I'm putting together a pirate campaign setting, and I've run into a bit of a snag. I'm having a hard time figuring out why clerics/paladins would join up with a pirate crew. Any ideas?

For the same reason anyone else would.  Money, revenge, adventure etc.  Nothing makes divine characters special in their motivations.

'Cause they be gnarled men and shadowy women who stick fast ta the old ways of the ancient sea gods. They know to spit 'tween their fingers ta ward off the evil eye 'n' ta ne'er kill an albatross, or the stone-thrower has ta wear it 'round the neck lest the crew share their blamed fate.
