly your speed + 2. If you end the movement in the air, you fall to the ground below you immediately. You may use the attack technique at any point during this movement. Gate of Healing Chakra Gate Master Utility 12 You open the second gate, and restore your stamina. Daily <> Psionic Free Action Personal Effect: You may immediately make a save for one effect on you that causes the immobilized, dazed, slowed, or weakened condition, and you get a +5 bonus to this save. Advanced Gate Technique Chakra Gate Master Attack 20 You unlock your body's potential, stressing yourself far beyond safe limits, and you attack your foe with devastating power. Daily <> Psionic, Weapon Special: When you use this power, choose whether to open your third, fourth, or fifth gate. Third Gate Standard action Melee weapon Requirement: You must be wielding a monk weapon. Attack: Dexterity vs. AC Hit: 5[W] + Dexterity modifier + Constitution modifier damage. Effect: You shift your speed before or after the attack. You may slide the target to a spot adjacent to where you end this movement. At the end of your turn after you save against any existing effects, you become dazed and immobilized (save ends), with aftereffect: slowed (save ends.) Fourth Gate As third gate, but you shift your speed +2, and neither you nor your target need remain in contact with a horizontal surface. You and your target fall to the ground immediately if in the air at the end of the effects of this power. You instead become stunned (save ends) with aftereffect: immobilized (save ends). Fifth Gate As fourth gate, but you shift double your speed, and you deal maximum damage if you hit the target. You become helpless (save ends), with aftereffect dazed and immobilized (save ends). Epic Feat Ultimate Gate Training Prerequisite: 21st level, Chakra Gate Master paragon path You may choose these effects when you use your Advanced Gate Training daily power. Sixth Gate You perform the attack listed under 'fourth gate' twice on the same target with a single standard action. Instead of the usual detrimental effects, at the end of your turn after you save against any existing effects you become helpless (save ends) with aftereffect stunned (save ends). Seventh Gate You perform the attack listed under 'fourth gate' three times with a single standard action. These attacks need not be against the same target. Instead of the usual detrimental effects, at the end of your turn after you save against any existing effects, you are at 0 hit points and are unconscious and dying. When you become conscious again, you are stunned (save ends.) Eighth Gate You perform the attack listed under 'fifth gate' five times with a single standard action. These attacks need not be against the same target. Instead of the usual detrimental effects, at the end of your turn, you are at the negative of your bloodied value of hit points, and you are dead. |

Other then that, it seems fairly cheesy, especialyl at higher levels, and has way, way more support then paragon paths should have. I suppose it'd make up for the utter lack of current monk support, but it's still pretty damn cheesy in places, and moreover, I can barely read it with a straight face. |
| #3ChimerasameAug 17, 2009 23:09:20 | Out of curiosity, do you actually know what the chakras are, or are you just borrowing heavily from Naruto? I know next to nothing about 'real' chakras! Other then that, it seems fairly cheesy, especialyl at higher levels, and has way, way more support then paragon paths should have. One single epic feat with a prereq of a path is "way, way more support"? It's true I don't know of any precedent for it, but I didn't think it warranted two 'way's ;) I can barely read it with a straight face. Good! |
| #4KerrusAug 17, 2009 23:14:14 | Way, way more support in that it gives you access to a lot of options that really, really, should each be their own feat, or at least otherwise restricted. I know it's nice to be able to take one feat and suddenly have the moon, sun and stars in your pocket, but it's rather cluttered all told. Moreover, the option to just open arbitrary levels of gates is kind of... out of place- if anything, they should have some sort of counter system- like the darkspiral aura. Your action point thing could increase that counter, and when you activate your gate, you can 'spend' the counters. Stick the higher levels of gate all in the power description, give the PP more prerequisites, and then have the epic level feat give the counter ability a higher minimum, which in turn means you can access higher gates faster, or start at a higher gate right off the bat initially. |
| #5ChimerasameAug 17, 2009 23:22:12 | I was also considering simplifying things by denying access to some 'intermediate' gates which we never hear/see full effects of, like fourth and seventh. (It'd just skip 3-5-6-8.) Arguably the 8th gate isn't a "real" option anyway, except once a campaign. Except--you can rez the character, which makes the detriment less effectual than it really should be. It's meant to be a final blaze of glory, which doesn't work as well in a game with rezzing. Perhaps I should add the rider that characters who die in this manner can't be resurrected. I'm not familiar with darkspiral aura; I'll have to look over it sometime. |
| #6shadowlegendxiiiSep 15, 2009 13:49:15 | Are Monk Weapons any Unarmed weapons? If so, here is something I got for your ??? action class feature
Swift Fist Action (change name if need by): When you spend an Action point to make an Attack with a Monk power, you can attack as a free action after the first attack with a Monk Weapon (if your are equiped with one). If you are wearing Cloth or No Armor, you can shift 2 squares before this attack. Also, for your 5th Gate, It seems really good, but I think it might be better if you add just a bit more power and make it so you fall Unconsious (save ends) then Helpless (save ends) The Feats seem really good too. I really like your imagination. I was trying to make a Pirate Paragon Path for Rogue, but never got to it ^^;; |

| #8ChimerasameSep 15, 2009 17:51:34 | You did all this while you were at work? Dude i want a job with you! Well, it was really more like, my task on that particular day was so mindless that I could think about whatever I wanted--then I went home on break or something and typed it up. Benefits of living really close to work, I spose. It's not terrible, but it's not like I can just write up paragon paths every day. ;) |
