| #1osothebearJul 31, 2009 11:30:25 | So I was thinking about how to make a 4e version of the Thought Eater. Old-skoolers know, this thing was comically ridiculous. It was basically a flying, ethereal platypus that drained intelligence. Mechanically approximating the creature is not what I am having trouble with. Rather, to make something "ethereal" in 4e, it needs to be invisible and insubstantial. What I'm wondering about is how much perpetual invisibility/insubstantial-ness will bump up the monster level. Could a quick fix like reducing the thing's hp to account for how much less it will get hit be viable, or should I just impose a 3.x-style "level adjustment?" Hoping this is an interesting question for some, and also to see some interesting responses. EDIT: I've appended my first attempt at making the thing so you can PEACH and see what I mean. He's got about 2/3 the hp of a normal 2nd lvl lurker. http://ddiwiki.wikidot.com/thought-eater |
