After the additional mounts in Adventurer's Vault, I've been hoping for some extra goodies for the cavalry, but nothing so far (I wonder if/what they'll do for paladin mounts in DP...) Understanding that this won't be for everyone, that horses wouldn't be comfortable in dungeons, etc., etc., here's a few ideas I'll toss out for discussion and exploration. First, some feats. Bond of Protection - prerequisite: Mounted Combat. When riding a creature that has a Mount power, you may use the Bond of Protection power once per encounter: Bond of Protection - Encounter Immediate Interrupt - Mount Trigger: when you or your mount is hit by an attack Effect: You and your mount each take half of the damage from that attack. Trick Rider - prerequisite: Mounted Combat. When riding a creature that has a Mount power, whenever you or your mount moves or is moved, the two of you can move together. Resilient Mount - prerequisite: Mounted Combat, or Beastmaster Ranger. Once per encounter, when you spend a healing surge, a creature you are riding can regain as many hit points as you do. Quick Mount - prerequisite: Mounted Combat, trained in Acrobatics. You may mount or dismount as a minor action. |

A Cavalier is a master of fighting from the back of a horse, or any other creature employed to carry people into battle. While the mount doe snot have the close bond that ragners have with their companions, the cavalier can dominate the field with the superior mobility and fighting platform that the mount offers. The Cavaliers Mount: Most of a cavalier's abilities depend on the presence of 'your mount.' If you are actually riding a creature which has a Mount power, that is your mount. You can designate a single such creature as your own; a creature designated as your particular mount in this way need only be within sight and hearing to benefit from any power or class feature. If you are riding a different creature than your previously designated mount, the one you are currently riding is the only one you can use with your mount powers and features. A different creature can be designated as 'your mount' during an extended rest. Equestrian Mobility: When you spend an action point to take an action, your mount may take a move action in addition, either before or after your own action. Fight As One: Whenever you take a Second Wind, your mount gains all the same benefits as you do - regain the same number of hit points, the same bonus to defenses, and any other effects you gain. Power: Cavalry Assault - At-Will Standard Action - Mount Target: one creature Effect: Your mount may move its speed as part of this action; at any point during this movement, you may make a basic attack against any target in range. You must be riding the mount to use this power. Power: Airs Above the Ground - Encounter Minor Action - Mount Effect: your mount gains a fly speed equal to its normal speed until the beginning of your next turn. If it already has a fly speed, your mount may shift its fly speed immediately as a free action. Power: Cavalier's Rage - Daily Standard Action - Mount You and your mount each make a basic attack against every enemy which is adjacent to your mount. You must be riding to use this power. ...obviuously, just a rough start. |

Strike on the Run You can fire your beloved weapon not only while mounted, but while riding! Prerequisites: Mounted Combat. Ranged weapon + proficiency. Encounter * Martial Minor Action As per wepaon. Target: As per weapon. Attack: As per weapon. Hit: As per weapon. You may use your ranged weapon from a mount without penalty. As a minor action you may fire from your mount while it is in motion (without penalty), effectively you perform a partial move at mount speed, attack (standard action), then complete your mount move, assuming no successful immediate interrupt halts you. Starting or completing adjacent to an enemy invites opportunity attack. |
