| #1SurrealistikOct 14, 2010 21:59:06 | Figured Monk Unarmed Strikes could use some love via feat support. Enjoy: Heroic Tier Show Parrying Fist Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: While both of your hands are free, your off-hand has the Defensive property. Two Fisted Defense Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Parrying Fist feat, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: While both of your hands are free, your shield bonus to AC and Reflex increases by 1. Two Fisted Fighting Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: While both of your hands are free, you gain a +1 bonus to the damage rolls of melee and close attacks that you make with your monk unarmed strike. Thousand Fist Style Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: While both of your hands are free, you gain a +1 bonus to damage dealt by your Flurry of Blows power for each enemy adjacent to you that you can see. Unarmed Specialization Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: When you make a melee basic attack using your monk unarmed strike, you can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls. Sweeping Blows Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: Before using a Monk at-will or encounter attack power with your monk unarmed strike, you can choose to take a -2 penalty to each die of damage rolled with the power to increase the size of its close blast or its close burst by 1. That power deals a minimum of 1 damage. You can’t use this feat on a power that doesn’t roll dice for damage. Ki Grapple Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: While both of your hands are free, you can add your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to attack rolls made to grab a target, and a creature you have grabbed must make its escape checks against your Reflex even if it uses Athletics. Unarmed Strike Expertise Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: You gain a +1 feat bonus to implement and weapon attack rolls that you make with your monk unarmed strike. This bonus increases to +2 at 11th level and +3 at 21st level. Whenever you hit a creature using your monk unarmed strike, your Flurry of Blows power deals +2 bonus damage to that creature until the end of your current turn. Unbalancing Parry Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Parrying fist, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: While both of your hands are free, when you use the total defense action until the start of your next turn, any adjacent creature that misses you with an attack grants combat advantage to you until the end of your next turn. If it was already granting combat advantage to you, you can slide that creature 1 square, or knock it prone as an immediate reaction. Impenetrable Parry Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: While both of your hands are free, when you use the total defense action, the bonus to your defenses equals the highest of your Constitution, Strength, and Wisdom modifiers. Diamond Strike Style Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, Parrying fist feat, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: While both of your hands are free, when you use the total defense action, you deal extra damage on damage rolls equal to your Dexterity modifier on monk attack powers made using your monk unarmed strike until the end of your next turn. Dragon Flight Style Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Monk, trained in Athletics, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: You can use your Wisdom or Constitution modifier instead of your Strength modifier when making Athletics checks to jump. While both of your hands are free, whenever you make an Athletics skill check to long jump, your next attack made using your monk unarmed strike gains a bonus to its first damage roll equal to the number of squares you jumped across until you move or until the end of your current turn. |

| #3misterarcaneOct 16, 2010 20:52:21 | It looks spiffy overall.. nothin really lept out ay me as 'wrong' with two exceptions... Iron soul is all about using weapons, so it's kinda weird giving it unarmed bonuses... and greater unarmed strike allows you to have 1-handed 1d12.. which is kinda getting powerful and the epic advancement is way too powerful, even for epic. Comboing dual-weilded 1d12 off-hand high crit brutal 2 weapons with some multi-classed powers from, say, ranger or barbarian? Ouch. |

Comboing dual-weilded 1d12 off-hand high crit brutal 2 weapons with some multi-classed powers from, say, ranger or barbarian? Ouch. True, but it does take 3 feats to get there, 1 of them paragon and another epic. I suppose I could change it so it's high crit only. As for the Iron Soul Bastion power, it's primarily there for symmetry :P. Added some new stuff, fixed some wording, nerfed Superior Unarmed Strike. |
| #5misterarcaneOct 17, 2010 19:38:29 | yeah.. it was simply that even with a notable feat investment.. it was still a better weapon than anything in the game by far.. I mean, such a weapon is near-impossible to get on a two hander(+3 prof, off-hand, 1d12, high-crit, brutal 2) let alone a one-hander. And I'd make the iron-soul one say that your unarmed strike now counts as a weapon for the purposes of your monk class features and powers. |
| #6SurrealistikOct 19, 2010 14:48:31 | Added the Diamond Strike Style and Dragon Flight Style series, and Deflecting Fist: Deflecting Fist Paragon Tier Prerequisite: 11th level, Monk, Parrying Fist feat, Unarmed Combatant class feature Benefit: While both of your hands are free, if a ranged basic attack misses you, you can choose to have the attacking creature reroll the attack against a creature of your choice within 5 squares of you, and within the attack's range as an immediate reaction. If you are subject to the effects of the total defense action, you can choose to do so as a free action instead. |
| #7kais3000Oct 21, 2010 3:25:40 | Some of these feats are overpowered and some of these feats don't do anything. Here's my list of proposed changes: Two Fisted Defense This feat doesn't actually do anything as the Parrying Fist feat gives the monk's unarmed strike the defensive property. The defensive porperty is not a +1 shield bonus to AC and as such Two Fisted Defense does not increase the monks defenses in anyway. As another note on this feat the monk does not need any help in its defenses department. If you start giving it feats like this it'll up end with the same defense overpoweredness that the Avenger used to have. I would suggest getting rid of this feat altogether |
| #8SurrealistikOct 21, 2010 10:52:16 | Two Fisted Defense is fine, given Rhythm Blade shenanigans. Improved Two Fisted Defense I'm not so sure about. I could axe that without too much of a loss. Second, increasing a shield bonus of 0 by +1 results in a shield bonus of +1. Again see Rhythm Blade. Sweeping Blows is directly ported from the wording of Enlarge Spell, so your objections are really with the wording of that spell. I guess it wouldn't hurt to add a clause stating that the attack cannot do less than 1 damage. Disagree with it being 'overpowered' given Wizards have access to something basically identical, though granted, there are plenty of crit-fishing feats here. Restraining Grapple: I had thought there was a Fighter feat which was virtually the same, but I guess not as I can't seem to find it in the compendium. I had put in it Heroic based on the assumption that such a feat existed. Unarmed Strike Expertise: The identification of the strike as a weapon was made in response to MisterArcane and didn't previously exist since I had initially assumed it did count as one. Yes, current is missing. Punishing Grapple: Yep. Unbalancing Parry: That was the original wording, and I thought it was a little underwhelming. It needs some sort of perk beyond granting combat advantage if the activator is already granting it. Greater Monk Unarmed Strike: Is +1 average damage +2 max from 1d10 really that big a deal in exchange for a Paragon tier feat? I'm not convinced. Thousand Fist Master: Agree. +1 per adjacent enemy beyond the first to a max of +3 I'm thinking. Ki Projection: Keep in mind that it requires a 2 feat investment; one Paragon, one Epic, and only applies to Monk melee touch attacks with an Unarmed Strike. That's pretty damn specific, and precludes a lot of cross class/hybridizing cheese. I do note that it's something of a downside that you're unable to use your flurry of blows against the target, but then, you can still use your flurry of blows against adjacent enemies as normal. Deft Counterstrike: I don't see the problem. Yes it's powerful, even for an Epic feat, but it requires 1 epic, 1 paragon and 1 heroic tier feat, you're still limited to 1 opportunity attack per turn, and you're still limited to 1 free action attack per turn. Further, it is reactive, and requires that the enemy attack you while adjacent to you. Spirit's Sundering Fist: I agree it can be broken with a crit-fisher build in conjunction with optimized party members. I'll change it so that it has vulnerable 15 to your attacks only. |
| #9misterarcaneOct 21, 2010 20:34:38 | The 'unarmed as armed' was sugested for the iron-soul monk who needs to be armed for some of their stuff to work... maybe a different wording is in order? Hmmm.. deft-counter-strike is kinda powerful, but there's some things like polearm gamble that's sorta similar in paragon... |
