| #1AtuaJan 08, 2009 18:11:28 | Ok, I originally submitted this in the 4e Races and Monsters section, but didn't get much of a response. Hopefully I will have some more luck here. I have two 4th edition monsters I was hoping people could review and indicate if they are balanced for their level. I will try to keep it clear, and only add in the stat block. Monster 1: Goblin Shooter – Level 2 Minion (31XP) Small natural humanoid Initiative +5 Senses Perception +2; low-light vision HP 1 AC 16; Fortitude 12, Reflex 14, Will 11 Speed 6; see also goblin tactics Hand Crossbow (standard; at-will) + Weapon Ranged 10/20; +9 vs AC; 5 damage Goblin Tactics (immediate reaction, when missed by a melee attack; at-will) The goblin shifts 1 square Alignment Evil Language Common, Goblin Skills Stealth +12, Thievery +12 Str (+3) Dex 18 (+5) Wis 13 (+2) Con 13 (+2) Int 8 (+0) Cha 8 (+0) Equipment Leather armor, hand crossbow with 20 bolts and Monster 2: Shifter Druid - Level 3 Controller (150XP) Init: +3 Perception +5 Hit Points: 33 Defenses: AC: 16 Fort: 14 Ref: 14 Will: 16 Wild Shape (Minor; At-will) As a minor action transform into a beast. Storm Spike (Standard; At-will) Ranged 10, +5 vs Ref; 1d8 + 5 lightning damage and if the target does not move at least 2 squares it takes an extra 4 damage at the end of its next turn. Savage Rend (Standard; At-will) +5 vs Ref; 1d8 + 4 and slide the target one square Encounter Power Chill Wind (Standard; recharge on a 5 or 6) Area Burst 1 within 10, +5 vs Ref; 1d6 cold damage; Push the target three squares. Faerie Fire (Standard; encounter) Area burst 1 within 10; +5 vs Will; Target is slowed and grants combat advantage (save ends both). Aftereffect: Target takes 3d6 + 4 radiant damage and grants combat advantage until the end of its next turn. Razorclaw Shifting (Minor; Only usable while bloodied; Encounter) Until the end of the encounter, druid’s speed increases by 2 and AC and Reflex are increased by 1. Str 10 (+0) Dex 14 (+2) Wis 18 (+4) Con 16 (+3) Int 12 (+1) Cha 8 (-1) Primal Guardian Feat: Raging Storm Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
| #2RUMPLESTIXJan 08, 2009 18:36:25 | A couple questions about this:Wild Shape (Minor; At-will) What are the limitations on the beast chosen? What affect does this have on mechanics: defenses, attacks, movement, etc. Also, I think that both minor and at-will might be to big of a combination. If the druid gains different mechanical advantages for different forms, it could switch to a good attack form every round to attack and then switch to a good form for defense and do it every round. Back and forth. If it doesn't gain a mechanical benefit, then it seems to be a useless power, although it adds some flair. |
| #3RUMPLESTIXJan 08, 2009 18:39:01 | Also did I interpret the post as saying you gave it a feat? Was that just explaining the logic in the construction or is it something that modifies the list of powers. I'm asking because I am not familiar with them. Edit note: Stupid me, forgetting raging storm. However, what is primal guardian and where can I find it? |
| #4RUMPLESTIXJan 08, 2009 18:48:08 | What is P.E.A.C.H.? I see it a lot in this subforum. |
| #5AtuaJan 08, 2009 20:02:35 | Wow, triple post by Rumplestix. Thanks for your responses .In reply, for your first two replies, the information on Primal Guardian and Wild Shape is covered in the Druid preview. If you don't have access to this, that might be a problem (I don't think I can provide you with the details as it is DDI related, but if someone else is willing, go ahead and be my guest). With regards to wild shape though, stats don't change (def, movement, etc), it just grants access to beast form powers. I also added raging storm to explain the extra +1 point of damage to the Storm Spike ability. With regards to P.E.A.C.H., I only found this out a couple of hours ago. It stands for: Please evaluate and critique honestly. What do you think of the first monster though (Goblin Shooter)? Any issues there? |
| #6RUMPLESTIXJan 08, 2009 20:08:10 | I like it, but you put the adjusted by level strength bonus and left out the strength. off-topic: I thought it might have been DDI, but I'll do my best to help w/o it. I might get it, but I was just wanting a completed character builder first. |
| #7AtuaJan 08, 2009 20:38:09 | Thanks for your response again Rumplestix. I will fix the typo with regards to the Strength in the Goblin Shooter. Does anyone have access to the Druid Playtest so that they could examine the Druid monster. I have modded the Chill wind power a bit, and I was hoping it wouldn't be an issue. |
