I own (almost) all the books it draws on, but I use the Adventure Tools extensively when crafting my campaigns. I find it is a wonderful resource and very easy to use. I would like to hear other people's feedback on using the level adjustment on monsters though. While I like the idea of being able to adjust the villian to my party's level, I find a lot of the fights where I use adjusted monsters tend to go a little wonky. Monsters I increase in level still seem to underperform, while monsters I reduce almost kill the party. What are your experiences?

Adjusting by +/- 4 or more levels tends to cause issues. This is normal, as they're not really on the same scale, you're just getting them 'close enough'...

The adventure tools is still scaling based on the old math, IIRC. (It certainly doesn't correct the base math of existing creatures.) This will cause level increased creatures to be weaker than they should be and leave level decreased creatures stronger than they should be.

In addition to what Necronomikron said about the level range, the nature of monster abilities also undergoes significant shifts across the tier brackets and sometimes within the tier brackets, which the builder usually can't account for, so be very careful if you're crossing a tier boundary when you scale something.
