Did Bald 1-1 give me an illegal item? (spoiler..of an odd item and the fact it shouldn't exist)

Mar 10, 2010 19:21:00 Ok first..I have done searches..I found no mention of this...and when I went between adventure discussions and the catchall LFR forums..this one seemed the more likely place to come in.

Now my issue.

I have an item on a bard of mine, a Wand of Etherial Stride +1, I rechecked the mod just to make sure and this is the prize it gives out. I recently wanted to find out what in blazes the price of it was for if I chose to sell it at a later date. Now if you check the players handbook on page 242 you'll see it has a listing for the level of wands, based on what power is inside. This wand in particular should be a level 8 item (Etherial Stride is a level 2 Warlord Encounter Utility). But then we hit upon the other problem...Level 5 is the cuttoff point for +1 enhancements, as per page 225 in the players handbook, where it gives specific mention that the enhancement bonus of the item is based solely on the items level.

So then this brings me to my issue...I have a +1 wand...that because its +1 should be between levels 1-5, but ontop of that it has a property that the exact same book says should be a level 8 item, meaning I should have a +2 item.

So..how should I be handling this item? Do I use/treat it as a level 8 item? So my character must be within 4 levels of level 8 to use it (he is so moot point), even though, should I treat it as a lower level item since it has a +1 enchant (say level 5).

This should especially come in for whenever I may attempt to sell this item. Should I sell it as a level 8 item..even though its full powerlevel indicates its a lower level item (and should be sold as such).

I think right now I'll be treating it as a level 8 for all intents beside the +1 (including for selling) but..I'd like to see something a touch official on this...as well as warn others of this oddity...and give authors something to watch out for.

Mar 10, 2010 19:30:59 It _should_ be a +2 wand, but it's been typo-ed in the adventure forever, and I don't expect it to change.

Mar 11, 2010 6:45:53 I agree with Keithric. It is probably a typo. The mod, for a number of reasons, is probably not getting corrected. You should treat it as a level 8, +2 wand all the way. It brings it in line with the +2 Vicious and +2 Pactblade available at high.

Mar 11, 2010 8:53:39 There's a couple instances of items like this. I've always gone with what the item should be, not what the (likely typo in the) adventure has printed.

Mar 19, 2010 10:42:23 Way back when that adventure was still new, one of the Global Admins (Shawn Merwin, I believe) stated that the item listing was in error, that it should be treated as a +2 wand, and that they would try to get it fixed. It seems that getting published mods changed is really difficult, and it never got fixed.
