A question for writing directors

We've starting getting a lot of mods out there(and some people are complaining about lack of continuity). There are a lot of mods out there. So here's the question:
If you're a writing director for one of the regions, what 10 or less mods would you run to give people a strong sense about your region's place in the world? This can include CORE mods, other regional mods, and/or suggestions for places where a MYRE might make a lot of sense. In rough order if possible.

I'm not looking for spoilers at all(as I've already played many of the mods). I'm looking for what writing directors consider the best way for a character to gain a campaign perspective.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you're going for.  With ten or fewer adventures, the answer almost without exception becomes "all 7-8 of my region's adventures, and zero adventures from CORE or any other region".  Doesn't really narrow it down at all.

If you want the selection to narrow down your choices, ask which 3 or 4 adventures give more info about the state of the region.

While regional adventures will likely feature heavily in a single WD's suggestion, one hopes other regionals/cores can also play a role.
That is definitely the case with the Dalelands adventures, anyway (since we have some ties to Cormyr and Dragoncoast).
Some information about that is forthcoming (hopefully this weekend).

I am not sure what to say other than align the Waterdeep adventures by level band and play them.  You will find a fairly coherent story IMHO.  Hopefully each Waterdeep adventure has the unique Waterdeep flavor to it.

Although we discussed ideas for regional cross-adventures which Waterdeep would be tied to, we have not reached any agreements.  There are a couple of COREs with mentions of Waterdeep.  CORE2-3 mentions Waterdeep, but it does not highlight the city in any way.   CORE1-9 starts in Waterdeep with some interaction with a couple of NPCs, then moves to another region.  I am not sure how it would fit in a story arc.

I have noticed myself that waterdeep definately has a flavor to it's mods, probably the most defined of them all.  Akanul has some good ties to it's regionalness.  Cormyr made me feel like I was working in a land ruled by a king etc.  Dalelands seems scattered, but that is almost the definition of the dales, there is a coherent story or two in there but it's spread out, like the land.

The Moonshae's have the isolationist feel to them and to be fair I think MOST of the regions give the feeling of being connected to the realms properly, it just depends on how well you know the realms to recognize those connections.  Looking for the old school 2.0 and 3.5 realms while playing won't help, most of that stuff is gone.

Which is more than you can say for Akanul.  Is there a reason AKAN 1-1 was set in Akanul?   A ruined city with goblins could go anywhere.

It was probably written before the FRCG and FRPG was even in draft form. And they had just draft monsters. Not saying it is my favorite mod, but I think a lot of factors made it what it is.

AKAN1-1 was set in Akanul in order to (and I may be mistaken here, this is all simply conjecture on my part!) bring focus on the displaced Genasi and fantastic terrain (ie: earthmotes) of the surrounding area.

If I recall correctly, and it's entirely possible that I don't, the adventure was not only submitted but also completed well before the FRCS/ FRPG were made available.  It was extremely early in the campaign and I believe one of the first adventures written?

I've run it several times for various groups, and I've actually found it to be one of the most adaptable for differing playgroups.  It's crazy easy to pump up the FR (Akanul) flavor in any of the encounters!

Just my opinion of course. ;)

Even if that were the case, it didn't do a particularly great job at those:

Show
The first encounter is on an earthmote, but it's fundamentally just a bit of flavor text.  There's nothing in the encounter (terrain, monster abilities) which work with the earthmote.  If the monsters had an ability to push PCs towards the edge, or if the terrain near the edges of the earthmote were slippery, or something, *then* it might have been interesting.

The NPC who hires the PCs is a genasi, but, other than the word "genasi" in her description, the fact that she (and her missing brother) are genasi has no impact whatsoever on the module.

I think it is an area for WDs to improve upon. AKAN1-7 could have done a better job of describing the setting... I mean, this should be jaw-dropping stuff for any PCs new to the region. The descriptions or at least the info for the DM should capture that. AKAN1-2 probably does the best job of capturing the genasi and visual flavor.

I would highly suggest that any regional adventure come with an appendix page similar to the ones we used for SPEC2-1s and Elturgard. Give the PCs a handout for the region, using the FRCG and FRPG and modifying to be specific to the adventure.

Small nit to pick here - I'm not sure why we're all ganging up on Akanul.  Airspur can be a very appealing place to set an adventure, but Akanul is more than just Airspur.  I don't see a problem with AKAN 1-7 and exploring a jungle.  AKAN 1-1 was pretty weak since it WAS the first opportunity to explore the region.

I talked about it in my review of the mod.

spoiler for the starting location of AKAN1-7:

However, the start had a bit that really surprised me, though it has been a problem with Akanul 1-1 as well. Here is one of the most amazing places in the Realms... you have a gigantic earth mote bearing a city floating in the air, with waterfalls coming off of it and creating a huge area of water. In the center of this water and under the earth mote is the place where this mod starts. And yet, the adventure misses the opportunity to set that amazing backdrop!
